Unfortunately it's worse than that, it's a victim's mentality.

He still believes Wests Magpies doesn't have a fair representation, despite majority ownership and calling the shorts, plus taking over the NSW Cup team.

And then he says "25 years of war"... really, he thinks Magpies and Balmain have always been at war and still are? Including since Balmain was bought out 11 years ago and their clubs subsumed into Wests Ashfield?

Part of me wonders if this is still all about the Tiger brand, that some old folks just can't handle that both clubs agreed the Tiger was more marketable mascot. And you could call it the Western Suburbs Lidcombe Campbelltown Tommy Raudonikis Dallas Donnelly Magpie Black & White Tigers, but they'd still rankle at having Tigers tacked on.

This is the greatest myth now around the club…it’s an enabler for the continuation of this disruption coming from HBG that keeps the club at the bottom of the ladder ..

Have Balmain said anything this year ?

V’landys said he had to intervene to protect the NRL and Wests Tigers brands.

“A licence is a privilege, a licence to be in the NRL is worth a lot of money,” V’landys said on Thursday. “Naturally, we have our rights under the licence, and we will use those rights if we have to.

Hey mate, has the new board make up 5 HBG 1 BAL 3 INDY been confirmed outside of Chammas? He’s not correct as often as he thinks he is.
I think the rally should go ahead. Nothing is set in stone so in practise nothing has changed.

Surely the only increase in representation possible is 100% ownership and removal of Balmain Tigers? They are only 1 step short of that right now with 90% ownership, Balmain granted a token seat, Wests Ashfield taking on all old Balmain assets and Magpies in the NSW Cup.

Only thing left would be to excise the Tiger.

So really this does show that at least some of HBG do dream of returning Magpies in full, because they keep talking about it, how it's not yet fair.

It's the worst thing he's written. Just blind to the dysfunction in that joint. Even the title is absurd. Strongman.... People are forgetting the incredible things that Richo has accomplished. HBG don't care about winning. Winning actually feels good and can bring people together instead of harking back to the 70s to teams that never won damn thing.

I think his complaint is in regards to the perception of the club. In their minds, to the general RL public, Wests Tigers are an extension of Balmain. That’s what the old Magpies fans are still bent out of shape about. They know the Magpies are in charge, but it irks them they get no recognition. That’s the crux of their issue.

Look, the issue isn't with ownership outright. The issue is that the ownership are moronic. Winning is not on their radar. It's entirely possible to have a board that just let the footy people do their thing.

Fair enough, my mistake and apologies to @Vicious for thinking he was making this up.

Glad that V'landys has stated this, but I'm over this obsession with Balmain during this period of turmoil, this should all be about Wests Tigers.

Stuff Balmain, they have been part of the problems we have been having for years, and that's coming from someone that goes back a long way as a Balmain supporter.

Possibly … but it’s an argument that doesn’t stand up to a lot of scrutiny , as any fan of the club under late 30s would be too young to really recall the parents of the JV ..so it’s all irrelevant for them ? What do they make of all this ? What other sporting team anywhere has to contend with this ?

I dont know what further recognition would have satisfied the old Magpies fans… and who should it have come from ? The Balmain Fans? The Media? The team? What could they have said or done to change things ?
 
FP, What I don’t understand is why do Wests Magpies feel that they weren’t strongly represented on the Wests Tigers board?
Did they not have more numbers than Balmain?
But that’s not enough is it? It’s those scoundrel independents who need to see things through black & white glasses.

You should give up any line of thought that includes HBG doing the right thing...

In otherwords, we need them gone... That we need to work on collectively as a unit over the next few years.

What I am trying to do is focus on the upside that we still have Shaun and Benji leading the charge from the football club... And that's the best possible outcome at this point in time given what has transpired over the last week. It gives us SOME hope for a competitive season in 2026.

My theory is that 26 years later …a lot of people still can’t build a bridge and get over it …even though it was put to a vote at the time…and it wouldn’t have mattered what happened since , short of their team coming back into the comp…

Nothing. Look at how deluded the chairman of HBG is... Lives in fantasy land.

 
PVL was pleased the HBG acted professionally and were willing to accept the independent directors back. What a load of spin. Of course HBG were happy with the outcome, they now have control, they still have the debenture system and they rolled Richo who they saw as a danger.

What did the members and fans get, absolutely nothing, same old same old inept HBG controlling the clubs fate. All PVL did was to try and create a veneer that the club is now back on track.

Spot on Laundy owning us would be win , a big win as they are able to do thing in multiples , they are use to handling big money and it’s their money so they are not dumb , we would be very competitive in the market and field , this would be a great outcome if HBG sold up to them
