LIVE GAME Trial 2 vs. Dragons

Live Game Discussion
What has Simpkin got to do with the end result ?
By the time he come on we were getting flogged.
He didn’t miss a tackle, he got out of dummy half and got our forwards on the front foot, we looked better in attack while he was on the field and won on the scoreboard while he was on the field.
If you watched him bumble around without a clue last night, getting caught with the ball while procrastinating, even giving the "I don't know what to do next" signal with his hands, then I don't know what to tell you.
He's bad.
Really really bad.
Not Michael Jackson bad.
Just bad.
Really really bad.

I thought Saints went ok against Souths in the 1st half last week , they brought that to the table against us and bashed us
Weak spine which will bite them in the ass eventually but Flanagan will get the most out of them. Sua and Sulli looking good.

I agree, but 50 tackles in the red zone is about average for most teams. Yes, our attack was poor tonight, but my concern is the silly mistakes that we make and how quickly we leak points.

We literally self-destruct when the going gets tough.
Our completion rate was actually good by NRL standards, just gotta convert chances when they present.

He isn’t given the chance to do it.

We don’t have any setup play, blocks, decoys or depth to our backline. Papa is left flat footed often that’s not on him that’s how the team is coached - all our players do it and defensively we struggle to defend it because we aren’t running these at training.

The more I focus on the mechanics the more you can see how the structures are formed as we see the same flaws in attack as the same weaknesses in defence.
Cant disagree with you on that mate but just running hard and into holes should be bread and butter. That is a coaching issue which I agree with you.

So he’s our biggest issue ?
You must be joking surely, we looked lost for ideas and were getting belted for 50 minutes before he even came on the field.
Why don’t you look at the issues within the playing squad who played for the first 50 mins ?
At the end of the day Da Silva is a better long term option, so it’s unlikely Simpkin will be with us past this season, but he’s far from our biggest issue at the moment.

He's an issue.
I don't recall saying he's the biggest issue.
Our defence was as bad as I've ever seen it ,that's our biggest issue.
Simpkin is an issue that's been hanging around the team's neck like an albatross. It's the easiest issue to begin the repairs with.

lol the wrist cutting over a trial is hilarious ! Instead of figuring out which chair you’re going to use to neck yourself , maybe some focus on the fact that we played so crap in a trial , with zero repercussions . And now we have 3 weeks to figure out what’s wrong .
I’m not even going to get out of first gear until round 4. It’s absolutely pointless .

100%. The fact it’s across the board says to me it’s coaching. We just lack any attacking instinct it’s like we have totally forgotten that part of the game which is strange given the high turnover of our roster over the last few years.

Our attack is so bad it’s farcical.
We had an option of bringing a proper 13 in Nathan Brown back to the club on what would have been a lower tier contract, but chose not to. He would have been perfect to straighten our attack and show us the way until we found a younger better option.
We had the option to sign an intelligent tough halfback who knows how to straighten the attack in Jack Cogger, but chose to go with the much more expensive and risky combination of Sullivan and Sezer. We clearly need a fullback to at least apply pressure to Bula, we didn’t address that either.
Every other club has 3 or 4 quality proven NRL edge back row options, we chose to go with 2 and a 3rd we are developing. The younger unproven ones within our squad may or may not come good, but that’s not the point, you don’t take such an important position to chance and not have quality back up.
Almost all rival NRL clubs currently have some quality outside backs who would walk into our starting team, yet they are currently sitting on the sidelines not getting NRL opportunities due to backline depth within their club.
Nothings stopping us making moves to get these types of players to our club now ASAP before our season disintegrates again.

He plays 5/8 for Wigan, would be an extremely lightweight centre for NRL and what could he have done with the terrible quality ball our outside backs received last night ?
I realise you are probably talking about 2025 when it’s rumoured he wants return the NRL and it would be hopeful the inclusion of Luai helps create better opportunities for our outside backs.
He covers , fullback, winger , centre , 5/8 , he would be gold for us , and the boy has PACE

I hope benji has watched the slimmmy eels play today , they have a big forward pack but they don’t just send them one out they use the ball , big the bullet benji sit down and study what the better teams do and work it into ur structure, it’s not that hard

I’d take him in our squad without a question, I just think centre would be his least best position in the backline.

I'm not as sceptical about Bula but I must admit I'm not on the hype train yet.
His involvement in the game just isn't there.
I'd like to be very wrong about him.

For anybody at the game was there a feeling they were treating this as trial , or were they over confident due to the win the week before and that Dragons form was off from prior week. Sometimes we appear to take teams lightly when there is sniff we are over confident by simply turning up
We are the last team on the planet playing any sport that should be overconfident
We just don't turn up for whatever reason... They don't play for each other it seems to me like many think the other guy will do it

I'm starting to think it's the jersey.
We buy players that look fast and smart and as soon as they touch the jersey they lose 10m in pace and 50 I.Q. points.

You're a 💯genuine bloody genius BAGNF05 (y).
You've hit on the reason why we appeared to be so crap in both our games this year.
Benji has told the WHOLE TEAM "to play these trials in second gear a bit?" ....so, we don't give away our secret plays.
Wow...I'm excitedly waiting for our 1st fair dinkum game in round two.
Yuh better watch out Canberra, were coming for yuh :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:.
Unfortunately he came out and said he’ll pick the team off trial form so we’re absolutely fu$&ed hehe

I still think maybe Bula was told to keep his powder dry for the meaningful stuff. Wouldn’t be the first Ferrari to be kept in the garage in Mickey Mouse games.

His yardage was consistently good last year so strange he was MIA.
