2019 Coaching saga -Thread

There is a huge difference between JT and Ivan…Ivan has done a lot more in 12 months at this club than JT could do in 12 years...

Ivan may be a better coach, but the results are the same: Got us to 9th, then everything went pear-shaped.

ROFL.

I take heart though that were a clear nine this year. No other team is really near us below. Also a gap above.
We can go 9 -> 8

I think the knights and the cowboys will go past us next year. I can't see who we go past though.

The longer this goes on the more chance of them turning their attention to Maguire.

Starting to feel Bennett has used us to get his name in the paper. He will ride out his last year with a good squad and walk in to the Parra job or something.

Bingo, Bennett is getting his name in the paper but ROFL. Bennett is NOT going to Parra.
Parra has had a board that killed coaches, players and the team. Brad Arthur is a fan and has nuts of brass to hang around.
Parra is worse then Manly and not much has changed. If you are Bennett you will take one look and go NOPE. More likely to say yes to Penrith and Phil Gould, at least you only have to deal with one psychopath.

So of the teams looking for coaches. Wayne has options north of the border.
Gold Coast
Cowboys

He had a past history with the Cowboys where Gordon Tallis got him knocked back as the new coach!
Gold coast has been mentioned, he did not want to push John Cartright out. But he could take the new coach under his wing like he did at Newcastle.
More to the point, Wayne has 3 disabled sons. He is not leaving Queensland unless he has too. The Gold coast offers him the best transport option back to Brisbane and his family,

And 8th was clearly better than 9th , 3 wins better

Has there been a bigger divide between 8th and 9th in the NRL history ??

Or 8th to 10th for that matter ??

It didn’t worry him about leaving his family when he went to Sydney and Newcastle.
And his best is behind him ,
Without a constant supply of players from the Qld pool he comes back to the field.,
While the Broncos net isn’t quite what it used to be, it’s still above what most clubs can only drool over.

Im all for strong opinions so ill let you have that one.

Unless you have inside information however i would not be ruling out him coming to Sydney or to a struggling club. He gains absolutely nothing to his reputation by staying in QLD. He wants to make a noise, no one will care what he does at another QLD club.

One thing seems to be certain in all this: Cleary is gone for 2019…..its just a question of who is going to replace him....

Other than what a few jurnos are saying in the media, there has not been one concrete piece of evidence that Cleary is going anywhere in 2019.

Okay you would think his position with us is dead, but I still think it’s a chance he will be around for at least one more year, but who knows, the clubs in lockdown at present

Why does Wayne wanna get his name in the paper?
He's quite anti-media from what I know.

All parties are keeping their cards close to their chests… As someone mentioned maybe once the internationals are done well know more.

Im tending to lean more Madge way, hope we get him... Wouldn't mind Bennett nor wouldn't be surprised to see Ivan stay

Every day that passes its becoming more and more likely that Ivan will be here in 2019\. Maybe that is why the club has stayed silent. There's nothing to say.

Ya kiddin' aren'tya? The situation actually being the way Ivan and the club say it is. Where's the conspiracy? I want my money back!

Isn't Ivan in Bali with his family? Unlikely we will hear anything until he is back.

Don't think the club would care too much about Ivan's wishes here. But there is some co-ordination needed between clubs.

I actually don't believe the silence predicts either direction for Ivan.

I would expect that the consistent and widespread media noise about Penrith making an offer to Ivan tells you that's probably true. There's a point where media speculation coalesces and all the outlets start to have roughly the same message, at which time you normally get an exclusive followed by a formal club announcement.

Right now the deal of Ivan to Penrith can only be from 2021 onwards, so if Ivan had accepted and Penrith were happy, the Panthers would have made an announcement already. If Ivan had knocked them back, Penrith probably would have made a statement confirming Ciraldo will be their head coach 2019 - has this happened? (I don't keep up with Panthers press releases).

I therefore believe lack of announcement for Penrith means an offer has been made, but the details aren't finalised because they are dependent on Tigers, and Tigers are working out their conditions of release.

Lack of announcement from Tigers does mean there is nothing to say - but that could mean no change or changes pending finalisation. It's only been a few weeks since the season ended for all the clubs concerned and Broncos announced they were not renewing Bennett, so likely Tigers are considering their options before they make the decision on Ivan. I would suspect that if Ivan was 100% definite to be coach in 2019, Tigers would have released a press statement by now, just ahead of the pre-season. They are clearly in press statement mode given the announcements about roster and development players.

So my personal take is that Penrith have probably made a deal, Tigers are open to negotiations, but it's all hinging on Tigers making a deal with a new coach (something that requires due diligence and time) and Penrith compensating Tigers in some form. Ivan being on holiday suggests his involvement is done, i.e. both clubs already know his position and are working out the details between themselves.

I would not be surprised at all if part of the deal means Tigers make the first announcement, followed rapidly by Penrith announcing the move of Cleary to Penrith for 2019, likely before end of October.

Really? I'm thinking the other way. I was totally unconvinced by all the Ivan to Penrith stories until it was reported by more than one journalist that he'd signed for them from 2021\. From that point Ivan's short-term future at WT was terminal. I think he's been released for 2019 and we are looking to sign Maguire, Bennett or someone with good credentials. Personally I hope it's Bennett but can live with Maguire.
One of us will be right and, nothing personal, but I hope it's not you because I've lost respect for and confidence in Ivan. Time will tell.

I think it's the total opposite. I think he's a million to one to be here next year.
