CEO - Shane Richardson

I was a member for years. Haven't renewed for seven or eight seasons now and I don't feel the slightest bit guilty over it.

Incompetent administration were taking the fanbase for a ride, I understand any WT fans reluctance to not part with their money.

Lastly, you missed my other point. If a fan has the money to choose between a non ticketed membership or going to a game that season or buying a jersey, why are they looked down upon when they are still financially contributing? Bagging fans for not committing when the club has been an absolute shitshow for over a decade is tone deaf.
Yes but u wine about change, they give u the change u wanted eg. Got rid of Pascoe, the board, fedora, etc. still u don’t want to pay up. Typical.
In regards to your jersey buying thing yes u can be a supporter but unless your a paying member your opinions don’t really count. There’s heaps of clubs over the ages that have been terrible for decades at a time the roosters were shocking during the 80’s souths when they got kicked out were dreadful but they have 30,000 members we have 7,000! If your a true supporter u back them rain, hail or shine. No excuses.

I understand but a min membership without tickets is $75 and if you go to some games and get some merchandise as you say then it would pay for itself in the discounts.

He didn't say fans wernt important just that members are stakeholders. I'm in full agreement with him

Didn’t get membership last year. I’ve had membership on and off. Generally the smaller memberships with 4 games Which I find reasonably priced. I have never talk to a COE before.

I am very upset by people who call themselves die hard fans that don’t contribute to the club. I think it’s great that the CEO pointed out that despite a huge market share we actually have very few fans that financially contribute to the club. Getting tickets, paying for Kayo/foxtel and buying merchandise are just you paying for entertainment. Membership is a commitment to the wider financially security for the club and is the best way a supporter to engage in helping the club move forward. Love the Richo had enough gumption to call out the “huge supporters” of the club that don’t contribute in anyway but complain and moan on the internet.

I am Brisbane, pay full membership every year and donate the tickets to a group 6 rugby league club for a raffle every year. As another poster said a $100 for a one of the reduced membership options is not a big commitment. Just buy two less cartons of piss or a few less Uber eats delivery’s and you are there.

Get off your bloody high horse.

I have just watched Shane Richardson on behind the roar and and as loyal Balmain and now West's Tiger's supporter very disappointed and upset to hear him say if he sees a supporter and they want to ask him a question he won't talk to them unless they are a paid member. Not all of us have the money to pay for membership but still try and go to some games and still support the Tiger's and watch the games on TV because i work shift work and buy merchandise when we can.
You're kidding yourself. We've finally got a decent CEO, and you complain about that. He's basically trying to turn fans into members (which benefits the club).

Do you honestly think that if you talked to him, he'd ask to see your membership before he responded?

Give me a break

Be grateful for what we've got, it's been years in the making

People can agree he's good for the club and still point out when he's wrong about something.
He's not a political leader, you don't have to be all in on everything he says.
In this instance he's very very wrong and runs the risk of alienating supporters who DO financially support the club through ticket sales and merch.
Let's not all mindlessly bow down like he's the Bhaghwan Sree Rajneesh. He's good for the club but he'll get things wrong like the rest of us.

The poster you are responding to has said they can’t afford membership, yet still go to the odd game and buy merch occasionally. That is contributing and is not deserving of the CEO calling him/her out.
I can understand Shane’s hopes that memberships increase but he needs to understand that it is due to the fans that this club still exists. 24 years of embarrassment, ridicule, incompetence and greed both on and off the field has led to our low membership numbers, yet we still turn up in droves to attend live games, boost radio and tv figures and purchase club released merchandise.
If he wants to turn this into high membership tallies….win some fckn games of football!

Blind faith starts wars mate. The comparison with Souths is like comparing a banana with a pineapple. South’s members get to vote because they own 25% with Black Court the other 75%.
Membership at Tigers entitles you to a scarf, cap and flag.
Thats why we have only 7,000 ‘members.’

Really impressed by your loyalty to the club and agree that membership is possible with a bit of sacrifice of stuff. I also agree with Richardson on his seemingly hardline stance on only talking to members, but...

I just also think a bit of perspective and sympathy also helps. There are plenty of people out there who are well past buying uber eats and cutting out beer who continue to struggle. Maybe they're sloppy with money elsewhere or could do better with their finances, but they're probably just poor people with limited money trying to do their best. And, if they have kids, they probably really wish they could afford to have club membership but use those dollars towards buying their kids footy boots or something of the like. Membership in that situation can be seen as a selfish indulgence.

The op mentioned that he goes to some games and buys some merchandise. I suppose he could cut out going to a match or not buy a team polo or something like that, but I understand why he's buying merchandise and going to the game instead.

Again, people should be members if they're fans, but I think for many people the luxuries you list are not a part of their budget anymore and being 'very upset' about fans not being members probably misses the complexities that many of our fans experience.

I've paid for memberships for the last 9 years in a row, for myself and various family members during that period. I've also held the odd membership prior to that.

I have not renewed my membership for this season yet and probably won't.

I just feel like I need a break from the bungling and incompetence that has surrounded membership renewal in the past and what I had suspected was a membership numbers rort, which has now finally been exposed.

Not saying that I'm not happy with the direction the club seems to be heading in and the things that Richo is saying, it's just that I feel like I need a break from it to have a look from the outside to see what happens before I recommit financially.

Not saying that I won't go to the odd game here and there or that I won't be buying any merchandise but doesn't that still mean that I am supporting the club financially even if it is only in a small way.

Let's face it, as things currently stand, without any voting rights we are still only ticket holders just like anyone else that pays their money to Ticketek to go to a game.

Good on the guys for getting the petition going that finally brought about this change when so many treated it as a joke believing it was a complete waste of time and that nothing would come of it, but if we could be real members with voting rights we could have had the power to bring about change long before this.

Firstly welcome to the forum.

I was fully supporte of every thing said except the above statement

As a member myself, if I saw him actually say that to someone, I’d probably tell him the club can shove my membership up their arse. I like Richo, but that is spitting in the face of people who love the club. Basically your lifetime of devotion carries no value you to them unless you compensate them monetarily.

Devotion matters, but it doesn't give you any grounds to question the CEO. That's all. He's working for members. Just like shareholders.

Tucker talks about getting off high horses. But I think it works both ways. Who thinks they have the right to be upset at a CEO without buying the service.

There are 400,000 Tigers fans, but only 7,000 of them buy club membership. What is that telling us? Solar panel phone hawkers have a better strike rate, so rather than alienate 393,000 fans, why not revisit the product they’re trying to sell?
This message is the same one espoused by Pascoe and Hagipantelis, so it must be coming from HBG.

It’s one of the main reasons I disliked Lee. It’s such an elitist thing to say. I really don’t want to
go down the road of disliking Richo, cos he’s a great administrator, but God damn, comments like that aren’t on.

Hope they’re getting a decent return on their debentures. The rest of us working class are giving most of our money to Woolworths.
