$2 Million war cry

I beg to differ. I have kinda gone the other way. I embraced the JV at first and over past few years my love for WT has died. It isn't completely gone but it's getting there.

I have rekindled my love of the Magpies, and next year I will attend more Magpies RMC matches than I will WT NRL matches.

I used to pride myself on never missing a WT game and this year I probably went to 3 or 4 games and watched 6 on TV. I feel like I am watching something I love die slowly of cancer. That's how I see the WT.

I understand the Magpies will never be in the NRL again but the bunch of people running the Magpies Fanatics are awesome, we meet up at games, produce merchandise, we are having an Xmas party at Campbelltown this year. This is what WT should be like, but it's not even close.

Its a shame those guys that run that site/group so well dont share the love for Wests Tigers. They did so well cause they claimed while Humphreys was in charge of Wests Tigers he always seamt to side with Balmain alienating a lot of the Wests fan base well Humphreys is no longer here and the club is being run the fairest it ever has with a lot of the old boys(with allegiances) have left the building.Balmain or the magpies are never coming back so it would be great to make peace with these types and move forward as one. :sign: :sign:

Genoshan,I love your passion for the past,I like many have fond memories of the old Black& Gold Balmain, they were my sporting life..
Having said that, all it is,is Memories,I now love the Wests Tigers as I did Balmain and most of all I love the old Maggies supporters I have a beer with at Campbelltown before and after the game.
I love the Wests Tigers and will also donate to the Balmain and Western Suburbs juniors when I can…
I'm not critising you for the way you feel, but most have moved on..

ps..the Wests Tigers are in the process of being a professionally run club and a confident playing group,we will be the envy of other clubs not to far in the future. :sign: :sign:

WT don't need supporters like this , go and have ur little xmas party sucking back christmas cake and GI cordial no doubt

I will say this just once and I won't respond to other posters.

I was a once proud Balmain supporter. My father was born and raised in Balmain and he instilled in me an enduring love of the club. He insisted that we should learn the history of the club that we so passionately support.

Now I passionately support the Wests Tigers. But some people are constantly telling others like me that we are holding the Wests Tigers back because we won't let go of the past.

They choose to believe that the Wests Tigers began in 2000\. That's it. That's the new history of this club.

I choose to believe that we now have 2 histories. A Balmain one and a Western Suburbs one. I have been called a dinosaur many times. People believe that they are belittling me when they call me a dinosaur - I take it as a badge of honour. To be a dinosaur you have to have been around an awfully long time. I am quickly nearing my 60th birthday.

I have many, many, many fantastic memories of Balmain. Winning in 1969, watching rude Souths supporters try to man-handle Laurie Nicholls at the SCG in 1970 only to be surrounded by hundreds of Tiger fans coming to Laurie's aid. Watching the Balmain side being introduced to the Queen the same year. Then there were the lean years but in those years I was there to witness some huge upsets. I was at the old Sydney Sports Ground when Len Killeen missed a goal from directly in front of the posts. We narrowly lost that game.

There are so many memories. But others only want to remember things from 2000\. Some only have those memories because they are young. One day they will have over 50 years of memories and I hope that the Wests Tigers are still around and have won many more premierships.

Just don't tell me that I am a lesser supporter of this great club or tell me to "let go" because you don't wish to share the entire histories of either of our joint venture clubs.

Totally agree with you.

To know where your going, you need to know where you came from.

The idea is to be a Wests Tigers supporter embracing the past of both foundation clubs and leaving the sniping to the ratbags.

There are enough rivals out there having a go at us without taking on each other.

Len Killeen, remember watching his goal kicking, one of the best, missing that goal was one of the few.

To all us older folk on this forum, including CQ,Russell and Ed,we can be proud of our history from both sides of the JV,myself I was a Balmain fanatic..

We have great memories..

To the younger folk on this forum, respect what has been and embrace what can be…Wests Tigers are the future.. :sign:

I felt much the same, especially during the humpty years but I genuinely feel there is a change in the club and I'm hoping a lot of disgruntled magpies fans start to come back. A lot are bitter towards the Balmain side of things due to bias but now Balmain are dead and to top it off killed by one of their favorite sons I can't see why the black and white fans can't embrace the WT.

Here's hoping anyways.

They won't. The majority are too stuck in their own ways to even entertain the possibility. To the majority of them, its the Magpies or nothing.

A lot of people on here dont care if Balmain survives, but i do, only for the fact to nurture
juniors coming through to play for the Wests Tigers, and that is by being financial they will continue doing the great job they have done in the last few years.iam an old
Balmain fan but have been a Wests Tigers fan since it started,so a few dollars for a heritage football is worth it if its going to help them.

One of my most treasured possessions is a framed Magpies jumper signed by Tommy Raudonikis, Keith Holman, Peter Dimond, Trevor Cogger, Bob Cooper, just to name a few. Just looking at it brings back wonderful memories which will never die.

BUT I am now a fanatical Wests Tigers supporter and I always look forward to getting out there to support the boys. Having said that, if it was the Magpies who were drowning in debt I would not throw money at them, simply because they are are my cherished past but the Wests Tigers are my present and future and I don't want to try to resurrect the past, just hold on to the memories.

I have said many times before, I do not want a foundation team to no longer exist. What i do want is a thriving Wests and Balmain. I believe it is the underlying financial issues of Balmain that caused this rift.

Also how everytime a comment on WT is needed, its Benny Elias, Sirro or Blocker. Great players indeed but the 1 sided bias of journalists showing WT as a rebadged Balmain (who aren't contributing to the JV) makes the old dinosaur Maggies like me feel, it is us who are losing our identity …

As ex Balmain I must say you raise a good point re media thinking only ex balmain=WT legends. That issue to be fair though lies with the media and not Balmain however.

Genoshan and Jerry,I agree with Jerry and in my eyes the Western Suburbs Maggies will always be remembered by myself and other rugby league followers for their contribution to league and the Wests Tigers…
What the media do is entirely up to them,we cannot be held responsible for their inadequate journalism...  :sign:

It all comes back to the western Suburbs being victimised unfairly thru the media. Its happened the last 40 years and continues to this day whether its their football team or any other facet of life the west has always been a second class citizen to the chardonnay/cocaine filled buffoons of the Eastern suburbs/North Shore that call themselves the media.

Well Jerry,I have some beautiful people in the Western Suburbs that are family,to me the West is friendly and jovial..I care not for trendy upperclass wannabes that look down upon salt of the earth human beings…

We are all Gods creatures..some think they are better than others, including the media.... 😱pen_mouth: :sign: :sign:
