hmmm what do you think about this backline

1\. Moltzen
2\. Tuiaki
3\. Lawrence
4\. Tuqiri
5\. Topou
6\. Marshall
7\. Taumata

Not bad ….....best part about it is you finally left Lawry in the centres where he belongs................

Ah..I'll fix it for you.........

1\. Brown
2\. Tuiaki
3\. Ayshford
4\. Tuqiri
5\. Lawrence
6\. Marshall
7\. Moltzen

Yeah that's because Topou wouldn't be in the side otherwise and I think he could be good is he is fit.

1\. Brown
2\. Tuiaki
3\. Ayshford
4\. Tuqiri
5\. Lawrence
6\. Marshall
7\. Moltzen

 I thought you wanted Lawrence in the centres

I'm concerned about Moltzen being at fullback. We saw this year he wasn't that good at defending against kicks. I would rather him at halfback. Maybe try Taumata at fullback:

1\. Taumata
2\. Tuiaki
3\. Lawrence
4\. Tuqiri
5\. Topou
6\. Marshall
7\. Moltzen

Our wingers and centres would have plenty of size and pace. Ayshford the unlucky one out but could come in if there was an injury.

\
Maybe:
1\. Taumata
2\. Tuiaki
3\. Ayshford
4\. Tuqiri
5\. Lawrence
6\. Marshall
7\. Moltzen

We have so many options for next year eh. Maybe:

1\. Tuqiri
2\. Tuiaki
3\. Ayshford
4\. Lawrence
5\. Tupou
6\. Marshall
7\. Moltzen

14\. Taumata

what about this team:

1.Tuqiri
2.Tuiaki
3.Lawrence
4.Ayshford
5.Ryan
6.Marshall
7.Moltzen
8.Galloway
9.Farah
10.Gibbs
11.Ellis
12.Mataka
13.Heighnton

14.Cayless
15.Payten
16.Moors/Mataka
17.Flanagan/Fulton

Imo mitch brown is one of the worst buys, considering where we stand in this years recruitment, especially considering the wingers we already have not including the ones we signed. i have no idea why people are even including him in our starting squad, let alone the full back position where therer are others who would handle the role ALOTT better then he would. DONT USE HIM UNLESS NECCESSARY.

Look at it this way the sharks had one of the worst seasons imaginable on the field, it wasnt to hard to be one of their best players. mitch brown however proved time and time again to be the reason they were doing so poorely. so what possible reason is there to include him at fullback ahead of a lazarus, mullaney, taumata or even beau ryan, especially when its so clear tuquri is on the way headed for the fullback spot. although unproven at fullback each have obvious potential and are worth trying.

anyway 2010 is shaping up greatly and i cant wait for the kick off of round 1\. GO THE TIGERS!!!

good if fit….....Well that's one of the better reasons for playing first grade in a long time.....

Alien ….you crack me up sometimes....Ok switch Lawrence for Lote.......

What is one of your biggest complaints about Sheens?.....He picks players out of position .....Right.....

Well you have named about 5 backlines and you got......

1\. Lortay..fullback or centre......never played Rugby League there....He's a Winger.....
2\. Taumata....fullback....again in his 4 NRL games never played there........he's a half
3\. Moltzen...your concerned about his defence against kicks but of all the players you selected he has the most experience in the position....
4\. Topou...cause he's a good if fit...... 😱pen_mouth:

I like your last post.....

No I was saying Topou could be good for us in 2010 if he is fit (not Injured)

Lote at fullback - I do have my doubts but I wouldn't mind seeing how he goes during the trials, if he is with us by then. It would be good to have a fullback with some size for a change, running the ball back at full speed. If it doesn't work out during the trials then he could play centre or wing. Sheens watched Lote play wing in union and when he played with West Harbour and he would have seen Lote running the ball back from kicks. Maybe he is good defending against kicks and returning the ball and Sheens knows something we don't.

Taumata - I wouldn't mind him being our number 14\. Mullaney used to always be in the halves too but he seems to be going well at fullback now. Taumata at fullback was just an idea that they could try during the trials. The main reason is so Moltzen can stay at halfback. Moltzen never used to be a fullback either but Sheens tried him there. Sheens does like fullbacks to be skillful like a half so he could try Taumata there.

love it

That does look real good doesn't it. I am not sold on Tupou coming back and being up to first grade but surely Tuqiri will be.

Nice to be spoilt for choice for once.

