2013: PRE SEASON HYPE

I remember pre-season a few people, mainly just BenjiMagic were talking up a lad named Rory Brien as the player of the season and one to keep an eye on… Not sure if he even played one game?

Tim Simona has always been one of my favourite players but I didn't expect him to get much of a shot this year and he did, which I loved. He really had a go and proved his worth, one of the top up and comers no doubt. Hopefully a tiger for life, he had a great year.

Nofo > Koro ... for 2013 at least.

The season ended a while ago and the year is over in a couple of days or so,
Anything you guys think didn't live up to the hype or was an unexpected surprise?

Agree with everything you said Demps. I personally had high expections of Ayshford and Lawrence, with 4 playmakers on the field (Benji, Miller, Farah and Anasta) I would of thought they would perform but they didn't.

Simona didn't get a great deal of attention which was odd considering he was absolutely amazing in the game vs the Bulldogs in late 2012.

Haha remember all the talk about whether Miller would stay or go….

i thought he got a solid amount of attention, not hyped up as much as brooks or anything, but many people on the forum knew him and knew that he was a good player (albeit we didn't expect him to do as well as he has).

same with nofoaluma, people were calling for his call up too.

Good to see the coach knew Simona was a gun and let him have a go.
So much highlight footage from him this year.

Miller, forgot all about him… Haha.
Who knows why he failed... didn't get a proper go, poor attitude, all in all... forgettable.

Tim simona is a legend. It was awesome for me to be at the games where he scored those individual great tries. Was also great seeing them on tv. The Penrith try stands out. And the photo of him out running Slater is a great one. Fingers crossed for him next year. Seems a great person also.

When you finish 15th , is it safe the probably 90% of our squad didn't live up to the hype ??

Many of the senior players certainly didn't live up to the hype including Farah

Are you forgetting the amount of injuries we had? Yes we had a number that didn't live up to the hype. But we didn't ever have an established 1st grade team…

At what stage did Farah not play well? Oh wait ur right, he did nothing when he was injured... That must be what u were referring to....

For the life of me I could never understand all the hype about Miller never looked a team player and his defence in the lower grades at times was atrocious. Sheens only needed one game to know he was a dud. Potter took a little while longer to be convinced.

Brooks that's a different story and Moses well they are actually champions..all you have to do is watch them play…it's easy.

not to mention teddy, sue, fults and siro.

hell more than half the team was trying and doing well. the rest were abysmal; utai, moltz, lawrence, ayshford, pettybourne, blair, masada, lote, miller etc. etc.

we did crap because originally it was a poor side, and then we had injuries and no consistency in the squad, in the end we found a little bit of form.

it's no coincidence that the teams up near the top also had the fewest injuries, namely souths, roosters and storm

Perhaps a few people need to look up the word "Hype"

Did Farah or many others play to their absolute potential ??

NO

Yes the younger players exceeded expectations

But many of our established players didn't play to potential Simple facts

Did he get near his best , not really ??

He will only get back to his best when we take some of the defensive workload off his shoulders

He also went crap when he was sitting on the bench for 20 minutes in the Manly game. Manly scored three tries from memory while Farah was sitting on his bum. Yeah, he let us down!

Yeah I thought Robbie was below his best in 2013 …. But having Potter there probably explains it.

Bit harsh, Farah is a elite player he should be able to play at a high standard under any coach. I thought he was close to our best, but down on previous years form
