Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

club will talk to seb kris this week, i heard it was for a train and trial deal

a good source told me also that a david riolo client was shopped to the club to gauge intrest
if i look at the roster at titan sports, burton is the only one that makes sense, think we will have a sniff if it makes it to nov 1

skelton has an offer from parra
Would take Burton in a heartbeat but only if it means Douehi is gone. We can't carry both on our roster, way too similar.

Wouldnt hate:

1. Bula
2. Turuva
3. Averillo
4. Burton
5. May

Have we offered or plan to offer Skelton an extension?
I assume if he hasn't accepted Parras offer he's waiting for a Tigers counter offer?

Only issue is salaries I think..
Burton would want like 900k and we'd have to play May on the wing for 650?

Cheers Kade.

Burton is a cracking centre and an ok 6 but this reeks of using the Tigers to strengthen negotiations with other clubs, my gut is he would have zero interest in coming here. Even if it is not i'm not sure how he fits into the picture considering what his asking price would be...

Probably depends on who moves on and how many move on for our next purchases
We have
Luai , Toa , Geyer , Kit L and Luke L , gone
And most likely
Mason , AD , Bunty , Moving on as well , that’s 8 min and we have so far
Alverillo and Brailey coming that’s 2 , we should have cash and plenty room

Cheers Kade.

Bizzare comments him saying he likes playing centre not having burden of a 6 asking for less money with those comments loser comments

Burton plays on Luai side, as a runner with Sammy and May outside him could be a lethal combo.

Would prefer money spent on forwards though but available ones are slim pickings.

He recently said he sees himself as a half, however is enjoying playing centre at the moment. Purely saying this because he has been given the script by Gus and Ciraldo. Crichton is horrible at 6 and the only reason he is there is so that Galvin can keep the 7 on his back and play as a 5/8. Burton is an out and out 5/8 and it did not work having them both play the same position. I really don't understand why Ciraldo and Gus didn't just bite the bullet and put sullivan at 7 and Galvin at 6. someone must have a 7 in his contract.

He's been playing at fullback all season then suddenly we throw him into first grade as a running lock. Imagine never playing a position before and you get thrown into it in first grade.

No other club would do this. We don't know how to develop talent.
Exactly right, we are not giving the young man a fair chance to succeed and he’s done very well under the circumstances.
Many current NRL regulars were not even thought about as an NRL player at age 21 yet we want to write someone off just because he was good enough tj play NRL at age 19 and has not rapidly developed as well as we would have liked.

This is where the other teams excel and are able to nab players that are on the cusp of breaking out. Wah's have a knack of doing it and so do a few others. Our problem is we want to be a development club and be successful in first grade, you need to catch lightning in a bottle (and keep it trapped) like the Panthers did for this to happen. Storm have done it as well, their long terms success means that players are willing to bide their time in lower grades in order to get a shot.

We will need to invest in another half next year, just can't see it being Burton on the coin he would likely want. As you say we need some upgrades to the depth in the pack, but I think we probably need another depth choice for centre and a bench utility (if Doueihi throws the toys out again and refuses to do it).

And I dare suggest the Storm and Panthers have a much better level of assistant coaches that can actually develop a young players skills before they are called upon for NRL…

Last game aside where he come on late and out of position in my view …Mason has had more than a few opportunities by now and has shown nothing really in the top grade …

Not much point though getting into the weeds about him until if and when they offer a new deal…wouldn’t surprise me if they decide to move on …I thought he was supposed to be on the Bears radar a few weeks back …must have knocked him back..although if that’s true , the WT might be prepared to let him go
