20/40 rule

Really don't like this idea. As others have said, the game will turn into more of Rugby game with more teams attempting to kick for the side line. Another point is if you're not good enough to get out of your 20 metre area you shouldn't have the chance to work up another 20 metres with a kick and another set of 6.

Really…how much attack happens inside a teams 20?
Not much when you think about it, its usually a few forwards hitting it up

But if you get to the 4th tackle and youre still in your own 20 then thats a poor attacking set. Surely you would agree?
Teams might choose to have a crack before the 4th but i doubt it.

i don't like this idea at all. as said, the area available to kick to with a zone reaching 40m out is massive. and it would be an unjust reward for a team who has just been played back to their danger zone. why penalise a side who has worked so hard to pin the opposition down at their end of the field?

good attack and then defensive pressure should be rewarded, not penalised… just my opinion.

maybe change it so you kick from within your 20, and have to get it out between the 40 and the 20 line off the opposing half.

Reduces the amount of sideline you have to kick for and makes it a more precise kick with the same margin for error as the normal 40/20.

LOL, why not a 30-30 while they're at it?

Actually TF4L thats probably a better idea than the 20-40 You might be on something there
Let Hollywood Harrigan know (seriously)

I don't know whether i like it or not. I wouldn't mind seeing it in action first. What i do know is that it would benefit sides like the Tigers who aren't afraid to run the ball inside their own 20, when opposition wingers have to either fully commit to defend in the line or drop back a few metres to protect the 20/40\. It would give us another dimension to our strong attacking arsenal.

I really couldnt see it happening with a team thats in front - too risky.
I can only see it occuring late in a game with a team behind….
Late in the tackle count the wingers would be back anyhow....so yeah 2nd or 3rd tackle maybe...might be different if a team has a howling wind behind them.

It takes me a minute to explain the 40/20 rule to people I don't want to take another to explain another. League needs to stay as simple as possible. The 40/20 rule is nice but we don't wanna end up like Union. Took me longer to figure out Union rules than League rules.

I dont mind it. It's something different and its also a gamble, if the team is good enough to find touch, then they deserve to keep the ball, if the other team is good enough to diffuse the kick, then they will have an attacking set themselves.

I would much prefer matches to be played inside both attacking 20m zones rather then between the two 20m lines.
