OFFICIAL Jarome Luai - #295

It is a bit ot an old media favourite that when a player announces he is leaving the Tigers mid season .. apparently it’s something that will “upset” the other players and lead to a few others considering leaving with him …I don’t see this narrative replicated at other clubs when someone leaves them or announces they are leaving mid season

It’s interesting that when he announced earlier he was leaving at the end of next year …most of the other big names couldn’t extend quick enough ..including his supposed best mate Turuva … now apparently others are gunna consider leaving because he is leaving a year early,,,,make it make sense..

I know we shouldn’t continually bag players but when you’re on 1.2M a year a little bit of leeway can be given.

Luai should have nailed that game on the weekend.

Is anyone a bit suss on his passing game, that’s bread and butter for a good 5/8

Am I imagining things or is it rare to see Luai throw a good ball, cutout, double pump or draw players in to create an overlap

He has lots going for him but I worry about his passing game….too harsh?

This was posted back in March, plenty of blow back and not much agreement as well.......funny how things change.

Im just curious though, i know the players are towing the company line thats theyre fine with him cause its just business, i know Benji and the club are towing the company line that its all business. I just cant help but think that either the relationship with the players or more so with Benji has soured since Jerome signed wirh P.N.G. Hence why the club are just cutting him loose now. Anyone else think thats a possability?

Nar we've signed the May brothers and Bulla with the money from his 4th an 5th year contract might as well move him on and sign the Fainu brothers with some of his money from his 3rd year contract and open the door for the young lads . easy decision based on player retention and opening the door for others especially the form he's been in ... He's been very average . IMO
😉

Now that the png deal & release are settled maybe JL can go into penrith mode for the remainder of the season & help us with our slim mathematical chance of making the 8 that's on life support before he leaves
If we can miraculously make the 8 we can then say that in his short stint at the tiges he saved us from the spoon in his 1st year & helped us to make the finals in his 2nd & he will then leave the club as a batman or robin or whatever he wants to call himself
🦇
Seeing the dolphins getting pumped then the dogs will be without critta has given me slim hope again..

Did the relationship sour , or was it that obviously once the PNG decision was made the club had to change tact and who they were building around . Because really him leaving 1-2 years earlier than expected totally changed the way the club moved forward .
I mean even right down to play styles . Luai is a jack in the box , use his feet type to create indecision in the line . Latu is a power runner , who uses his very wyick over first 10 to push through and then has silky hands to get ball moving . And Javon has amazing vision and deception when there’s options through runners - nearly always taking the tight option .
You go from a team who is all about using footwork and second phase to create indecision and having guys capitalising that to a team who uses smart play and making the right choices to expose defences .
I’ve always preferred the latter , really like most of the nrl, as it’s more reliable , but if you don’t have guys with great vision it can be an exercise in futility . Whereas a system built around Romeys style can die a slow death if you can’t get guys biting and moving out of position .
The clubs was around Romey and his style . And with how ineffective it’s been this year , I think rightfully the club has made the decision to move on and I’m assuming the gameplan will change with it .
It’s not personal and if Romey is taking it that way , then he needs his head read .
Because how do you convince really 2 grades of fulltime/ part time football players to play a certain style built around a player who isn’t gonna be there for them long term .
and from a trust / loyalty perspective - Romey deciding to not take up his options , broke the social contract between club and player . No one begrudges him , but immediately by doing what he did he voided any claim for loyalty IMO. Ie. the club had every right to pivot away from the Jahrome luai show as soon as possible . Does it inconvenience Jahrome . I’m sure it does .
But he needs to see that the whole club was built around him … and now the club has to build around its future sooner than desired re. Heyward , Latu , Javon and Bula .

I don't know why people have made Luai into a villain in this scenario.

He was off contract so he chose to negotiate with PNG, we have every right to ask him to leave and he could have dug his heels in and said no I'm going to stay here.

All communications from all reports have been open. The Tigers statement thanks him for putting team first.

