Absolutely spot on! My only concern is I don’t think Madge has the same pulling power as Bennett when it comes to bringing good players along with him, especially since he hasn’t had a gig in the NRL for a couple of years. Who would follow him here?

I'd be looking at kiwi test players coming off contract within the the next season or two. I'm sure being coach of NZ would help in getting players to the club in my opinion.

I wouldn’t put too much stock into that personally.

Neither would I. Did we sign any Australian players while Sheens was in charge.

What the actual

it wasnt accidentally, it was a mantra he used to inspire the guys who were left.

No it wasnt…he mentioned it in an interview and the media ran with it...im not sure you know what a mantra is?

Yes i agree he mentioned it in an interview about Moses i think it was. Regardless of that it was then used by the club. We can only assume with Cleary's approval. It was a rally call, one to bring us together. The club even used it in its marketing.

mantra = group of words in Sanskrit believed by practitioners to have psychological and spiritual powers

Not quite sure what you are trying to say or imply? The evidence of the club using the saying is there for all to see.

From what I recall it was pretty much a throwaway line by Cleary. However, whatever he felt about the club running off with the bus analogy it was pretty clear he was trying to instil a set of values at this club. Values he's happy to selectively forget to chase an opportunity elsewhere. Not his fault the club went stupid with the bus line but it is quite clear there were underlying values he was alluding to with that throwaway line. Much like the be the player you want to play with etc.

Definitely was his mantra, as you can chose from a range of phrases that he utilised early on and they all meant the same thing.

The problem was the Clubs media department running with the bus they made it more than what it was…

The culture thing such as be the player your team mates want to play with and star of the team is the team was all Cleary driving his mantra which now looks like a pile of crap ... it's where he lost his integrity ... and that's my opinion

100% agree. This is why so many of us are so angry - he sold this crap and his actions did not match his talk. He has no integrity and will not be looked upon the same again. He’s taken a big hit.

And then there are those of us who never got sucked in.

Amazingly insightful post - thanks.

Yeah I got sucked in as you so eloquently put it. I believed he actually wanted to start a rebuild and see it through. And yes, it is very disappointing that this belief was misplaced.

Apart from addressing personal insecurities I’m not sure why you felt the need to highlight the point that you weren’t sucked in

He sucked me in as well Steve. For some sixteen months I thought that I was seeing someone with team and sporting values reasonably mirroring my own, taking charge of my lifelong team's destiny. Extremely disappointed and more, as he directly sold this to us and all associated with the club

I'm on board the 'Wayne Train' if Ivan is off the bus, says Marshall
By Adrian Proszenko
16 October 2018 — 6:00pm

Asked about Cleary leaving after so soon after forging his ‘on the bus’ mantra, Marshall said: “I feel like everyone is making a big deal about that. ‘On the bus’ is not about Ivan, it’s about the club. Everyone is making it about Ivan. **He might have said those are words accidentally**, but it gave the fans and the players something to be a part of.

Madge’s Mantra !

Yamma yamma yamma yamma yamma

ॐ भूर्भुवः स्वः ।
तत्स॑वि॒तुर्वरेण्यं॒
भर्गो॑ दे॒वस्य॑धीमहि ।
धियो॒ यो नः॑ प्रचो॒दया॑त् ॥

What is all this baloney about mantras? I didn't even know Ivan read sanskrit?

sign Madge for 4 years and put all the speculation to bed. Uncle Wayne although obviously a top coach, is a traveling side show and we need a bloke without whistles and fan fare. In a way similar to Ivan. a quite achiever and we need a bloke long term. Basically we need this put to bed and the last thing we need is this to drag out for another year

Wayne is a stud with the ladies

That almost perfectly describes my position. Once I was the most one-eyed vocal Wests magpies supporter you could be. That passion has eroded to a point where I don't watch all WT games but I still follow them. If that makes me a fair weather fan then so be it. They're just words and don't reflect my feelings after nearly 60 years of following football.

Yeah I tend to agree with you here. I watch every game without fail but my level of caring is declining with each season that goes by. Started off the season well but then hit the usual Tigers decline as the season went on. I was there for the last game vs Souths and it was embarrassing.. Unless we get a new coach and some new cattle ASAP 2019 will be more of the same.

It will be more of the same regardless who is coaching. Not sure why its so vital for Cleary to leave in order for us to have good year. Thanks to the wonderful squad he assembled for 2019, not even Bennett could get much out of them if was to come this pre-season.

Oh look I totally agree re: the team, as it stands now you'd have to say it's extremely unlikely we'll make the 8\. But, with a new coach i'm hoping that at least we see some improvements by way of motivation, discipline, closing out games etc. Things that I initially thought Cleary brought (based on the start of the season) but the longer the season went it was evident that he didn't.

Cmon, don't write us off for next years 8 now!

Give us at least 5 rounds to solidify that belief. It's going to be Robbie Farah's/Benji Marshall's/Ryan Middleton's best year ever… *sic*

Yes if we loose Cleary, and don't get Wayne or another big name then yes it will be a tough ask to make the 8.
But look at what we had this year!
Us Wests Tigers fans need to pull our heads in. We virtually rebuilt our team from scratch. New coach and so SO many new players. We lost 3 of our "big 4" and with so many new faces were lucky to be coming 9th.

Anyway what's the rush. We were well due for a rebuilding year

No offence Pom, but unless it comes from someone involved it’s just another rumour

Oh dear…...Why

Because we don’t know where the Journos get their info from , even it happened to have some truth in. It.
In last month or so they’ll write anything to the rumours rolling and their columns filled.
Believe it , if and when the club releases it.
Until then, just another rumour.
Untill

Seriously Ivan could be dressed head to toe in Panthers gear, at Penrith, training the team, then drive home to his home in Penrith in a car covered in Panthers decals with the number plate LUVGUS and you’d say ‘oh well nothing from the club yet so it’s just another rumour’.

There are quotes from Penrith and from Pascoe confirming what most people with common sense can see has happened with Ivan the terrible.

Can you please post or link these quotes from Penrith & Pascoe confirming…. what?

It sounds like one of their reports .youve gotta stop reading them
Your starting to sound weird
