I see your point guys, but just because you played under good coaches doesn't mean you can coach. Look at Fittler, Lamb, Langmack but to name a few. He might be a great coach- but I just think to give him control of the under 20's in his first year out is a lot of pressure.

Payten's one of the more mature and level headed players to have played the game in the last decade. He's also made no secret of his desire to get into the coaching ranks when he retired, and this goes back the last 3-4 years from memory. If he fails at coaching, it won't be through lack of effort or preparation. And hopefully that fine defensive technique of Todd's can be passed on to the Tigers NYC team because that was probably their biggest downfall, not being able to tackle properly and leak easy points.

Yes, their defence needs plenty of work, if they can get that right it will be a big step forward in the U20's comp. Our blokes have looked good in attack many times only to let the opponents back into the game through poor defence. If Todd can improve that facet of their game he will go a way towards earning his spot. I take the point about minimal coaching experience surely the club will set him up with plenty of support- I hope.

Todd will do well and I wish him luck, great appointment.
Go the Tiges in 2012

I see that as a good move by the Tigers and for Jones
Jones is potentially in the future a NRL coach in my opinion

It wouldn't surprise me to see Andrew Webster up with the 20's coaching staff, particularly on the back of a successful SG Ball campaign. He was the assistant coach at Hull KR and was also their Academy coach and will add the missing experience in the coaching department for the 20's.