I think it's all quite civil and even if its not, we as fans should take responsibility in thanking players for their service.

As a club, we can't have any more messy break ups. Legally, ethically, all parties have behaved well and let's see out the year, thank him for his services and move on..

Voss just stated ,Luai has walked away ,if that counts as anything/rumour confirmed?
Did he walkaway now prior to the end of the season? These sensationalist headlines are so misleading. I am of the view Luai leaving at the end of the season is the best outcome for WTs. Bringing new teams into the competition and the immediate need for success was always going to impact teams with good halves. There are simply not enough of them to go around.

I don't think he's the villain, he's a hero as far as I'm concerned to make this decision and leave.

I'm positive the Tigers would of been very happy that he decided to leave, and most of the players as well.

Even though you like a bloke off the field it's what goes down on the field that counts and these guys were probably looking at him, thinking, "1.2m really?"

Not sure if 5/8s should have this style of play.

They need to be able to throw good balls, it's the bread and butter of a good 5/8.

And they need to run hard and straight to attract players to them, maybe with a step if they have the whole package, not jump around like a flea.

Can we consider the bloke a human for a moment.

I think he came here with the best intentions.

When the boardroom drama reared its head again, chammas pounced.

We have to remember he has 4 kids and lives in sydney. So the offer was probably too good to refuse.

Benji even said that Jarome was emotional about making it.

Its also been reported here that he was actually in tears last night after the game.

I've also been told he was genuinely shocked and upset when the club told him he was free to leave.

We should be grateful for what he has done to help start the change process here. The club owes him nothing, because they paid him well. He owes us nothing either.

Its a business.

But at a human level, I think he is genuinely upset the club asked him to move on... And he was a good enough bloke to say yes for the betterment of the club (when he could have dug his heels in and taken the $1.2m).

He said some stupid shit. But he's a rugby league player in his 20s. Its part of the parcel.
Hang on i'll get the violins

Well his ego is obviously quite large.

How can he be surprised considering his form, does he think that he's worth more than what the Tigers have in stall for his wage.

And he decided to leave, it was him who through the first stone.

Fairdinkum?

Yea - and supposedly under the NRL rules the Chiefs had nothing to do with sourcing those TPAs - i'm amazed other clubs aren't blowing up over this.

Ive read that Prime Minster Marape is giving multi national companies operating in PNG some “encouragement” to offer players TPAs …not sure that’s happened with Luai now ..but players that go there are going to make bank … the clubs might complain but I think the horse has already bolted

It’s a good post.
Let’s hope it plays out this way .

I believe Jerome leaving will be a good thing for the Tigers as we can invest in our future with Fainu and Andrew’s, who can form a good combination for many years to come. Jerome brought plenty of attention to the club mostly positive with sponsorship and corporate dollars as well as seeing him cash in with deals like Binge and Soul Origin linked to the Tigers brand.

I was not a fan of his prior to coming here and once he is gone he will be back to being an opponent of the Tigers. I think his decision is different to the Galvin scenario from last year whereby he bagged the club and coach and Luai if you believe may have done an honourable thing in leaving when he could have dug his heals in and taken the contract that would have hurt the future of the Tigers.

It is a shame how it has played out and the last few months of football was there for him to take the lead given our injuries and he was not up to it.

Hope we can knuckle down and finish the year strong as the first 2 months of the season was the happiest I have been following this team for 15 years and to see it become a pile of garbage the last 10 weeks is disappointing.

Ps if he goes to Parramatta I will have 1 more reason to hate Parramatta and the Dogs.

Go the Tigers

Haven't read every post but every 3rd post here or FB is about making him look bad, saying he said he'd be here forever, him playing shit etc.

If most people don't feel that way, I take back what I've said.

Yeh guys like Jarome, Richo, PVL etc are not my cup of tea. I'm not a fan of outspoken, talk big type of people. But they're in positions that I'll never be in so maybe you need to have that big talking personality.
