Thanks for not quoting me.

As i knew you would.

Just thinking that If we choose Bennett and we’re at odd as to coach fir next year, it would be logical for Bennet to send one of his assistants OR person who he would already have in mind for his assistant in 2020 ….... to set things up. It would be a perfect arrangement to have things in place, all players assessed etc. for him to hit the ground running.
Makes sense to me!

Geo's got a point. Wouldn't the Broncs be concerned that Bennett stays for a year then comes to us possibly taking certain players with him (TPJ for example) - and what about their issues of recruitment for 2020?? By signing Bennett for 2020 aren't we sort of doing to the Broncos just what the Panthers are doing to us - painting us into a corner that makes keeping our coach untenable??
The difference might be that Bennett actually wants to stay at the Broncos and most of the fans and players probably want him to stay as well!

Different scenario the Broncos don’t want Wayne. They just don’t want to be seen pushing him out whilst contracted or paying him out. They know the dangers TPJ and Oates are both switching to Wayne’s manager. Bellamy is managed by the same manager hence he outplayed them in this war at the broncos. TPJ and Oates will follow Wayne out the door I believe others may follow.

I agree with TigerSJ, surely the Broncos must be wary of Bennett having another 12 months to sure up his position and then take players with him to Tigers.

Starting in 2019 is one thing - he's got limited time and limited off-contract players to influence; Tigers have spent a lot of their money already. But starting in 2020, you are giving the bloke 12 months to both do his best, which I am sure he would do, but then start planning for his Tigers gig. Craig Bellamy has never moved clubs, so apart from him, I cannot see any coach having the same player-attracting power as Bennett does.

And me. Not sure if he has anyone in his entourage outside the Broncos system but that would almost give us the best of both worlds.

TYGA could you please inform us of what the hell is going on or anyone because us tigers fans are fed up with whats been happening to our club and its getting really frustrating. If u do have anymore info could u let us know cos us fans are clueless as to whats going on because the club doent wants to inform its members of anything that's going on. Thanks and sorry if that came across as harsh. :sign:

the only thing that is harsh, is the silence coming from management.

I don't get you blokes. Whether or not Tigers management tells you/us as fans anything has ZERO bearing on the actual outcome.

If Tigers were to make a public comment tomorrow that they are considering Madge 2019 or Bennett 2020, and they are never going to make such a comment, but where does that get you? Tigers clearly haven't made a decision otherwise you'd have heard about it.

Forget the impatient fans, I'd be more worried as a club about the pre-season and the players preparation.

I don't want Tigers making any public comments until there's something firm to say. Last time Tigers made a comment about the coaching situation - Pascoe and Ivan both - half the fans jumped down their throats they they weren't decisive or conclusive enough.

Take a chill pill, let the professionals take care of it and rest assured that the minute they've got something concrete to say, they'll make an announcement.

I’ve been told Cleary will be gone this week and a new coach announced. Mate of mine is a player manager and a very good one requested the club to clear its position last week. They are after Wayne. I think they will settle with Madge but it’s just a guess.

He told me Teddy and Woods signed with the Dogs ages ago and I posted it some people thought I was bonkers but it came out to be true at the time but things change.

Cheers mate, but there are still some who beleive this is all a beat up, and Ivan will be here next year

I’ve long been a Cleary fan and if this scenario didn’t play out would have liked him to stay long term. It’s simply untenable under any circumstances. He has gone behind the board, CEO and GMs back. Trust is broken blind Freddy could see he has to be moved on.

I was a Cleary fan too, but I can see he can not coach here in 2019 under any cicumstances, so we need a coach for 2019, so we tell Bennett to come in 2019 or we sign Maguire who will, who knows what could happen next year if bennett stays at the Bronco's, we need a coach now.

If we sign Madge, Bennett might not have an options in 2020, and that might force his hand a bit.

I'm all for signing Bennett for 2019 and hope it happens but if we were only able to get him in 2020 isn't that the same as the riff signing Cleary for 2021 when he is off contract…

Just asking...

Na, it's very different Geo. Wayne's club is happy for him to go elsewhere, as he isn't steering a re-build, whereas Ivan sold a dream and is then jumping ship just as it is starting, dogging the club, players and fans.

Cleary is signing 'after' his contract, to eact as leverage to break his contract early, trying to force them. We are (maybe) looking at signing Benneseett for a year out, maybe asking if he can come early but not trying to force them into releasing him.

Good post…I see the difference.....but believe we want Unca for 2019 so it's sorta the same ...he would be breaking his contact with them...I guess because the Broncos have said they don't want Bennett after next year whereas we apparently want Cleary adds the perception..

You're quite right. I misread the comment as an original post rather than a response to other comments. I though it was a general spray at all of us for speculating on Cleary, Madge and Bennett. My apologies to Jirskyr.

Bennett for me either 2020 or preferably 2019.
But suppose I can also live with Maguire.
Just get it done to stop this never ending story ….. please.
Oh and yes, like most, I was a fan of Cleary and what he brought to the club but very disappointed how he played this out.
In the end bad karma catches up with people and he will ultimately regret what he has done. Burt down his reputation for what? To coach his son and work for a man who sacked him. Really? WOW! Unbelievable!

Nailed it!

I had been happy enough to allow the club to restructure and get over our intense long term salary cap issues, so stood by our coaches struggling in such an environment to keep us in touch with their competitors. That ended April 2017 when a coaching change was made and which could progress in a very much improved environment, management, squad and cap wise.

We missed the finals once again and in the circumstances, particularly late in the season, I lay a good portion of that squarely at Ivan's feet. I have always been angry at his courting Penrith, well at least since being left without doubt following his pitiful statement, and until very recently would have been happy to keep him if he had just come out and showed some real passion and commitment, even if extremely belatedly, to show us he wanted to stick around.

No more, Mr Cleary, you have well and truly had your chance, so I now want you out of here, regardless of posturing and positioning for potential coaches. I think he failed us this year and I had already had enough of not playing finals footy, or even worse, not having a chance to make them in the closing couple of weeks, so I definitely don't want to tread water in 2019 with any form of caretaker coach.

I strongly suggest you two give each other a wide berth if you can't handle one another's opinion - if you don't agree with it, either debate it rationally or not at all - it's that simple.

Agree basically with all that, but the club needed to be a little clearer in regard to conversations with Ivan in the initial days of this situation. This did have a bearing on the thoughts of many members for a long time.

I just don’t get it.
What do members of the forum what a statement like this below.

Hi we at the Wests Tigers are currently in negotiations with Wayne Bennett and Michel Maguire to take over the role of head coach at the Wests Tigers.
Nothing has been finalised yet but we just want to get some rumours out in the public domain, so the journalists can sully out name and reputation a bit more.
We have told Ivan Cleary that he will be sacked as head coach today.
We don’t have anything concrete in place just yet but we thought that we should disclose all the clubs private negotiations to keep the public happy.

Cheers Justin Pascoe
