Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

We're going to have a massive headache with who our halves are for next year and how we fit in everyone. But we should be grateful to have this headache, compared to having little halves competition in previous years. Hopefully it becomes clearer by mid season what is the way forward in utilising everyone's best position and whether anyone needs to be moved on. A long way to go in the season
Better than having no decent halves to choose from, but we are spending far too much on our halves which means we don’t have enough room in our salary cap to build a strong enough team around them.
I’ve continually stated I don’t believe Luai is worth anywhere near 1.2 million per season, but no doubt he has plenty of quality when he has the right players around him.
Playing Luai next to a legless Bateman would be a disaster.
However if we done something smart and got rid of Bateman replacing him with either Angus Crichton or David Difita, it would give us an extremely dangerous left edge that should really bring Bula into the game.

Based on what he has shown, I don’t think so.

Before the start of the year you and most (me included) didn’t think he would be a NRL starter right now & walk back in the side player after 2 week’s suspension few rounds into his career.

It’s clear Galvin isn’t a limit type player if Benji & Galvin agree he is a 13 then have zero doubts he could make it.

Right now though we need Latu / Bud to step up over the season & show consistency like Galvin to even force the need for the convo otherwise no point to move the kid or for them to move.

You’ve always got to be skeptical about an 18 year old who hasn’t debuted. Very rarely do they come into first grade at that age and make an immediate impact. So, I don’t mind acknowledging that I questioned his place in the side round 2. I can’t see him going back to Flegg or KOE though. Not now. It’s other players that are going to have to accommodate him, not the other way around.

Where has he said this? He's got size and the strength. Just needs more muscle.

Good 13s these days should get paid as well as the halves. Sutton used to play there as well as 6.

Could be a cam murray
Lol

Cam murray makes like 50 tackles a game.

You think he wants or should do that with his talent? Listen to his interviews - “I want to play 6”.

He wanted to leave bc we bought too many halves ! He wasn’t thinking great I’ll move to 13.

He’s favorite player he models himself on is Munster - a 6.

We’ve basically got Munster in jack wightons body - and everyone wants to shift him lol.

Galvin is a better ball player than Sutton and yeo and Murray - and probably if we had him in the team against the dolphins we win he’s that good.

Playing in the middle of the ruck is a waste.

I get everyone wanting to fit everyone in the team but he’ll leave

Someone will offer him the chance to play 6 for $1m a year and he’ll go.

Lucky Richo and Benji aren’t as short sighted as people here

He’ll have a longer career and earn more
Money playing in the halves than the back row. It’s a no brainer he’ll want to stay there. Given we’ve signed Luai for 5 years I suspect we’ll have to choose between Galvin and Finau at some stage, possibly for the 2026 season.

If thy choose Galvin … does that mean they lose Finau and his brother Sam ? They seem to be a package deal

I am a firm believer that Luai's best footy is outside of penrith and when Ivan hasn't been coach. I remember he had a great debut at halfback when Griffin was coach in 2018. Since then, he had a great Origin debut series in 2021 before NSW started to play Pantherised football in 2022 and 2023 to mimic Ivan's style. And then that great month of footy for Samoa in 2022 which was unprecedented and mostly his hard work. The past 3 years he's been a total ghost in that great Penrith team. Maybe it's his role and it works so why change it but he's been holding back for too long that the skills he had in 2020 may be expired by next year after habitual passenger rituals week to week. If you look at the stats, in 2020 he had 7 tries and 23 try assists (equal most). Since then, he's mostly refused to run straight and picks up the crumbs. It can be hidden in penrith's system for now, but next year it will be exposed. I hope we don't have another Brooks situation but it certainly looks like it

i kind of agree but its a 50/50.

Did you watch his kicking game on the weekend? not as good as Sezers by a long way.

I think he feels second player to the 7 and 13 at Penrith and hopefully that might bring him out of his shell more if he's our 7. He like only touches the ball maybe once a set at Penrith bc he has to stay on his side of the ruck where the 7 actually roams a bit.

if he goes no good at 7, then at least galvin can play first receiver but i think Luai will be good, might take him time like it did with shaun johson. hopefully not too long tho, otherwise we'd be better off keeping sezer there for the money lol.

Agreed, but please don't make Galvin a 7. Galvin by all accounts seems to be a 6. He wants to be on field and he wants to guide but not drive the team.

We have brought Luai as a halfback and he will need to play halfback. We saw Latu needs more time, Galvin is ready... But I don't see Galvin at 7... I don't see much of Sullivan but I want to see Sullivan and Latu fight it out for that bench spot.

We have to make solid decisions on who we are keeping and who we are offloading. Otherwise easts/Titans/whomever will pinch the players we don't want to offload.

Luai is not a kicker. Not a sharp shooter. What his role is will be experience. Who will do our kicking in 2025? Who will direct us around the park? Sezer is a good start. We have some sort of navigation.

Kicked out on the full the other night.

Luai that the Tigers will get, will be a lot different to the Penrith Luai.

Take of that what you will....

It's not good nor is it bad 😆
