2012 Halfback Super-Thread

Interesting the Scott Prince thing, I doubt it. I f he was to sign with us for two years it would have meant things would have had to have been going on behind the scenes long before the events of last night and we had no need for a new no7 before last night and depending on what unfolds over the next few days we might not have any reason for a new one if the charges are dropped or if in fact he is found not guilty.

The only other conclusion would be that they were going to offload Lui and replace him with Prince and with the way he had played over the past two months I doubt that would have happened.

Anyway as for Prince–a big no, too old

Whats with ''the scott prince thing''??

Sounds like Ive missed something?

Humble sounded like he had a poor one the other day I heard the game on radio.
Porter, Prince, Mortimer….muuh not much about eh?

Thats a realy good point. It was only a couple weeks ago Sheens came out and scoffed at reports that Lui was heading to the Cowboys. He said something along the lines of good halbacks don't grow on trees, and they wouldn't just let him walk away. When you think of it like that, its hard to believe that Prince would have been signed

Exactly they wouldn't let him walk away but be forced out due to offield indiscretions?? Hmmmmmm a bit convenient dont we think???

If we are looking to plug a hole until a suitable Halfback becomes available, there's a guy running around in NSW Cup called Nathan Waters!!!

Nathan Waters has a cult following

Worst halfback in state cup. .terrible..

I think Mortimer has potential - perhaps a new coach and club culture could bring that out. However, whilst I think the rumour is just a rumour, I would take Scott Prince back in a heartbeat! Sure he's a bit older now, but having he and Benji back together again in the halves would be magic, I reckon - they have good chemistry!

There are no better options outside our current roster.

If Lui goes, then Miller can play 7\. Or it will mean the move for Marshall to 7, allowing another 5/8, possibly Sironen brought in a little ahead of plan.

The names mentioned in Prince, Porter, Seymour, and Mortimer are all worse otpions than the 2 i mention above.

Theres no need to panick, many called for Miller ahead of Lui all year anyway, id say there isnt too much between them, its just that Lui has had a couple of years to develope, but Miller strikes me as a player that would mature quite quickly.

If we sign Prince I will chuck a world class hissy fit. Bug's rants about the Magpies will pale in comparison.

Me too CB. Would not be happy at all!

Give me Prince for a year over Mortimer any day. Mortimer is Z grade, he is complete rubbish. All he built his career off was support play, he is not creative, doesn't run at the line, can't pass, can't kick.

If we are serious about a premiership in 2012 we need a quality #7.

Premiership: Lui, Prince, or Carney
Wasted year: Waters, Mortimer, Miller (needs more time), Smith, Humble, Porter

Not that it will happen but i still believe luke walsh is a good fit for us…. offer's exactly what we dont have in a very good attacking kicking game but a very solid organiser.

I reckon Lui will still be with us next year in some capacity. As Sheens mentioned, quality halfbacks dont grow on tree's. Our one just needs to keep away from the fermented fruit of those trees!

Tomcat…. You're dreaming buddy!!
Magic Waters was the only good thing going for BRET this year!! Solid in D, Always making ground...
Never gave up!!
He was quality considering he played behind a convincingly beaten forward pack all year.
Put him in with a quality team.... Then you will see why they call the man "Magic"

Maloney off contract the end of 2012\. He is the player we should be pursuing.

Signing Prince as a stop gap could be handy. One positive is that his wife hates Sydney so she won't move down here with him. Therefore, if we lose a finals match next year, we won't have the issues we have had the past two seasons.

That's not even remotely funny.

Might not be funny, but it is very true,Lui should be punted,Prince would be good,Carney also,Mortimer not so,Miller might seize the opportunity, interesting times ahead.

Why moving Benji to 7 is raised puzzles me. The guy needs room and would be to crowded at 7\. Possibly the worlds best 5/8 why move him to fill a void. Just buy a number 7 with experience. If they could get Prince (which I see as unlikely) it would be the best possible option. Not only will it fill the number 7 role next year but he would provide a wealth of knowledge for miller to help develop him over the next 12 - 24 months. Mortimer, Porter and the like will provide a suitable fill in for this period but would lack the ability to really develop miller to his full potential. Carney would be good but you just never know how long he will last. We can't just think next year we have to think what these players can bring long term. Much like the Blair signing which will provide alot of professionalism to our strong but immature forwards.

I feel that Miller is ready for NRL and from the games I've seen I'm confident he'll be more than just a ''filling in space".

I only mentioned Porter as this thread is talking about replacing Lui with someone currently outside of Wests Tigers.

Thread similar to the Mortimer thread.
Mortimer sucks, so why not make a play at this guy?
He's not old and has some skills…
What do you think?
