**NEW DEAL SIGNED WITH SCG TRUST**
Monday, 2 November 2009
Wests Tigers has signed a new three-year deal with the Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust.
The deal sees four marquee games to be played at the Sydney Football Stadium and Sydney Cricket Ground until the end of the 2013 season.
Wests Tigers were already locked in with the SCG Trust for 2010\. Last week, Wests Tigers and the SCG Trust re-negotiated a new deal that sees the club playing four home matches each at Campbelltown Stadium and Leichhardt Oval next season.
The agreement follows Wests Tigers highly successful debut home season at the SFS and SCG in 2009 where the average attendance was almost 21,000 fans.
In 2009, Wests Tigers broke its home crowd record when 29,970 fans attended the clash with South Sydney at the SCG in May.
This record was later smashed when 34,272 fans, strongly decked out in their gold, black and white colours, watched the thrilling encounter with Parramatta at the SFS in August.
Wests Tigers Chief Executive Stephen Humphreys said the three annual games at the SFS and the fourth fixture at the SCG were important to the club and its fans.
“Playing at major venues like the SFS and SCG is an aspect of our business we clearly need to retain,” said Mr Humpheys.
“We feel it is important to settle into a permanent home ground for these four marquee games. It gives us stability.
“The SCG match against Souths has become one of the real blockbusters on the rugby league calendar and has its own identity now. The match has attracted crowds of around 30,000 each over the past two seasons.
“We were very pleased with the SFS experience this season and were happy to extend for a further three years rather than open up to potential offers to keep moving around.
“The feedback from the players and the coaching staff was that the SFS was a great venue to play out of.
“Playing three marquee matches at the SFS gives Wests Tigers the maximum opportunity to allow all fans to be able to watch the games in comfort at one of Sydney’s premier sporting venues.’’
SCG Trust Chief Executive, Jamie Barkley, said the Trust was delighted to extend Wests Tigers partnership. The new agreement with Wests Tigers further increases the Trust’s strong rugby league association which also includes Sydney Roosters home games, NRL finals series fixtures and Australian Kangaroo internationals.
“Wests Tigers play an attractive, attacking style of rugby league which excites NRL fans,” said Mr Barkley.
“Fans love to see Wests Tigers in action at our venues and this was clearly evidenced by the record home crowds they drew to the SCG and SFS in the 2009 season.
“Fans can now enjoy watching Wests Tigers at Sydney’s number one NRL venue, the SFS, plus at rugby league’s traditional home, the SCG,” added Mr Barkley.
“We are happy to partner and assist Wests Tigers play games at Campbelltown and Leichhardt in 2010 and look forward to working with the club over the next four years.
“Wests Tigers’ four annual games at the SFS and SCG will be their four marquee games of each season, and this concept is an initiative which excites Wests Tigers and NRL fans.
“These four games will clearly appeal to the wider rugby league fan base and stand out as the match of the round.”

Gonna stay 4x4x4 until end of 2013\. Looks like 6x6 isn't a short term goal.

6x6 doesnt even look like a goal to me.

“Playing three marquee matches at the SFS gives Wests Tigers the maximum opportunity to allow all fans to be able to watch the games in comfort at one of Sydney’s premier sporting venues.’’

I think that statement should be changed to "Gives _Rugby League_ the maximum opportunity to allow all fans to be able to watch games" because at LO/CS there will be 18 000 Wests Tigers fans, at the SFS there may be 10 000 Tigers fans and 10 000 away fans which tells me that statement isnt really true.

Like nearly all on here I’ve always wanted to return to the 6 Leichhardt, 6 Campbelltown structure. But since those 2 games last year I can see that it might be a better option to have the SFS hold those bigger matches. When it was 6 matches it felt wrong, but 3 matches I can live with, especially when you consider the big crowds that we know the Wests Tigers can pull. The match against Parramatta was awesome and it had to do with the facilities and atmosphere that that many people can generate.

