Adam Doueihi #227

A forum member last night stated that Doueihi had done more than enough to hold his position in the team. I cannot disagree with this and while I support Marshall as coach, I do find his selection at 13 puzzling especially with what I consider to be the added defensive workload and carrying a shoulder injury.
Our last month of footy has been a return to wooden spoon form, at a time we were in a finals race.

The relegation of the halfback in these circumstances is pretty common.

I personally don't think that is the case, but we are all entitled to our opinions. Benji has given him foour weeks post recovery to deliver so he has shown plenty of patience with him. I have wathced AD pretty closely over the four weeks and I'm not so sure that physically the shoulder is what is holding him back. His big defensive misses aren't related to him not being able to hit with his shoulder, they are related to his poor lateral movement. He is simply a big body that an't physically respond as quick as his opposition can move/change pace/step and he is being targetted in defence. He may need to be needled up to take the pain out of contact at 13 but the lateral movement issue is pretty well taken care of given the nature of the players in the middle corridor and the closer spacing of the supporting defence.

If what mole says is true ……

This is the shit I have been concerned about with having the may and fainu bros. Not saying this has to do anything with them , it’s this clique culture. Piss one of the bros or someone in the clieque you have divided team or players dictating
I'm just trying to think whose Douehis 2 friends are - certainly wouldn't be the edge players outside him saying he needs to play half. Also Douehi doesn't come across as being part of the bro clan. So i'm guessing its Bula and Seyfarth. This sought of crap coming out with quotes without names attached smacks from straight out of the Isaac Moses playbook.

What is the main issue in your view?
Our captain has made a decision to leave. I have no issue with that but the announcement should have occurred at the conclusion of the season. It has impacted team performance.

I am pleased the club is introducing Andrews and congratulate him on his selection. Luai should be the player imo to move aside, perhaps to the bench, to accommodate him. He is not going to be at WTs next year so it is a good chance to see how a new combination works.

Doueihi is one of our best and a local junior. He wears his heart on his sleeve, just like a few other of our past and present players. No NRL player is a sook, and while I don't agree with his action, I understand where it comes from. I hope he plays.

Our recruiters will be very busy with a big shopping list.
Hope there are enough dollars to get some good ones.
We need quite a few and a spare half.
The recruiters could have a ten million pot of gold to spend but will struggle to entice players to a club that produces more drama than Hollywood. The other thing there is very little talent in the market place at present

I don’t know for a fact and haven’t got Douehi on my contact list if that’s what you are asking, but based on attending a lunch where a portion of the playing group were present last year and snippets of information I had heard before that, today’s events come as no surprise.
What did you hear?

Maybe, just maybe Benji has decided Javon Andrews is best fit to debut with Luai as his halves partner? The players that’s been and done it all?

Say what you want about Luai but he’s been on record plenty of times saying he doesn’t want to get in the road of these kids coming through. I think it’s been obvious plenty of times on the field this year he’s taken a backwards step to accommodate Doueihi and it just hasn’t quite worked in the halves.

I have no doubt Andrews will shine better without Doueihi overcalling a rookie all game. I think the decision is based on making Javon Andrews having a smoother transition into first grade

Thanks for the detailed reply. I belleve Doueihi may be playing injured. Wasn't it his shoulder?
Yes, 100% and he would be carrying it regadless if he was ar centre, where you wanted him selected in place of Herbert, or off the pine playing at lock where he has more influence on our attack and allows Twal to reinforce the prop rotation. The player, the performace staff and the coaching staff all believe he was fit enough to play. So the shoulder is irrelevant to the discussion ofwhat postion the coaching staff think is inthe best interests of the team. None of us armchair coaches have the clipboard or the inside knowledge to make decisions; but in the minds of those with the knowledge AD off the pine into the 13 rotation was the best option for the team. We can only judge the quality of that call after the game has been played - unfortunately now we don't have that hindsight opportunity.

The decision to not play was him, btw. He still has a spot in the team lol

I won't change your opinion on a footballing forum but I will add Doueihi imo offers alot more to the team as a centre than Herbert. He's one of the quickest in our team over 100m, as well as bringing height and size to the backline.

I can't see a way back unless Adam comes out and mentions its purely his competitive nature and won't do it again. If he does that, then benji can probably pick him in half next week. But benji can't do that without that public acknowledgement from Adam now - otherwise it looks like he caved

A week off was a poor, poor option.
He already has runs on the board in relation to his self centred playing demands. Don't think this leopard will change his spots.

Great Call!

I don't disagree with any of the points you have raised - but it is all opinion. If you recall my call would also have been AD to centre. If you step back and look at it objectively, which is what I have tired to do, you can see why Benji probably chose to make the clal he did.

AD is one of my favourite players but if the team's leadership group has any backbone, they'll be standing up at training this morning and telling the rest of the playing group that AD is gone and for anyone who supports him to stand up and make themselves known.

But to be honest, it might ring a bit hollow if Luai is part of that group?
There are supposedly 2 players loyal to Doueihi’s demand to be halfback, while the Benji camp are at least 7, those who threatened to leave if Benji was sacked.
I don’t know what Sheensy is doing right now but I reckon he maybe having a little chuckle to himself.

Benji wanted to play with 3 halves. AD would've been defending as a 7. There was to be absolutely no change in his workload.
It was purely an ego driven decision by Adam to abandon his mates.
As a senior member of the team I just find the example that sets to be unforgivable. To disrupt the squad close to a game that could keep the season alive is far worse than anything Galvin ever did.

I don't want to see him wearing the team colours again.

I have lost all respect for him.

This saga has probably been brewing for weeks. Ad’s defensive efforts of late have been similar to Mitch Moses’s tanking effort to get a release a few years back. I guess the one common denominator is , they both have the same guy giving them advise.

Anyway Iam sure there is two sides to this drama, but sadly no winners
Maybe the club is the winner. Prior to Benji / Richo, we really struggled to move on from players, seems Benji can be a bit more ruthless. This is pro sports.

I thought the plan was for him to defend in his normal position and play as an attacking lock. I don’t think anyone can deny he’s been good this year, particularly at the start of the season, but he’s not a classic halfback. He may have been wearing 7 but he creates danger because he’s a biggish body with mobility and speed. He’s hardly going to double pump and throw a 20m bullet.

Interesting isn't it, the club relies on circling the wagons with a fortress mentality; the team pulling together as a cohesive unit to make up for our lack of depth and top talent across the park. The players responded in the early to mid-rounds and then it all came apart. We need Doueihi to at least be competitive against the Raiders.
Respectfully disagree, AD was in the side that lost to dragons, warriors and dogs. What we need is every player to play the best they can in the position they are asked to play.
