U20s SQUAD FULL OF TALENT UNDER TODD PAYTEN
By Wayne Cousins

It is a playing roster full of talent, energy and enthusiasm – meet the 2012 Wests Tigers U20s squad.

New Wests Tigers U20s Coach Todd Payten has assembled a strong roster of 42 players which will be cut down in February during the trials prior to the opening round kick-off on Sunday, March 4, against Cronulla at Leichhardt Oval.

Prop Matt Groat and half-back Jacob Miller have NRL experience after being called up from the U20s in 2011 to make their first grade debuts.

Curtis Sironen, Matt Evans, Mosese Fotuaika, Marika Koroibete, Kyle Lovett, Joel Luani, David Nofoaluma, Brendan Santi and James Tedesco are the players backing up from the 2011 U20s side next season.

Wests Tigers also have some of the finest young talent in Australian Schoolboys Brendan Santi, Andrew Vela and Kurtis Rowe. Santi captained the Australian Schoolboys this year with Sironen the vice captain.

weststigers.com.au will bring you an in-depth profile of each player soon.

2012 profiles are now up on the WT website. Photos have not been uploaded yet, but the squad has been narrowed down to the following players:

Shawn Craig - Second row, 181cm, 88kg
Matt Evans - Centre, 185cm, 89kg
Andy Fiagatusa - Backrow, 182cm, 90kg
Inno Inosesio - Backrow, 175cm, 89kg
Marika Koroibete - Wing, 180cm, 90kg
Kyle Lovett - Second row, 182cm, 100kg
Joel Luani - Hooker/Backrow, 180cm, 92kg
James Luff - Hooker, 177cm, 85kg
Jordan Marshall - Five eighth/fullback, 178cm, 74kg
Brodie Monroe - Second row, 182cm, 97kg
David Nofoaluma - Wing/centre, 175cm, 90kg
Soni Paasi - Prop, 180cm, 104kg
Kurits Rowe - Fullback, 178cm, 82kg
Brendan Santi - Lock, 182cm, 95kg
Ben Saunders - Hooker, 177cm, 88kg
Curtis Sironen - Five eighth, 195cm, 95kg
Jesse Su - Second row, 182cm, 95kg
Adrian Tatola - Prop, 182cm, 109kg
Connor Toia - Halfback, 180cm, 81kg
Andrew Vela - Second row, 182cm, 95kg

The notable omissions here include Jacob Miller and James Tedesco. My biggest worry with this squad is the lack of size, with only two players listed at over 100kg. As we saw last year, the Tigers really did struggle up front once Groat was promoted to FG, and while the backrow has plenty of talent and skill, I fear that a lack of go forward up the middle may hurt the Tigers again this year unless there are some big boppers not yet mentioned.
