OFFICIAL Jarome Luai - #295

While I think Benji has made some mistakes either bench rotation and some selections this year, I think 🤔 he has had such a horrid run of injuries to try to overcome combined with some poor depth and also some players and leaders he took a punt on letting him down at the most crucial of times.. players lost form when he backed them and also -layers playing with injury out of necessity and desperation meab% that we had very little strike out wide so could not really provide any attacking threat.. his consistency in working on a defensive culture is very impressive in that he is sticking to it under pressure and I really believe his squad is coming together and the rewards will come in the next couple of seasons.. imo Benji is learning on the job , and quickly
Good point re defensive culture

Our first 7 games we conceded on avg 18pg...the defence was great (for us anyway).....maybe next year we can do it for half a season.
Look.out 2029

There’s one guy who comes out of all these dramas looking like a million bucks, and that’s Api. Given the way he’s carried this team the last 3 years, the blood, sweat and tears he has expended, if there was one player you could excuse for saying “F this. I’m out,” it’s him. Maybe he’s a masochist. Poor bastard.
The Saints game really proved Api's value.

Api leaves the field. Team collapses.

Honestly Api is the one player we can pretty much agree on was a godsend.

As far as I’m concerned, he has stolen millions from our cap.
That tap has been turned off and I’m happy Benji stood up for the club.
That’s a boss move. Maybe there’s hope for him yet.

I don't understand how you can say stolen it's a very hard line

I find it the clubs fault and Benji's fault

If your a handyman and making $70 an hour and the guy across they street offers you $140 an hour and you take the job we all know it's for the money and if you let the guy know that your working from month to month and can leave at the end of any month and you agreed to it

The fault is on you

Something is only worth what your willing to pay that's it case closed

This honestly sounds like Benji had a dummy spit after Jerome took the PNG offer

The only thing that I am interested in is that Jerome told Benji behind closed doors about sticking out the full contact

I agree with this . But what baffles me is the guy who’s been paid the premium and still has all the leverage , has zero ground to stand on when the client decides they no longer want to apart of the arrangement . Especially after you’ve gone ahead and said , yea I’m out for even more money in 18months . Like I said earlier the social contract was already broken by Jahrome. What kind of mental gymnastics does your mind need to pull to reframe the scenario as you’re the victim .
I’m not anti Romey . He did what I would have done and looked after himself and his family . But the moment you do that , all goodwill is lost . Because as I said the social contract is yes tigers are paying you 300-400k overs , but both parties are now all in together . For better or worse. … and like I said he broke that contract . Because I’m sure the unspoken truth was the get out clauses were tokenism….. until they weren’t.

That's why I think Benji has the Sh!ts

I think Jerome led Benji to believe he was all in for the full contract

Personally, i will miss him especially all the different spellings of his name during the season.

Yeah and all the poor bastard has to show for it is 2 wooden spoons, a 13th place and quite possibly a slip down to 2nd last place this season. Bet he’s happy he left Penrith!

This was posted back in March, plenty of blow back and not much agreement as well.......funny how things change.
Yeah I never really noticed it until the Warriors game. Makasini was in a huge gap, all he had to do was throw a solid, flat pass onto his chest and it was try time. He over complicated it and threw a floaty pass in front, and the opportunity was botched.

Im just curious though, i know the players are towing the company line thats theyre fine with him cause its just business, i know Benji and the club are towing the company line that its all business. I just cant help but think that either the relationship with the players or more so with Benji has soured since Jerome signed wirh P.N.G. Hence why the club are just cutting him loose now. Anyone else think thats a possability?
Who knows behind closed doors I’m speculating it’s gone south since he floated the idea of leaving 2027. Tigers allowed him to negotiate with png as a gesture of goodwill and he’s like the rat, jumping off a sinking ship. Also if Benjis word is true, the leak would not be good for the relationship.

Having a player stick around for 2 years knowing he's signed elsewhere is a bit weird.

The Captain has bailed after all his team first chat...how could anyone take him seriously from now? Naturally the team would question his commitment.

The rest of his sideshow with instagram posts etc. Is just part of the nonsense we have to tolerate until he leaves.

Penrith didn't make him an offer they had no money and he was off to Canterbury for $450K we came in at the 13 hour we a very big offer and he came for the money

API was seen as an old spent force that you had to squeeze the last drop out of

Penrith offered him $850k as reported here

Canterbury fought them right up until the death think they were around a $1m.

What I can’t understand is that there are heaps of players running around the comp, who have signed on with other clubs well in advance. Somehow they are able to continue to amicably play with their current team until their contract runs out without any dramas, but when it happens with our mob it always turns into a shit fight, media circus, derailing of our season soap opera!! Why?

Even Luai himself signed with us 18 months before his time with Penrith expired, but there was no issues there. He played well, the team continued to play well, there was no disharmony or ill feeling - they won the Premiership for crying out loud!
There was just that short period of time when WT was not a bun fight of disharmony and media leaks. Gosh. What could have changed? And more importantly, what stayed the same? 🤔🤔🤔

I dunno Suzie Q, if you mean Richo, he was here during all the Galvin saga last year. I don’t know if it’s ever been any different, no matter who’s in charge.

Richo, independent board, no media leaks. Since that all got flushed down the toilet, we are back to the same old same old we've had for years. It was nice to have that little bit of respite ftom being the drama club, but it's made going back there feel worse.
