2017 and beyond what are the recruitment & retention plans?

whereas Teddy came out during his negotiations and said things like " the Club knows i want to stay here " ( referring to the Wests Tigers).
These guys have been on massive money the last couple of years all in the name of POTENTIAL and are acting like Origin stars….they have done diddly squat and i would be making Brooks nervous and open discussions with Leary's Manager .
Hasn't the Club learn't what got us in this situation ?

You might aswell go on the open market and pay the $700,000 for the Maloneys , maybe getting on with age but you know exactly what your getting for your investment whereas with Moses and Brooks your rolling the dice paying huge money for players that are still unproven on a consistent level and whether there going to see the big POTENTIAL we are all led to believe.

Need a quality second rower. Taylor from Penrith would fit the bill.

Like Lowe from Cowboys but he will not leave them. Hannat is retiring so frees up some money.

Luke Lewis perhaps? Seems to be getting better with age.

I think he's a great player but for health reasons we shouldn't be going anywhere near him.

I'll say something that will probably be controversial, but I don't think Nofo has many years left in him. He's a demon with ball in hand and is one of the best tackle busters in the league but his overall game is quite limited. He looks well down on pace and has been for a long time. His aerial game is terrible (particularly in defence).

I like him so I hope he proves me wrong but we'll need some wingers coming through the grades to make firsts I think. Rankin is a weird stop-gap and only our club would play him on the wing.

Agree on Rankin, he is no winger, but Nofo, he is a pretty decent winger, and he should be kept on, and he is a junior who loves the place.
Taylor needs to give JAC or Karwin a shot, we are wasting a wing spot with Rankin.

Rankin as a winger is seriously laughable.

I've been told his done plenty of brown tonguing to JT in the Pre-season.

Call BS on that, unless you name the source.

You can't just defame someone as brown nose on hearsay.

NRL drug testers found a seed on Rankin's tongue which had DNA from Taylor's feaces.

I wish a lot more of our players would do Extras…

A winger and a bench Plodder are all it seems peeps are losing their lunch over...if only our problems were that simple....

I agree and what does it even mean - You don't have to name your source to give us concrete examples of this supposed behaviour.

If its doing extra sessions , training really hard well then he should be rewarded for that. If you reward players for this behaviour then you set a standard for everyone else to follow.

Luke Keary is rubbish. He is the modern day Braith Anasta incredibly over rated.

He has been behind the best pack in the game the last 2 years and yet last year Luke Brooks got twice as many try assists , twice as many line break assists .

To find out if Luke Keary was being over paid you'd only have to see if he was in the top 25 because if he was then he is being over paid. Have seen nothing to prove to me he would even be a FG if he wasn't playing behind the burgess brothers

I think you're being harsh on them. They've been hyped up a hell of a lot from their days in SG Ball, and so have a massive media profile beyond their station. That's not their doing.
As a result, both of them are continually asked about their respective future, week after week. There's nothing really they can say other than what they do tbh. The media is driving the speculation on the two of them, not the players….

As for not being sold on Brooks, I tend to agree, but we don't really have any other option than to hope he takes up the option for 2017\. Keary is asking for a lot more, and Brooks isn't far off him despite being a full three years younger.

You really know your footy don't you , any player that trains really hard gets a start in your book . That's why Lovett and Buchanan are in the side cause they train hard :roll, i heard it all now

All I'm saying is that I'm hoping the Club has set a price that there prepared to go to and stay firm on that.
Our squad shouldn't have to be sacrificed at all cost to make sure our halves are signed and then having to play State Cup players cause we have put all our eggs in the one basket with these 2 guys.
They have showed patches of brilliance but not worth what there asking for but there is a demand for halves from other Clubs so they will suck us in for all its worth.

I think Moses has the goods and will be a gem, Brooks might still be the hype people have said but consistently week in week out? Way of the pace IMO. This is Brooks 4th year in 1st Grade so really has to make this year count.

Brooks is in the beginning of his third year. Playing 65 mins in a dead rubber in 2013 doesn't really count.

re: the club setting a price - it's a double edged sword really. As you say, there is a large demand for halves at the moment. If we don't re-sign these two, we'll have to spend big $$ on someone else, or go the cheap way and grab a journeyman and hope for the best.
As it stands, Broses taking up their reported $600pa options seems the best outcome for us - it's hardly a cap-breaking amount.

Yeah your right….my mistake ricksen, it is Brooks 3rd year, i wasn't even including that 65 minute game vs the Dragons....my bad.

We have risked so much on these 2, we have seen players like Austin and Te Marie Martin let go and hope these 2 live to there hype.
Had we got a decision last year from these 2 and if one of them did leave ? You plan around it.
Maybe we could of kept Te Marie Martin for $300,000 before he even played 1st grade and get on the market for a proven halfback for $700,000 - $800,000 if they both wanted to leave?
I'm sure Te Marie Martin would of stayed if an opportunity represented itself.

We will wait and see.

Having both your halves off contract with an option in their favour (that you allowed them to extend) is just stupid. If they were both to pulll the pin at the end of June, we would be looking at the scraps floating around, or getting caught in a bidding war. If their form goes backwards, or they get a long term injury, we will be stuck paying 600k for someone that will be a NSW cup player.

Exactly

The Club has allowed this situation to become out of there control in allowing them till June…..they must be crapping themselves if this backfires in there face .
Don't know what halves will be available in June :unamused: .
They must have had some assurances ? our Club couldn't possibly be that stupid .....very risky move but have allowed the players to be in control instead of the Club :unamused: .
Recipe for disaster

The club must retain the halves, this is an opportunity they (we) have been waiting 10 years for and it's an opportunity that might not come around for another 10 years. These 2 know each other's games so well. They are still improving and learning. Are they going to be greats of the game? Highly unlikely but they will still be very, very good. Tedesco loves playing with them. For the past 10 years we've been crying out for a fullback and a pair of quality halves. Hey! We've got them. And they are all locals so kids from the local district footy comps have something to aspire too. Brooks and Moses are playing behind a good pack now but given 1 or 2 quality additions to that pack they will be even better. If they were playing behind the Broncos or Bulldogs or Cowboys pack they'd be killing it. That's what this club has to do, build around them. The club doesn't have to change the roster too much, just add 1 or 2 quality players next year. I'd love them to get Gillett, that'd do me. He's plenty of experience in big games, a very good defender and troubles defenders. Jesse Sue could play front row. Woods, Grant, Sue, Ava and perhaps Josh Aloiai could all do the job up front. Perhaps cover for centre would be good but don't think we need to lash out for this one.

Im with you Boonboon. Bennett has shown over the years that certain positions you just don't pay overs for. Wing is one of those positions. Very few sides have found it difficult to replace a top winger. We, with TNT, are probably an exception.

We have paid the price in the last few years in investing in wingers - Lote and Pat- as good as they were (and Lote was very good in his first season), they just took up too much of our cap. We need to be more sensible about where we allocate money.

As for wingers, we need 3-4 first grade quality IMO. Nofo we have. After that I am happy to invest in JAC and Kharwin. We probably need one other. Doesn't need to be a superstar. Fast and comfortable under the high ball is all I seek.

Well Bennett got a problem then

If he doesn't spend some bucks on Corey Oates to retain him they are mad

Think Oates is seen as a long terms backrower, but the broncos have plenty of them