Now don’t get me wrong – Long live Leichhardt and Cambo.

got to agree I think that Parra game was a game that proved the sfs move for big games was the right one.I think the 4x4x4 is a good fit because cambo and the cart should live forever. :righton: :righton: :righton:

:deadhorse: has to be a catch…we get 2 extra games at traditional home grounds........they extend the deal with the WSFS for 3 years......6x6 should be the goal....but as others have said......it's a good deal

I think the best we'll ever see is 5x5x2\. If we keep getting big crowds (25k+) to marquee games like Souths and Parramatta this year, it will be hard for the club to say no more and move them back to smaller grounds.

dissapointing, but i guess we can't complain with the extra couple of games at LO/CS

hopefully a 2x5x5 split will come soon, or even a 3x5x4 (sharing) deal

Hi everyone

I just hope that we don't have to play our home game against the Roosters at the SFS.

I do think the SFS is a great venue to watch footy from - but not as good as LO and CS - and can live with the 3x4x4\. And as for the SCG - not a great place to watch footy from. Only the history of Souths (and with Balmain, not Wests Tigers) supposedly gives this venue its atmosphere. I can't agree.
I'll be there, though!!

**CEO GIVES INSIGHT INTO HOME GAMES**
Tuesday, 3 November 2009
Wests Tigers CEO Stephen Humphreys today gives an insight into how the club is shaping up for season 2010.
>
In the first of a series of interviews, he spoke to Wests Tigers Media Officer Wayne Cousins about the venue allocation of home games.
>
WC: The announcement of our home venues for 2010 has been well received. Can you provide some background on how the decision was made to play four games each at Campbelltown Stadium and Leichhardt Oval and four at the SFS/SCG?
>
SH: Over the past five years, we have taken a number of our home games and played them at a variety of venues other than Campbelltown and Leichhardt. These decisions were made for sound commercial reasons and in the best interests of the club at the time.
>
Whilst we remain committed to maximizing our commercial opportunities, we felt strongly that it was the right time to take an additional game back to both of our traditional home grounds of Campbelltown and Leichhardt. Both venues are currently undergoing extensive upgrades of their facilities.
>
This morning (Tuesday) I had the pleasure of inspecting the major renovations taking place at Campbelltown Stadium along with Federal Member for Werriwa Chris Hayes and new Campbelltown Mayor Aaron Rule. We were joined by two of Campbelltown’s favourite sons in John Skandalis and Chris Lawrence. We were all blown away by the on-going transformation of the stadium. In addition to an extra 5000 seats, the players will have the benefit of brand new dressing rooms whilst the media and corporate areas are being totally rebuilt. It is a very exciting time at Campbelltown.
>
The work at Leichhardt Oval is also starting to take shape. The key focus of this work is extending the corporate facilities housed at the back of the Latchem Robinson Stand. Once completed, this new space incorporating a fully appointed function room for up to 300 people will greatly improve the experience for our corporate guests and the economics of us playing at Leichhardt Oval.
>
Whist the decision to play an extra game at each of our traditional home venues does expose us to some commercial risks, we are confident it is the right approach and the Wests Tigers fans will respond positively through their membership of the club and their attendance at our games.
>
In saying this, playing a selection of our marquee games at the SFS and SCG each year is vital to the ongoing health of the club. The commercial opportunities and the need to ensure as many of our fans as possible have an opportunity to attend these games in comfort cannot be overlooked.
>
This year, the game against Souths at the SCG and the match against Parramatta at the SFS attracted crowds of more than 30,000\. Had those matches been played at our traditional venues, our facilities would have been stretched to the limit which would have impacted on the quality of the experience for our fans. Furthermore, we would have had some 10,000 fans unable to watch their team live.
>
WC: Do you feel you have achieved the right balance now in terms of the home grounds?
>
SH: Yes I do. Whilst we will continue to review this from time to time, I believe this mix will serve us well and provide the right balance for the players, the fans, and our commercial needs.
>
WC: When will Wests Tigers announce which home games will be played at each venue in 2010?
>
SH: The announcement will be made later this week. In allocating games to venues, we take into account factors such as availability of the respective venues, their capacity to cater for marquee matches along with the preferences of our football and commercial departments.
>
WC: One of the questions often asked by members is how does the club chose which matches are played on which days?
>
SH: This is a good question and one I am often asked. The reality is the NRL clubs, Wests Tigers included, do not make these decisions. Under the current broadcast agreements, the schedule of matches is chosen by the broadcast partners (Channel Nine/Fox) via the NRL. We understand supporters have their preferences and get frustrated and disappointed that some matches are not scheduled for certain days. All we can do is work with the schedule given to us and from the club’s perspective, get out and promote the games as well as we can. From a fan’s perspective, we simply ask you get out and support your team as much as you can.
>
Ends
Footnote: Future interviews with Stephen Humphreys will cover updates from the football and membership departments.

