Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Talent identification is poor. But also developing players from those late teenage years onwards into better players is also poor.
I agree with that, but what is the reason behind it ?
Many love to say lack of funding.
I don’t believe that reason be true, but even if it is true, you can have all the staff and resources you want, but unlimately the head coach which in our case is currently Benji has to make time and have a clear progression plan including confirming things each player is doing well and constantly communicating things they are needing to improve on.
I understand it’s a big job and too much for one person to take on, but the head coach has to be across it and be very aware of each emerging players strengths, weaknesses, progression and what if any assistance is required.
I have a feeling Benji does not take enough interest in this side of things.

BA is not the greatest coach around but he can take a team to finals footy.

Doesn't he currently have Leeds at the top of Super league? Some say the game has passed him by, not sure why that would be the case. If anything I would expect him to be a much better coach now than he ever has. A little time away to take stock of the good and bad he did at Parra, and now a new coaching role having great success. Experience at a struggling club and dysfunctional board drama. Was well liked by his players. He actually ticks a lot of boxes

You must be a new fan, welcome aboard. Just letting you know Wests Tigers players have been dopey and boneheaded for 15 years. But yeah, sure, it must be the ethnic background of this particular group that is the problem.

Should be a quick fix!
No, no, no. In the interests of fairness, Matt Burton is way dumber than anyone we have. A card carrying member of the flat earth society who is still trying to prove that what goes up doesn't have to come down.

Who are these coaches that took time away and came back with success?

Be interested to compare that too the success coaches with lower grade apprenticeships and then sustained success go. My guess is on balance they do better.

interesting narrative on a few media outlets still supporting benji with "there is no one else"

instant improvements
- brad arthur
- ben teo
- michael dobson
- Joe O’Callaghan
- sam burgess
- matt ballin

two hills ill die on (i know i have had a few bum leads)

- samuela is done
- benji will be gone by round 8 at the latest
Benji gone by round 8…??….even if he has a better than 50% record after 8 rounds…?.?….interesting and why would they do it?

If they want him gone why wait till round 8, sack him at years end……

It’s more about keeping our good ones.
Plenty of rival clubs love our juniors, we need to starting loving them just as much and keeping the pick of the bunch all the way through to NRL level.
In hindsight losing Galvin, Da Silva and letting Cooper Clarke slip through our hands have all been massive blunders.
You cannot come out and say we’re a Development Club and either not identify or let our best juniors go elsewhere.
We did nothing to develop Cooper. Galvin is still a nobody. TDS has scored a few tries but is a bench player.

Yes our recruitment and retention is appalling. We've been targeting the wrong players for a long time. And we still are.

No one with X factor, the speed skill or power to make a difference. Just a team full of average players who generally, toil hard.

We are not a development club. We have never been a development club. Maybe If HBG starting contributing an extra 5 million a year we might start becoming one soon.

phoenix and max both into the top 30, absolute min contracts

aware we are sniffing around kurt mann, but i had also heard that a while back, thing that doesnt happen due to the brailey signing

schuester impressing club officials, believe he will be on a t&t nextyear
Well that's all just terrible news. Further grounds for the instant dismissal of the entire football department. Neither Phoenix nor Max are remotely close to NSW cup level currently. It would be an extreme insult to promote them when they've done nothing but have very mediocre and underwhelming seasons in flegg.

In order to get a top 30 deal you must, at a minimum, demonstrate a high skill level and consistent performances in Cup. They have not. Phoenix was on a development contract which was more than sufficient. Max wouldn't even be in the top 10 young backs at the club.

And we don't have enough spaces in our top 30 to waste on posters who are still 2-3 years away from competing for a NRL spot.

We can only hope that somehow both are only on train and trials.

We need to spend some of that extra 5 million on better glasses for everyone involved in selecting our top 30, Development and Train & Trial players.

But there is no need to rush Phoenix or Max they need time and more experience before been rushed.
Which is why they shouldn't be on top 30 contracts!!! Our backline is full now, and it's by far the worst in the comp. Herbert, Tupou, Taotua, Tavana are all not first grade standard. Turuva would be a backup player.

That leaves us with only May, Averillo and Makasini as first grade standard outside backs and a whole heap of emergency backups.

We somehow need to find a first grade winger, someone tall and fast to go with Makasini on the left wing. Possibly Bula if he can find some pace from somewhere.
