I have a lot of mates and a couple of family members who are old school diehard Bears fans.

When the Super League War happened and eventually resulted in the amalgamation of teams whose tribal cultures didn't gel - St George and Illawarra, Balmain and Wests, and Manly and North Sydney it proved that the NRL's direction didn't work.

The Northern Eagles were a car crash, and both the Dragons and the Tigers have had consistent board infighting over the years. It all comes down to dollars, and the NRL is spending money in all the wrong places.

I guarantee Kerry Stokes will do everything he can to protect his AFL interests in WA.

Your right, the tribal cultures didn't gel with the mergers/amalgamations and they won't gel with Perth and Norths. It's amazing people don't see this. A rugby league club can work in Perth though if given a chance. $100 mill in total from the consortium and WA Govt, I don't think the NRL are putting anything in except the grant that every club gets.
In regards to Stokes's , ch7 have the rights to this year's world cup and apparently looking at some broadcast rights for the NRL so they arnt against NRL as much as everyone says. Stokes himself only has 20% ownership of 7west and is no longer chairman so no longer the power he used to.
I don't get why fans think we can't go national. 16k members already and they havnt even sold ticketed ones yet. We're are we? Still on about 10k?

Singo invested over $1 million into the Mariners back in 2006, and eventually it paid dividends in 2013 with a title.

I believe a team like ours, or the Jets, or even the Dirty Reds, needs a private owner or private partnership that doesn't have any affiliation. We need an owner that just wants to make money.

The NRL is a business, and loyalty no longer exists.

Yeah Perth needs that too, and had that. PVL just said no though.
 
perth will be a success, locals will go and watch plus they get some of the old bears supporters back.
they will become people's second team
plus it gives a good tv time slot for eastern states

The NRL-owned Bears last week flew a News Corp journalist to Perth to try and get positive publicity for the club. However, the move has backfired after the Bulldogs complained to the NRL about Meninga openly courting their players, who are under contract until the end of 2027.

@Jedi_Tiger I hope so, but I'm not sure it will. I have a soft spot for the Bears. They were ripped off in the amalgamation just like the Bunnies - Bunnies fought back due to Crowe's cash, however, I worry that the NRL's expansion at any expense direction is going to fail now.

NZ should have had the next expansion team. Wellington has a strong fan base that could have also cherry-picked some awesome union talent.

Never man . All of sudden I’m getting bulldogs podcasts on my feed , after the weekend because of Galvin . And nearly to a man they’re all singing the same song they were robbed . There’s not a brain cell or individual thinking amongst them . They’re the same as the eels . They have spent years destabilising the clubs around them but when someone does it to them it’s front page media for weeks about how unfair life is . They’re literally the 2 most amoral clubs in the nrl .
Every other clubs seems to follow a general moral code from what I can tell . Sure it’s cutthroat , and everyone is looking for leverage and an advantage , but there appears to be gentleman’s agreements everywhere . Eg. When Nofa and Harry went each way between us and Melbourne on those 3 occasions .
But not those 2 grub clubs . Every time there’s a story of a player secretly talking to clubs when they shouldn’t be , those 2 clubs are knee deep in the filth .
Everyone hates the roosters , but even they don’t operate like that . They just win the negotiations more often than not. They’re not out destabilising rivals at thier leagues clubs over Chinese .
The narcissism to cry wolf , would fall on most nrl fans with deaf ears . Unbelievable really . Gould is a smart dude , and a legend of the game , but I genuinely think the guys a cancer , and most of his “ideas” are self serving and detrimental to the game as a whole . The only difference being international football .
IMO he would do a great job at the IRL , but in clubland he can’t help himself from causing endless shit .

c'mon the initial half of the season they will get good crowds its a perth team, they will also get good support to away games in sydney with ex bears fans

There's trouble if it's seen as an fifo Sydney team. It's a big risk that wasn't needed. It's owned by Sydney, named after a sydney club, jerseys based off a Sydney club, most the board are east coast. We know all about split boards. The shit will hit the fan after a few bad seasons. Norths will want the club taken to NSW.
It would be one thing if a club with a license relocated over here. But this isn't that.

perth bears will be in it fir the long haul, it is perths team not north Sydney's, no way it gets taken back to sydney ever. North Sydney bears dont have too much say really.
problem will be Stokes and the anti RL media, you.could have the Western reds back and the media will be anti RL regardless.
would be nice if they had played 1 home game against manly at north sydney oval or a trial game against manly at north sydney

I reckon the 20th team should be a second NZ team to round off expansion and eliminate the bye every week.

A Christchurch-based South Island team. I heard the Southern Orcas (black and white colour scheme?) have a lot of backing and a new stadium was just built (with a roof). Or call them the Kea or Bulls or Wolves or whatever. Allows for a NZ derby twice a year, grows the game in the country that has plenty of union talent, and hopefully weakens the All-Blacks! 😉
