2010 team

Looks like a top squad. This year we seem to have some depth around the number 7 with Lui, Moltzen and Taumata. This was a problematic area for us last year. With the possible inclusion of Lima in the forwards we will have a most formidable pack with a very mobile backline. Just hope we dont have any personality rubbish with Folkes and the new blokes comming into a fairly settled player group. I recon thats what killed us in 08 along with all the other coaching and selection issues.

each season players get injured.
that's a part of footy life we have to accept.
as long as the replacement players are competent and get in and have a go, really that's all we can hope for.
there will be some of the younger players stepping up, and some season players adding stability to the team.
if it can work out of a good blend of youth and experience, and keep mentally strong in the close games, to grind out a win, then have a good chance of making top 8.

thoughts?

If that is the best bench we can put on the field…..... we will get pumped........

Yeah, that bench defintiely needs more size. I can't see Flannagan starting. It has to be moors or shirnak. Fitzy will more than likely be the utility.

If you add 2 good signings of Tuqiri and/or Lima and the team changes dramatically. Suddenly you have Taumata as utility, Moltzen half, Cayless pushed to the bench and Fitzy+Flannagan out.

Fingers Crossed we get 2 more quality signings… and then we have a team & depth to rival 05.

looking at the other teams im really worried about next year now
we are probley behind storm,parra,dogs,dragons,GC,souths,penrith,brisbane
yes we have good depth with our wingers but prop wise we are still short and we dont really know if fifta or woods are ready for the next step
i think we have a squad that can win it if we find a fullback and we stay injury free otherwise we might just sneak intothe 8 but with past history im not sure if the team can

anyone else feel the same ?

Injury is a concern for every team, Its the great leveler…

Benji and Robbie are our 2 main risks

storm - still dangerous, slowly being eroded - not as scary as they once were
parra - 2009 fairytale Should be in the mix 2010
dogs - Peaked last year, fall to peices if kimorley is out
dragons - Recruited poorly and no spirit (Sorry Dad)
GC - Like a hot cousin, looks good but not going to be there on the big day
souths - Improving - too much mental bagage

penrith,brisbane - no chance

they have great coaches though that can get the best out of there players we dont
and i keep saying year after year brisbane wont make the finals and they always do
plus i think you underrate gc they finished 3rd this year and i think they have a chance for another top 4 finish

i disagree. i honestly think this is the strongest squad we have ever had. we have top quality players in key positions and finally will have genuine competition for spots. we will have first grade quality players in premier league instead of premier league quality players in our 17.

on the other teams:

storm - will still be up there but the salary cap and injuries will HAVE to catch up with them (they have had 4 years of basiaclly no injuries to key players)
eels - will be strong and up there, no doubt
dragons - will perform well during the season but dont have the x factor for when it matters. plus parra/canberra/broncs showed how to beat them late in the year
dogs - good solid team but once again lack the flair to take them further
titans - will be very tough to beat this year, but outside backs may let them down
rabbits - no halfback and once again no threats in the backs
panthers - have some real superstars but then alot of VERY average players, seem mentally weak
broncos - hunt was their best player by far last year. lockyer is ageing and hunt was covering for him in 09\. will start to fall imo

in farah, benji, moltzen and lawrence we have 4 blokes who are genuine game winners. then add world class players in like tuiaki, ellis, galloway and jason cayless along with the best players from the grand final making under 20s and i cant see how we dont have one of the best squads in the nrl for 2010

Ok Hammertime, even if we do acquire the 2 quality players you suggest - surely you don't believe we can be as competitive in the '10 season as we were in '05\. I believe that it will take at least 2 years for this team to gel, there are so many new guys in the squad, maybe some from the U20's, they still have a lot to learn. Of course I hope I'm wrong, and it will be the year of the tigers !

Disagree Bro.

In Tim Sheens - we have a top 4 club coach IMO. Up there with Bennet, Bellamy and Smith.

Now we are approaching a roster to match.

the problem is other teams have gotten stornger, its gonna depend on injuries and if payton/rhino can get back into the form they showed in 05-08 if they dont than our young guys will have to step up and im not sure if sheens will pick the right young guys

I think it rests on sheensy not experimenting too much this year again and instead has people in their natural position for once…

.... funny what happened at the tail end of 09 when he decided to finally try that.

4 Grand Final wins and 1 loss, Thats not bad…

Tim has been tasked with building two fledgling clubs almost from scratch.

Dont forget those years with losers like Terry Lamb as coach.

2010 is building nicely

i think 1 finals appearance in his last 13 seasons reads more accurately

if it takes that many seasons to build a team like the wests tigers than so be it. 2010 will be different. Sheens is slowly getting it right, but it did take some time and a good CEO in place. The future is looking bright.
