“Fortress Leichhardt

Made the 8 yes - but above us were 4 teams that are the only team in their city.

If they can't beat you who can.

We averaged more at Bankwest this year than our other grounds. That's about 17 years now that stadium crowds have bettered the traditional grounds.

Is that because the traditional Easter Monday game is always at one of those stadiums? Genuine question.

Every second year, yes. Not this year.

Well the Easter Monday game was at Bankwest, just wasn't our home game.

Also in terms of declaring stadium crowds better than traditional grounds, that's splitting hairs, the average home attendance at Bankwest over 4 matches was 15,108. The average at LO over 3 matches was 14,222. The basic difference was we got 24K to the home Parra game, which is dandy considering it's Parra's home ground. Take out that 1 Parra game and the average at BW dropped to 12,103.

CSS was 12,038 average in 3 matches.

I'm not against Bankwest but the crowds performance there was no better than other "homes".

Technically our best home ground attendance in 2019 was Suncorp, Rd 9 against Penrith. Why can't we just play at Suncorp every home match!?

That was my point about easter Monday. It only affects our crowd aves every second year. Yet year after year various stadiums average higher than the suburbans. The prople have spoken.

If Suncorp was in sydney, then I'd agree on using that too. But it's not, stupid comparison.

Home ground averages for the year.. we made the 8 in something! ![IMG_20190909_165809.jpg](/assets/uploads/files/1568012399429-img_20190909_165809.jpg)

Basically , stadiums to the top and suburbans to the bottom.

Disagree you can't count one team cities.

So in the top 8 - Stadiums 3, Suburban 1

@jirskyr if you don’t like the thread buddy, you don’t have to answer, why don’t you try that and before anyone brings up the Balmain West’s thing , I am from the Balmain side of the merger, people expect miracles when we play there, not considering whether the team is good enough- not

It's not about whether we play well there or not. It's about the fans being able to enjoy the atmosphere.

No, it’s about if the club can make a profit from the venue.

Couldn't care less if people don't think it's a fortress.
For me, I'd rather be standing on a packed Leichhardt hill with a tin in my hand watching the Tigers run out than be anywhere else on this planet.

Whether it's still our home ground or even a football ground at all when the time comes that I fall off my perch, my ashes will be spread there.

I'd like to see the penalty statistics for Leichhardt.
Like in the game against the cowboys, even when we win and have the majority of possession we lose the penalty count.
I reckon the refs think " I better not be swayed by the crowd" and then over compensate.
So in that way we are better off playing in ANZ.
However there is no better place to watch football than Leichhardt

One of the first things we should do in 2020 is to get rid of the “Fortress Leichhardt “ mentality, from a Wests Tigers point of view ,it should be renamed “Fortress Chokehardt”, no home ground advantage at all.

It once was a fortress. Back in the mid to late 80's. The myth has just carried on.

We're living in the past.

The ground itself was never a fortress, it was just that the team around that time was bloody good and actually won more games than they lost.

The stadium had no bearing on our loss, we played with guts as we have most of the year but we were against a gun sharks side, the refs were atrocious but even still we battled as well as we could. We had 1 prop on the bench and a small back rower with a 5/8 and a hooker we needed a miracle. Momovrovski was out of position all game which didn't help either.

Thanks for stating the obvious.

So typical of our fan base to try and make this about Leichhardt.

Reality is that this squad crack under pressure. Its not the ground its occasion you dinosaurs.

We have a 59% win record at Leichhardt and a 44% win record as a club.

While I wouldn't call it a fortress, it's a handy home ground advantage compared to how we generally perform. For comparison sake, look at our dismal record at Campbelltown - we have a losing record there despite it being one of home grounds.

If anything we should have more games at Leichhardt. I think ideally, 4 at Leichhardt (all Saturday or Sunday afternoons), 4 at Campbelltown, 1 in Tamworth or another regional centre, and 1 each at Bankwest, ANZ and the SFS.

Out of 8 games played there in the years of 2010 and 2011 -when we had a finals team - we won 7 out of 8 and lost one game to Melbourne.
A good team does not need to play out of stadium to achieve good results - that's where the real myth lies.
