Thats an exceptional team. They should be favorites for this tournament…

The Aussies will beat them

Bug - Mannering hasn't played centre for over two years - Sau will get the nod ahead of him - with Mannering in the back-row!

Meanwhile - Smith is a lock and Harrison a 2nd rower so they would likely swap!

6 huddersfield players in the England squad. My tip for the games, watch out for Leyroy Cudjoe, very fast big powerfull full back, Wing or mainly center. Has a keen eye for the interception. Also sean Lunt one of the fittest players you will ever see and the word on the street is that he is after a NRL club.

interesting hometown wonder what the locals are called.

Australia and NZ play each other in the third week of preliminary games, making it possible for the game to be a dead rubber. Both of them could have beaten both England and PNG, making both those teams 0-2 and Australia and NZ 2-0.

The NZ vs Australia game should be the curtain raiser, because it would be vitally important for both of them. The loser would know that they need to win their next two games to qualify for the final. Whoever came up with that schedule is an imbecile.

i agree. it should be:

week 1 -
Aus v NZ
Eng v PNG

Week 2 -
Aus v Eng
NZ v PNG

Week 3 -
NZ v Eng
PNG v Aus

that way the nz v eng match would pretty much be a semi final, as it is likely the winner would would go through to the final

got the tickets for the roo crew bay against png. row 3 woooooooo

Hi, Alien, do you know what time this game kicks off? Is it the only game on, or is there some sort of junior game on first?
I'm thinking of going, hoping for a daylight game though.

Cheers!

4pm. I haven't heard if there are any other games that day. I'll be in Bay 73 (Roo Crew Bay) Row C, Seat 23\. A few people from The Jungle will be with me. We are going to bring some Australian flags and stuff. It should be fun. I'm tipping the Aussies to win by about 30.

Got my tickets yesterday, Bay 69, row B, just around from you guys. See ya there!

Dean Young is barely a first grader

Agree King S, he is only there so the newspapers can continue the narrative of 'son makes good and emulates father' that they adopted in order t try to make the Grand Final interesting.

International ref's?

The 'Ring'…would be liking the Poms right now..

**NRL quartet to play for Cook Islands against Country**
The Northern Leader - 09 Oct, 2010 04:00 AM

NATIONAL Rugby League players Zeb Taia (Newcastle), Keith Lulia (Newcastle), **Geoff Daniela (Wests Tigers)** and Alex Glenn (Brisbane Broncos) will spearhead a strong Cook Islands side in next weekend’s international showdown with NSW Country at Tamworth’s Scully Park.
Knights backrower Taia and Glenn have played for New Zealand, while Lulia was a big part of the Cook Islands’ wins over Samoa and Fiji last year on the way to the Pacific Cup final.

The squad named for the game in Tamworth is very strong.

“They’ve got some experience in the NRL,” Cook Islands coach and former North Sydney and Newcastle forward David Fairleigh said.

“Then there’s guys like Neccrom Areaiiti who was part of the Warriors side that just won the under 20s.

“It’s a good mix.

“We’ve got a lot of injuries to guys who have just made the NRL this year so they’re out but it gives an opportunity for some other guys to come in.”

The Cooks are already looking ahead to the 2013 Rugby League World Cup and every game between now and then will help the side prepare for the big tournament.

“We automatically qualify for the World Cup so over the next two years we have to keep playing games,” Fairleigh said.

“And we have to get our best players together.

“We have eight other players, all injured at the moment, who have played NRL this year.

“But the depth for Cook Islands is getting better every year.”

The majority of the team to play Country are signed to NRL clubs, mostly in the under 20s ranks.

Meanwhile, Country finalised its side yesteday.

Warialda captain-coach Chris Bamford and former Armidale and Parramatta half Dennis Moran are the local faces in the team.

“I don’t know much about their side but they’ll be competitive,” Fairleigh said.

“It’s a good opportunity to promote rugby league in country areas.

“But it’s also important that we keep playing international rugby league at the end of the season for the Pacific Island sides like Tonga, Fiji and Papua New Guinea and obviously the Cook Islands.

“Our dream is to play at home against the likes of Tonga.

“It’s great that the NSW Country Rugby League has given us this game.”

The Country team will assemble in Tamworth tomorrow for a training camp while the Cook Islanders arrive on Wednesday in time for the first official function of their stay.

The teams will also attend Thursday’s sportsmen’s dinner, featuring Steve Roach and Paul Sironen, before Saturday’s game.

I doubt Cudjoe would get a game tbh and the same I reckon about Lunt (he isn't a Huddersfield home-grown player, originally in the Saints academy).

1\. Tomkins
2\. Goulding
3\. Atkins
4\. Shenton
5\. Hall
6\. Widdop
7\. Robinson/Brown
8\. Morley
9\. Roby
10\. Graham
11\. Ellis
12\. Westwood
13\. Burgess
As ever we will probably get rolled over by you lot. Our forwards look good but our backs aren't great. It doesn't help that Eastmond is missing really as you will laugh at Robinson/Brown as they are not international standard.

Players to look out for:

Tomkins - Could easily make it in the NRL, fantastic player and could be our game-breaker. He now plays at 1 and has been likened to a young Billy Slater by Michael McGuire.

Roby - Had his best season for our lot, unlucky not to get nominated for Man of Steel and he definitely could make it over in the NRL. You'll be suprised how many metres he makes and he can be deadly off the back of a quick PTB.

Graham - The best English prop for the past 2/3 seasons, he makes the most metres in Super League by a mile and is very consistent. If you rough him up a little, maybe doesn't agree with a ref decision the he can back-chat and get a little too passionate.

Westwood - Had his best season in a Warrington shirt. I always thought he was a poor poor player, but this year he seems to have clicked. Big tackler and massive work-horse in defence/

Graham will more than likely be over in the NRL for the 2012 season so he can join Ellis and Burgess who have shown that your not invincible over there. For some reason, we English think that you can not be a good rugby player unless your an Aussiee/Kiwi etc.

Its probably True!

Seriously, this mind-set stems down from your adminstration over there. Funnily enough, you guys have more money in your game, but still have the old heads stuffing up your progression. Once a big broom comes through, this will change and your development will improve…

Best of Luck in the next couple of week. You will need it!
