16: Bryce Gibbs : Matt Groat
17: Todd Payten : Ben Murdoch Masila

Kick Off: Pat Richards : Tim Moltzen

Please keep in mind these things:
-Are these players better or worse than the Line IN 2005 (Not now, Not before)
-Are players still in same position now better than they were in 05
Also, The game has changed somewhat since 05… And we may be playing a much better team than we were then.....
I'll enjoy the Results!!

Dumb thread all round! You can't compare years. It's like trying to compare the 1986 grand final winning Parra side to their current side. Sure the 86 side had a sea of world class players but todays side would smash them by 60.

1: Brett Hodgson : Tim Moltzen–--Hodgo: was more consistant
2: Daniel Fitzhenry : Lote Tuqiri ----Lote: makes less errors
3: Shane Elford : Blake Ayshford ---Ayshford: Better runner, defender
4: Paul Whatuira : Chris Lawrence --- Lawrence: Speed
5: Pat Richards : Matt Utai/Beau Ryan --- Richards: He has the best from Utai/Ryan
6: Benji Marshall : Benji Marshall --- I think Benji is smarter now, maybe a little less agility (only just)
7: Scott Prince : Robert Lui --- Prince: In every way
8: Anthony Laffranchi : Bryce Gibbs Tie: Laffranchi skill, Gibbs muscle and D
9: Robbie Farah : Robbie Farah Farah is smarter now
10: John Skandalis : Keith Galloway Keithy: Skando was awesome but Keithy has the size...if only he had the heart of Skando!
11: Ben Galea : Liam Fulton tie: Both similar players
12: Mark O'Neill : Gareth Ellis Gareth: Loved Buckets, but Ellis is one of the best forwards in the NRL
13: Dene Halatau : Chris Heighington Heighno: Hits the ball up and just work horse. Halatau was a good impact bench player IMO

You can't really compare the bench, it changes too often.

Kick Off: Pat Richards : Tim Moltzen Richards: I've never seen anyone kickoff like Pat did...especially before they banned his foot-high kicking tee lol
Goal Kicker: Brett Hodgson : Benji Marshall Hodgo: I'm sure stats back that up...Benji is getting better but

I think overall we're better now, but so is the rest of the NRL. It's just evolution. Plus Benji, Robbie, Heighno, Gibbs and Fults are all older and wiser now.

2005 we had youthful fowards and elder backs. Now it's the opposite (not exactly, but overall)...which is a better combo because you have the brains controlling the game.

I think u need the right mix of youth and older experienced guys in a team and I think 05 team had it and this 2011 team has it

As I have pointed out previously when this subject is brought up it would depend on what rules of which era the game is played under .
If played under 2005 rules ,it would be pretty close 2011 still would win
If played under 2011 rules ,2011 by 20 plus

The way i looked at it was how does each player rank relative to the competition and then how does each player in each position rank vs each other. For example Hodgo might have been second best full back in comp in 2005 vs moltzen 6 or 7th etc. Therefore Hodgo > Moltzen on a comparative basis. Not perfect obviously.

A big thing is how the individual parts performed as a whole. In 2005 for example the team just seemed to click and lots of players had career finals series (Halatu, Skando spring to mind).

i think without a doubt this years side has better players. i still think that (although still extremely happy they won it) that the 05 side was not that good on paper.

the big question in my mind is whether or not they can click like the 05 team did.

here is my verdict:
(by the way, oniell better than ellis????)

-Player from 05 Better than 2011
1: Brett Hodgson : Tim Moltzen No
2: Daniel Fitzhenry : Lote Tuqiri Yes
3: Shane Elford : Blake Ayshford DEFINITELY
4: Paul Whatuira : Chris Lawrence WITHOUT A DOUBT!!!
5: Pat Richards : Matt Utai/Beau Ryan Yes
6: Benji Marshall : Benji Marshall Yes. he is way improved in my opinion and far more suited to finals now
7: Scott Prince : Robert Lui No
8: Anthony Laffranchi : Bryce Gibbs close, but just Yes
9: Robbie Farah : Robbie Farah No
10: John Skandalis : Keith Galloway Yes
11: Ben Galea : Liam Fulton Yes, at the moment
12: Mark O'Neill : Gareth Ellis YES YES YES
13: Dene Halatau : Chris Heighington No - agree, but Halatau was awesome in the finals

14: Liam Fulton : Mitch Brown No
15: Chris Heighington : Aaron Woods no
16: Bryce Gibbs : Matt Groat No
17: Todd Payten : Ben Murdoch Masila No

Kick Off: Pat Richards : Tim Moltzen equal. at the time PR was one of a few who could kick it into the try zone
Goal Kicker: Brett Hodgson : Benji Marshall No. benji is getting close, but Hodgo was great

okay, that equals….. 9 to 8 (not counting the kicking) wow. a lot closer than i thought!!! still, there are a lot there who are the same player, and i think it would be better to compare them to themselves where possible...

possibly some word eating to be done on my part....

i agree. i think now we have better players, but the test will be trying to get that same click which to be fair, i am not sure they have yet…

The Tigers never had a 5/8 like the current model Benji Marshall in 2005 and the 2011 Forward Pack has such a bruising defence, our 2005 team would be cannon fodder…

Wests Tigers will be 2011 Premiers!!!

2011 tigers would MURDER the 2005 tigers up the middle.

Woods, Galloway, Older mature Gibbs,

2011 Tigers would shut down the 2005 tigers in defense.

Ellis, Fulton, Gibbs, Highington, Lawrence, Ayshford - Brick wall defense.

Key dangers for the 2005 team would be Prince, Richards, Hodgson, and a younger more unpredictable Marshall, Halatau, MARK ONEILL,

Dangers for the 2011 team - A much more mature Marshall, Farah, LAWRENCE, Lui, Moltzen, ELLIS, Woods, DWYER, Heigno!

2011 has too much class.
