Juniors - Pathways General Discussion

I see Campbelltown Collegians have gone broke and gone into receivership .
Thought they were a pretty big and strong club tho may be wrong here.
Not good either way

Shaun Mielekamp recently made a very good point regarding questions as to why the club is not doing a lot more in providing information, discussing and highlighting our promising players.
Like many others, my nitrous are we should be doing a lot more as it could make our younger and emerging players feel good about themselves and hopefully make them feel more attached to the club by seeing articles about themselves from within the club.
Shaun pointed out that he feels by highlighting our best younger and emerging players, although it would be good communication and reading for our fans, it also highlights them to our rival clubs and potentially makes them a bigger target.
Our club gets heavily criticised by myself included when we lose promising young or emerging players such as Cooper Clarke to rival clubs, so it does make a bit of sense to limit their exposure as much as possible.

Sad part about cooper Clarke is that he lost 30 kg before he was selected by storm ( John’s commentary ch 9 ). Had he woken up prior to not being kept would have been ideal but don’t think you can blame the club for that. Club has set a precedent miller for example.
It’s unfortunate but you can’t punt on one fatso with skill when the aim is first grade. If they don’t have the drive to get in shape while they are young odds are they’ll turn up in park football

The real question why the rough diamonds where not kept or not given the proper attention, certain people still at the club where so in love with Team Galvin they failed to see what they had already in the club.

Must be why there has been no promotion of today’s Wests Tigers CUBS 17/18s squad playing St Helens touring 18s at Camden!

For those interested, the replay is on Bar TV in full with commentary. I hope to watch tonight.

Surely it’s not hard for the club to pre-promote this on its socials and advise it’s live on Bar TV.

Talk about the club missing opportunity after opportunity to help fans build a connection with our juniors. Shaun M is talking a big game with our pathways but is missing a trick atm. I hope for our club’s future and his, this improves.

If you’re told by storm you’re a fatty you pull your head in…do the tigers not communicate kpis?

Watched the replay of the Wests Tigers Cubs (mostly 16/17yos) against the touring St Helens 18s from yesterday at Camden.

WT won 5 tries to 3 and were the better side in very windy conditions. The St Helens boys were quite impressive, a large physical team and were strong defensively.

Out of our lads, I was most impressed with the Finau twins (Kingston left centre & Zeph destructive energetic middle) & Denham Tsagalas (left backrow).

Big Noah Vaotangi (lock/middle), both fullbacks we used - Siaosi Vatuvei & Bainyn Wood, left winger Lachlan Ellis & lock Jyai Milford also stood out & forward Oscar Faumui had moments.

Kingston Finau is a short but powerful, quick & skilful left centre who rarely misses a tackle! Zeph is a powerful, aggressive middle with good leg speed & energy.

Big watch on Denham Tsagalas who is a tall, agile & skilful backrower who possesses not only strength & workrate but x-factor.

NOTE - Iszak Isdale, James Kerr, Thomas Aroyan, Jerome Cosgrave, Ratu Maafi & Bryce Blatch did not play. Those 6 would easily make this squad to add even more firepower.

Who were the halves?
I wonder why some of our better players in that age group did not play?

It’s always hard to gauge much from these types of games. With 20 odd players and unlimited interchanges it’s difficult for either side to build any real rhythm or combinations.
I also thought Finau looked really good, as did Ellis. Andre Hunter also looked sharp at times, and I actually thought our attack dropped off a bit when he was off the field. He definitely showed glimpses of why the club rates him so highly.
I believe number 13 was Luca Vaotangi, Noah’s younger brother, who signed with the club a few months back.
Will Malone didn’t play on the weekend as he was representing the Waratahs U16s on the same day, but he’s definitely one to keep an eye on next year.

Not too sure about the Magpies boys but Aroyan, Kerr and Maafu are all too old to be eligible for this squad.

Will Malone and Denham Tsagalas are two good prospect we need to hang onto and develop.

Nah thats absolute BS. Does he seriously think club recruiters are sitting there watching videos of our CEO to see who to target? LOL

The club is just lazy, they ask us to commit our hard earned $$$ every year yet they give us less info on our squad/injuries/juniors etc then ANY other club in the comp. SM has been very very poor so far imo

Id love to know what is in the water at campbelltown, it seems every decent outside back we've ever had come through the magpies system is 5'5 and as wide as they are tall. Not sure if its by design or (bad) luck. Guys like this are good every now and again but you need the more Junior Tupou physique to make NRL as a centre/winger these days. We're just glad Masi grew up in Orange or wherever it was.

Good to get your Balmain pathways intel as always BC. Any word whether we have Aroyan & Kerr also on multi-year pathways deals? Hope so.

Yeah on looking back at the CUBS 16s squad that recently played the Titans, I see it was predominantly the same players against St Helens plus a few others like the Finau brothers & Vaotangi (jeez he looks like his brother).

Makes me wonder how old Zeph & Kingston Finau are if they were in this team as all their team mates it seems are 16 this year but they are both in their 2nd season of Matts so I thought they were turning 17 this year.

Believe Zeph can still play Matts next year but Kingston moves up

They are twins so both eligible for the same grade. If they are still Matts eligible, wowee, they'll be at the top end of talent in the entire comp.

fair enough my mistake, I got told last year Zeph still had 2 more years of matts (he was starting prop at 15, only one in the comp) but could be wrong. I didnt know much about Kingston at the time but thought he was a year older for some reason.