Can't wait for the football one…......Humphreys puts up a good arguement for the WSFS.............we all know scheduling is an issue but allocating which games at which grounds is a Wests Tigers Management decision.............give us traditional rivals at traditional grounds........c'mon Stephen you know you want too..................

Hi everyone

Sad, isn't it that Ch9/Fox have control over the scheduling of games.

Maybe the clubs should be lobbying the NRL to have some input into this aspect when the new contract discussions take place.

**Tigers in tune with big games concept** By Steve Gee From: The Daily Telegraph November 03, 2009 12:00AM
WESTS Tigers will play a home final at the SFS and reprise the Heritage Round clash with Souths at the SCG as the club answers the call of fans demanding blockbuster clashes at the major venues.
Wests will also return to the SFS for a replay of this year's record-setting clashes with Parramatta and the Bulldogs as well as a third game against either Manly or the Roosters.
>
The move follows a post-season Daily Telegraph online poll that showed fans want at least three games at the SCG each season.
>
Wests Tigers CEO Stephen Humphreys said the club was determined to cater for fans by moving the biggest matches to the SFS, including a home semi-final, should the Tigers finish in the top four. The finals move means the club would surrender the home ground appeal of Leichhardt and Cambelltown, but would ensure no fans are turned away as was the case for the Dragon-Eels clash at Kogarah.

The Tigers have split their home games into blocks of four - to be played at the SFS/SCG, Leichhardt and Campbelltown.
>
"We feel those games should be our biggest crowd pulling games to maximise the financial opportunity there, but also to sit as many of our fans in comfort as we can,'' Humpreys said.
>
The move, set in stone until the end of 2013, comes after Wests Tigers twice broke the club's home club attendance records at the SFS and SCG this year, where the average attendance was almost 21,000 fans.
>
The round 10 heritage clash with Souths drew 29,970 fans to the SCG, before 34,272 fans packed the SFS for the round 24 showdown with Parramatta.
>
Because of renovations at Leichhardt and Campbellown early in the year, the Tigers will be forced to use the SFS in the opening six rounds meaning there will be no repeat of this year's end of year blockbuster with the Eels.
>
But Humpreys said the club was hopeful the NRL will be flexible and allow a possible venue switch: "You never know. We still want to be able to reserve the right to be able to move one if the commercial case was compelling,'' he said.
>
SCG Trust Chief Executive Jamie Barkley said several other clubs were in informal discussions about staging matches at the SCG.
>
Barkley said the Tigers-Rabbitohs clash was one of the season highlights.
>

Judging by that Campbelltown and Leichhardt won't necessarily get 4 games each.
It all depends on the "blockbuster clashes" that might get moved to a bigger venure that is conveniently one of our home grounds who have lost a home game or two under the original agreement.
perhaps the 4x4x4 announcement was just to keep the fans and local councils happy but the intention was to play the same amount of games at all venues as this season. The home ground conspiracy theory continues..
