2015 Marquee signing announced

Just viewed Mayer's interview in WT news and he mentioned our 2015 marquee signing is Aaron Woods…this implies we are not going to go hard for an external marquee in 2015.

Interview is here

well, as he is an incumbent it feels different to the usual "marquee" player signing but i am more than happy with this.

just a side note: grant was worried about this, and checked with me on it…

Pretty easy to answer a set of questions you've written yourself

The 'woods is our marquee signing' thing is just embarrassing

If you aren't signing any marquee players for next year that's fine, just say it instead of trying this ridiculous tactic.

'My wife wanted an extension with a third bedroom put on the house, but I told her people in a one bedroom house would consider a second bedroom an extension, so keeping the second bedroom is our extension'

Farah & Benji have been our 2 marquee players for the last few years.

Why is Woods different?

Did you listen to the interview? To sum it up this is what he says:

'People keep asking me if we're making a marquee signing for 2015, well if another club signed Aaron Woods he would be a marquee signing, so that's like a marquee signing for us….'

True, it's just as good as us signing Jarryd Hayne next year.

if this club thinks Woods is like a marquee signing, then I fear for our future…

I love the Woodsman, but he isn't close to a marquee signing for any club just yet!

Everyone is glad that we've resigned woods, it's great work by the club.

However retaining someone from the squad that finished 15th in 2013 is not the same as buying a state of origin player from another club. It isn't improving our roster at all

And if we were to sign an external marquee player but lose Woods, then everyone would want to lynch the CEO.

Everyone really needs to settle down. He's not going to go out and promise that we will get a new marquee signing when 2014 hasn't even started. What if Tedesco becomes the next Billy Slater? Oh sorry can't resign you as I promised we would specifically get a marquee signing from another club.
What if nobody wants to come to the Tigers? We are favourites for wooden spoon and as Mayer pointed out, our training facilities are shithouse. Untill we start winning games I don't think too many players will be lining up for a contract.
So, as Mayer said, we are concentrating on retaining our talent (which everyone has been whinging about for years) and if there is space left in the salary cap we can go after other players on the open market.

Don't worry Jim we just need Rd 1 to arrive so all the nothing threads can go by the wayside and we can start analysing actual footy.

I agree with Brother Jim , but would like to think we got a top signing within our capabilities, like when we signed Blair , that had a Marquee feel at the time

Haha yeah im itching for Rd1

I don't have a problem with it. I think the first thing we need to do is retain our top players without breaking the bank.

Lets see where we are at the end of the year. Our last outside marquee signing hasn't exactly been a gun.

I predicted this to happen. That's why I'm not to impressed with the way GM conducts his business . While I'm happy with Woods re signing, it can be interpreted as just that. And once again was there any need to say that he is our marquee signing. Just get on with the job.

He mentioned marika (along with teddy & Nofa) as "marquee"….they arent marquee yet...they may be in OUR current team, but theyre still developing....no one else recruiting them would class them as marquee, theyd be poetentials

.....and also says ''were in a position were we are able to develop our own players''

So what...most clubs are Grant....but you cant rely solely on local juniors

It seems different peopl have different views on just what a marquee player is

Anyone else feeling like a mushroom at the moment

Mayer leads everyone to believe we might have an external signing and we are just resigning our current marquee players

Surprised he didn't include Kidwell as a marquee signing as well