1\. Tuqiri
2\. Tuiaki
3\. Ayshford
4\. Lawrence
5\. Tupou
6\. Marshall
7\. Moltzen

14\. Taumata

Ryan and Brown and Daniella somewhere in the mix will make competition for spots hot…

Tuquiri, Tuiaki, Ayshford, Lawrence, Ryan, Benji, Moltzen, Cayless, Farah, Galloway, Eliss, Hieghno, Gallen
Taumata, Fulton, Payten, Gibbs

Brown, Fitzhenry, Dwyer, Fifita, Daniella, Moors, Tupuo etc…

Not a bad little side/squad if it all eventuates favourably!! Might even give the comp a bit of a shake up!!!

I know we go on and on and on about next year but individually we have a GREAT team, if we can play together thats the problem.
1\. Lote - Could be up there with the best - top 5
2\. Taniela Tuiaki -the best - 1
3\. Ayshford - Has the skill -2010 will improve
4\. Chris Lawrence - great player top 5
5\. Tame Tupou - who knows could be top 3
6\. Benji Marshall -top 2
7\. Tim Moltzen - like asyford - very talented and hope 2010 is even better
8\. Keith Galloway -top 5
9\. Robbie Farah - top 2
10\. Jason Cayless - top 5..hopefully
11\. Gareth Ellis -top 2
12\. Chris Heighington - top 5
13\. Rob Lui - will be bigger and better - or Fulton

Team 1 v Team 2 ...........Who would win.....using players avaiable currently training with the first grade 2010 Squad????????...

Or come up with your own 2 team, combination....

Pretty even match up mate. Team 2 looks a little stronger in the forwards but team 1 definitely has the better half combo.

Whichever way you look at it, it looks good for 2010.

On paper there appears to be depth that has been missing. Suppose we'll find out how good that depth really is by round 26

i disagree. i honestly think this is the strongest squad we have ever had. we have top quality players in key positions and finally will have genuine competition for spots. we will have first grade quality players in premier league instead of premier league quality players in our 17.

on the other teams:

storm - will still be up there but the salary cap and injuries will HAVE to catch up with them (they have had 4 years of basiaclly no injuries to key players)
eels - will be strong and up there, no doubt
dragons - will perform well during the season but dont have the x factor for when it matters. plus parra/canberra/broncs showed how to beat them late in the year
dogs - good solid team but once again lack the flair to take them further
titans - will be very tough to beat this year, but outside backs may let them down
rabbits - no halfback and once again no threats in the backs
panthers - have some real superstars but then alot of VERY average players, seem mentally weak
broncos - hunt was their best player by far last year. lockyer is ageing and hunt was covering for him in 09\. will start to fall imo

in farah, benji, moltzen and lawrence we have 4 blokes who are genuine game winners. then add world class players in like tuiaki, ellis, galloway and jason cayless along with the best players from the grand final making under 20s and i cant see how we dont have one of the best squads in the nrl for 2010

storm - Losing Johnson will rock them, BUT all the key players you speak of are all in their early to mid 20's… Injuries won't catch up with them when 1,3,7,9 can all single handedly score tries without any assistance.
eels - On paper, I believe they are the team to beat, but I have to ask how the hell they are still under the cap...
dragons - I totally agree, will consistently perform but don't have that extra gear to go all the way.
dogs - Will see them in the top 8 again, possibly not the four. Will miss El-Magic being able to slot goals from anywhere, but Turner will nearly make up for that in tries anyway.
titans - I reckon the Titans will be history repeating. A team full of big names, but no drive to get to the big dance.
rabbits - A bit harsh, I see their halves improving signficantly behind their forward pack if they can keep rolling on.
panthers - Besides Seventy-Cents-A-Litre, Waterhouse, Jennings and Lewis who is a superstar? Anyone who mentions Sammut, Coote, Graham, Laurie is talking out of their arse.
broncos - You're right, Broncos are starting to decline. You'd expect that in such a competitive market and the Broncos losing all of the QRL to North QLD and Gold Coast. Not to mention a few Sydney teams having their on vested interests in some of the those clubs...

1\. Tuqiri
2\. Tuiaki
3\. Ayshford
4\. Lawrence
5\. Tupou
6\. Marshall
7\. Moltzen
8\. Galloway
9\. Farah
10\. Cayless
11\. Ellis
12\. Heighington
13\. Fulton

14\. Mataka
15\. Moors
16\. Gibbs
17\. Payten

The storm have lost their best defensive player and aslo 3 out of their top 5 try scorers of 2009…although they still have inglis and slater.
