Im waiting for Ivan to return from his holiday….and says to the WTs 'Im staying,Im honouring my contract'

A supercomputer somewhere in the world just burst into flames trying to calculate the odds of that happening.

He’s already said that, to the players,

If he had said it even half as conclusively as the words of TT above convey and a few days earlier, little doubt that there would have been a lot less, if any conjecture in the initial weeks post statement.

You would think that Madge would be on the shortlist for Broncos and as he rejected Manly and is still unsigned for 2019 maybe that is the best chance for Bennett coming to us in 2019\. Madge to Broncos, Bennett to Wests and Cleary to Penrith in 2019.

Also, I read somewhere on the forum that West Tigers management preferred Bennett but Wests Ashfield preferred Madge. You would think that Wests Ashfield would have a big influence on the coaching decision given they basically own West Tigers.

Let's hope the Wests Ashfield mail is wrong.

It would be ridiculous to sign Maguire over Bennett under any circumstances.

A club that has made the finals 3 times in 18 seasons needs a shift in culture. Bennett brings that.

I think we have all got used to WT board/management making horrendous decisions so if we brush Bennett it would be extremely disappointing but would not at all surprise.

If Bennett publically announces he is Tigers bound in 2020 it is an absolute certainty Broncos will clean out his desk immediately.

Can't see how Bennett signing with WT or another club will make any difference Mario, as the donkeys have already told him that he won't be there in 2020.

i feel like i've missed something here btw

has cleary already signed for penrith in 2021? has there been a confirmation about it?

Not officially, but the media seems pretty consistent/insistent that it is happening.

I assume Penrith are waiting for final confirmation whether or not Tigers would release Ivan early. No need to to rush an announcement for 2021 and it then forces Panthers to make a comment about Ciraldo and his future, which potentially Penrith haven't finalised yet (i.e. precisely who will be coaching Penrith in 2019-2020).

Penrith don't want to come out and announce Ivan, the announce some grand plan for an interim coach with Ivan taking over 2021, then revise the second statement that Ivan's coming straight away (and bad luck to whomever the interim coach was to be).

lmao

so there's actually nothing official yet?

i doubt penrith would sign cleary for "2021" - there's way too many variables before that.
i can't believe all this drama is without anything official

They don't want Bennett. if they did they'd have offered him a new contract. When Brisbane announced last month the '2019 will be Bennett's last year" they surely must have considered the likelihood that Wayne would throw his toys out of the cot and walk immediately- and they must be ok with that position. They just don't want to have to pay out Bennett's contract. If he can get a gig elsewhere for '19 then they get their wish (bennett going without it costing them anything)

If the Broncos are sure they don't want him post 2019 then they are not going to stand in his way if he can get a deal for himself elsewhere.

What do we put the Bennet <> Newcastle disaster down to???

He like Hassler has the propensity to wreak havoc to a salary cap.

Im cautious of Bennet though he is a man that would theoretically continue the culture change we need on the park

Cleary is smart enough not to walk.

Here is an idea.
Sign Bennett for 2020 and get Sheens back with Benji and Robbie and let's have a rubbish year of reminiscing over that glorious day a decade and a half ago.
Sell some old Jerseys and Benji do a signature flick pass every game.

It's all we have so let's just cut loose one last time season with some Sheens magic.
I think it would be great.

When I thought he had some integrity I would have said Cleary wouldn't do that but we know that bird has flown. If I was WT and he does decide to play hardball I would:
a) appoint a coach for 2019 and beyond as they appear to be doing
b) call the new coach head of football operations or something else but they would be the coach
c) give Cleary no role with the team at all, effectively sidelining him.
The downside is we'd have to keep paying him but the upside is Cleary sits virtually idle for two years. I can't imagine that would please Cleary or Penrith and he'd be much more likely to seek a release to go to Penrith. If he does WT would not be liable for a payout.

There was a fair bit on Benji in this try from the weekend

Whatever happens, WTs must not pay any form of compensation to Cleary under any circumstances. I hope that the hold up regarding any announcements is due to management working out the best financial outcome for us. The Panthers have completely derailed our rebuild under Cleary and I'd be livid if we paid any compensation for him to go and give Gould and the Clearys what they want.

We have the time to sit around and dissect every syllable that’s said during any of our perceived disasters,
Sometimes other people don’t say the things that we want them too, but no matter what they say, there’d be some here , that will always complain that the announcement/ statement isn’t what they want to hear,
We don’t matter, and Coaches/Clubs/Players, all at some times puts out press releases that mean Bugger All.
And even if their releases are 100% accurate, someone is bound to misunderstand, , or. object to , or simply fail to understand what some of the wording means
They can’t please us all ….....

I'm all for signing Bennett for 2019 and hope it happens but if we were only able to get him in 2020 isn't that the same as the riff signing Cleary for 2021 when he is off contract…

Just asking...

Na, it's very different Geo. Wayne's club is happy for him to go elsewhere, as he isn't steering a re-build, whereas Ivan sold a dream and is then jumping ship just as it is starting, dogging the club, players and fans.

Cleary is signing 'after' his contract, to eact as leverage to break his contract early, trying to force them. We are (maybe) looking at signing Benneseett for a year out, maybe asking if he can come early but not trying to force them into releasing him.

Good post…I see the difference.....but believe we want Unca for 2019 so it's sorta the same ...he would be breaking his contact with them...I guess because the Broncos have said they don't want Bennett after next year whereas we apparently want Cleary adds the perception..

Yeah, nah!

Even if we could do that, we waste enough money on players, why would we want to waste money on two Coaches
