HBG, Independent Directors Sacked

“The only contention that regularly arises is the fact Wests Magpies have never been respected in the joint venture and always tainted as the bad guys. An opportunity to discuss a fairer representation would go a long way in ending 25 years of war.”

Shows the paranoia of some. How much more opportunity than controlling the club does HBG need.

Yep and confirms the fighting has not stopped

Wish the nrl brought in the administrators

Notice how they mention how much money theyve tipped into the club in the past, not current day? You know why that happened?

Because they were in charge and mismanaged the place. As soon as a decent operator came in, they contributed nothing.

And as for the support of RL as the reason for the debenture holders, thats absolute BS. Others do that, more successfully i might add, without the need for that structure. Those commitments can be enshrined in a constitution and probably already are.

Honestly, I think PVL thought this would appease the fans. That this would be enough to stop the Rally.

It's not enough though and I for one will be there supporting the Wests Tigers this weekend.
I get that feeling too....nothing but a band aid solution.
Embarrasing hes kept mentioning saving balmain which is either ignorance or a curve ball the placate the general rl population

HBG need to examine the membership of their Board with a view to recruiting businessmen and women to mirror the independent membership of WTs. In that way, the club as a whole can move forward as WTs with links to the heritage of Wests and Balmain.

Given the obligation Holman Barnes has to its 20 debenture holders to propagate rugby league, it’s difficult to see the directors agreeing to a Wests Tigers board that does not have them controlling the purse strings.

Hows their propagation of league going with those directors there? Its been horrible and its about to get even worse.

Note how the article is about them? Nothing about members they are supposed to serve. Thats the way these guys think. Inward to the core. L&G needs to rectify this.

100% less than 1.5 million a year and we turned a profit.

I honestly believe they don't want us making a profit for 2 reasons.

1. They loose the ability to use the club as a tax write off.

2. They don't have any access to the profits the football club makes.

It's only about money and power for these jokers, they don't care or want a successful football club......
From a financial and legal perspective is this actually correct?

It would be the same for other NRL teams that are owned by leagues clubs though right?

I understand that, I’m just of the belief that if PVL believes this is the best way forward they will essentially have control of 90% of the NRL licence but, will have strict guidelines in regards to any decisions made and will be at the scrutiny of BOF and the other 2 independent board members.
It makes no sense to me why they would agree to return unless the odds are heavily in their favour, regardless of the board room numbers.
Basic maths will dictate

It's sad to think that the independent directors (the minority) have to meet a particular skills matrix to be considered but the other 5 directors (the majority) don't. Its laughable. As long as you can strum a couple of notes on a bass guitar I suppose.

How it ever meant to work with this

ensure the club continued to propagate rugby league, particularly the Magpies brand.
This is the crux of the issue. I remember when the podcasters interviewed one of the ousted HBG directors he mentioned this.

Essentially HBG are simply doing their job and living their company values so long as they have control of wests tigers. Without this control I suspect they believe that the brand over time will become diluted.

Unfortunately, I think the way they’ve gone about making sure this happens, may end up the thing that results in the brand ceasing to exist forever.

100 percent correct, no other leagues club acts in such a way. No other leagues club has a debenture system that protects it's board from transparency and accountability.

Our owners have just openly confirmed they are interested in promoting and furthering the magpies.

They don't give a crap about the Wests tigers they are happy to burn it to the ground. If the Wests tigers are successful they can't control it so back to being a basket case it is ....

Various iterations of the WTs' Boards and CEOs successfully negotiated the COE, the UWS COE and upgrades to both Leichhardt and Campbelltown grounds. The upgrades to Leichhardt and Campbelltown alone are worth $100m with major contributions from Federal and State Govt and $10m each from the Inner West City and Campbelltown Councils. The framework is being built for future success and kudos must go to Richardson and Pascoe. We've made remarkable strides in terms of improving facilities and Richardson had a focus towards the SW growth areas. It is very disappointing the inability of some of our leaders to adapt to change. I love Balmain and Wests but those clubs are our heritage, not future.
