Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Luke Brooks is named in our NRL squad for next year, the number currently standing at 28.

Here is the exact wording from Wests Tigers "Currently, Wests Tigers have 28 players SIGNED in the Top 30 squad for season 2019, with the full squad to return to pre-season training on November 15."

Given that they say these players are SIGNED, I wouldn't worry too much. I'll just wait for Maguire to start for the announcement.

What are you talking about?

Only need to have 24 signed ATM 29 by March 1 and TOP 30 squad finalised by June 30 2019 according to NRL protocols..I'd say full squad they mean the 28 contracted players + development players +those from ISP and Flegg who train with the NRL Squad over summer..

so 2 spots left

The speculation is about 2020 as since Nov 1 any player who comes off contract at the end of next year is free to negotiate with any club

In your 80 years or so of supporting Balmain/ Wests/Wests Tigers have we ever had a great, and I emphasise great 1/2 back? Tommy R and G Freeman were good…... tough as nails, but Brooks has the ability to top them both by a long stretch. I think your figure is a starting figure, that needs to be increased substantially by year 3\. He could very well be NSW 7 in 2020 and beyond given his age and predicted improvement.

Keith Holman says hi

Pat Devery, Dave Bolton, Shaun Edwards, Laurie Fagan, Mick Neil, Greg Oliphant + a few more that also say Hi!

Pat Devery? Dont remember him. You must be older than me Russell?

I remember Laurie Fagan.

Just throwing it out there!

If brooks left and hope he doesn’t just for the record.
But if he did, with all the talk around about good halves options are in shortage. Would it be worth throwing a bone to some young half on the cusp of first grade and seeing how he goes with Reynolds and Marshall?
The young Penrith bloke Luliai or Gamble maybe even Drinkwatwer from Melbourne if he hasn’t signed already.

Maybe it’s time to sit and wait for the right bloke and give a well regarded young player a season.

Again just an idea.
Be kind👍

If Brooks left I think wed be lucky to nab Luai…but wed have to do something like youd suggest

For all those talking up Shaun Johnson, ask yourself why he isnt linked to the chooks?

He has been, repeatedly. For example [https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.zerotackle.com/johnson-to-the-roosters-37628/amp/%3futm_source=Facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=Zero%2520Tackle](https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.zerotackle.com/johnson-to-the-roosters-37628/amp/%3Futm_source=Facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=Zero%2520Tackle)

It's far more profitable to write articles saying the chooks are interested in Brooks, than someone like Johnson. Almost every Tigers fan with an internet connection will read whatever rubbish is written.

Agree. Liked what I saw of Luliai and especially Drinkwater.

I know we have a fullback but wow Matt Dufty seems to be available and that kid is a future superstar!

Mybe or Dufty at 6 possibly?

Just a suggestion - the kid is a freak imo

The Dragons mustnt think so.

Mbye tried 6 and failed. He looks great at fullback so I wouldn't move him.

Dufty has pace but not much else. Absolutely no ball playing ability.

If we lose Brooks ….. he may be tried at half and could prove effective.

What makes you think he'd be any good? They tried for years at the Dogs to make him a half and he was average as hell. Moved him to fullback and his first season he looked much more dangerous.

I just don't get it to be honest. If we lose Brooks I'd still keep him at 1\. Better to have one great spine player than two average ones.
