2012 London Olympics

Wasnt it 10 gold the prediction, a few weeks before the games?

Yes, very optimistic in hindsight. I find it strange that our athletes in **every** discipline are under-performing, not just one or two sports. I can understand that some sports probably need to go through a rebuilding process, but it seems that all of them need it. Or perhaps it's just that the world has passed us by in the last 4 years.

There have been a few really good performances from the Aussies tonight in the rowing and women's triathlon, but once again, silver and bronze, no gold :frowning: This is starting to give me the poops! I don't reckon we'll get another one. It's like watching Wests Tigers, except the athletes are at least trying

And we picked up another silver and bronze in the pool, and at the rowing, plus a bronze in the womens triathlon, and a silver in the mens long jump. Not a bad total medal tally, but we really are struggling to look like even winning a gold out there at the moment.

The silver and bronze medals prove we have athletes in the top few in the world for their sports. The lack of golds could be just down to not putting a perfect performance together on the day. Look at the Poms in the rowing…they are outdoing themselves. It hasnt been a successful games by past results for the team, however there are individuals out there who are doing really well.
Coutts brought home 5 medals
Fox did really well in the kayaking
Watt did well in the long jump
Crow had a good games in the rowing....
We are looking quite good in the hockey and sailing
Pearson has more pressure on her than anyone. I really hope she can get the job done.

Too true, Stryker - all those you listed have done us proud, despite there being only 1 gold medal amongst them. I'd add Seebohm to it as well. With the overall disappointment of the swim team, it's easy to miss Coutts' efforts in equaling Thorpe and Gould for medals won in a single meet. A great achievement!

One guy that does a very, very good shot at gold is Central Coast sailor, Tom Slingsby. He is miles ahead on points at the moment, but anything can happen in sailing. I really hope our coastie boy can bring it home for us, we'll be a very happy region if he does :stuck_out_tongue:

Very tough looking marathon course…..all sorts of obstacles for the runners, manhole covers, barricade bases protruding, cobbles stomes then polished smooth surfaces thru open lanes, all with the rain pouring down....intersting unlike sydney there is no single line painted on the road for them to follow...though its nowhere near as open as Sydney

Usain Bolt continues to amaze with an Olympic record in the 100m final. First time in history 7 finalists had gone sub 10 seconds and Bolt still won it fairly comfortably in 9.63.

Hahaha! Why not? We have a history of claiming New Zealanders as our own, especially when we're underachieving - Split Enz and Russell Crowe immediately come to mind.

is that the olympic flame approx half way up a grandstand or as looked like in a close up appear to be a stack of golf drivers being burnt. must be the first time where the flame is only visible inside the actual stadium.

How good was Bolt? That man is a freak. I dont mind him mouthing off like he does when he always backs it up. He walks the walk.

Good to hear young Watts the long jumper tell the media to 'wake up to themselves' I agree with him. Nothing to be ashamed about winning a silver medal. That means right at that point in time, there was only 1 person in the whole world who was better than you. Something 99.9999% of the population will never be able to say…..yet they hit the social mediums and criticise....wankers....

That ain't right…

for me the 100m has been the real standout. the bolt show along with other 7 runners really was special. the showmanship etc before and after the race were something else

Expecting a gold rush tomorrow for Australia

Probably 2 gold in the sailing and possibly a third in the sailing

God I hope so, Happy. Pearson is looking good also, as is the women's water polo team, men's hockey team and Michael Diamond in the shooting. Top 10 might be out of the question, but we just HAVE to beat New Zealand!
