So we still don't know..what have people been babbling about…

We know

We got the LCD

Lowest Common Denominator

Who we least wanted

Excited by the draw , brought back to earth with the coach , the life of a WT's supporter

I’m very happy with Madge. Won in England , won in Australia, what’s upsetting about hiring a dual premiership coach.

Good result for us
Potentially good result for Brisbane
Poor result for Souths

Last time we signed a premiership winning coach it worked out.

Bennett has had his day.

Seibold has had a great start to his career but it's a risk still.

I prefer McGuire for a host of reasons but your contention that Bennett has 'had his day' is a stereotypical response based on age. In 2018 that no longer applies. Bennett's strength is not his technical knowledge but his ability to connect and to form relationships with players and their families. This is particularly important with the Polynesian boys, based on their family values and the importance they place on faith. In addition Bennett would have forgotten more about the game than most coaches know. He may be post pension but he's a smart operator and there's not many of those in RL

No it's not a stereotypical response and your characterisation of my assessment as being based solely on age is wrong and frankly offensive. Couldn't care if he's 95\. I just think it's hard to stay on trend in coaching for approaching your 5th decade coaching first grade. I'm sure Brisbane have reached a similar conclusion..

Feel Bennett would be a very motivated coach after this and his new women. But Maguire really worked hard during his last season at South's to make small adjustments to suit rule changes and with our squad and current playing style he could fit right in here. Let's hope so.
As for Cleary I think he feels ok about our club but this debacle was areal failure and must admit when the story broke whilst we were still in contention I lost interest. In the end our club handled this pretty good.

How did Wayne go at Newcastle without the might of Brisbane behind him? How many premierships did Brian smith win?

At the end of the day no one really knows and you might be right , but I think they got the best man on the market.

What is there to destroy? We are rock bottom already. Lost our best juniors, a coach sacked and one who jumped in quick succession & haven’t played finals for yonks.

Seriously some people just can’t be pleased.

Madge has an extremely positive CV and is coaching an international team that beat the Aussies let alone has worked with the refs as well. We are lucky to have someome with his depth of experience and winning qualities leading our team over a rookie coach.

Pascoe gets an a+ from me considering the circumstances.

I think Wayne got the Knights to within 1 game of a Grand Final in his 2nd year there after they had done nothing for years before or since..

We can only dream..

A+ for the 5th best coach …..that will do me

So Teflon Pascoe avoids any flak , even though he was solely behind getting the coach that has set us back beyond where many claimed Taylor /Potter /Mayer left us

Did the club even seriously consider Toovey ....was he even spoken to .......

Didn't even realise there was another forum page til I read a comment about it a week or so ago. So if anyone still doesn't feel confident about the possible signing of Maguire, I suggest you check out the Panthers forum re: their panicked thoughts on the Clearys. https://forums.leagueunlimited.com/threads/rumoured-and-confirmed-signings-part-4.455990/page-704
Also found the kennel(I think its called)and I thought we were a salty bunch over Teddy. But those guys sound absolutely vengeful about Mbye. Saw that a tiger fan named Tacky is a regular stirrer there too.

Must say I'm stoked we were even being mentioned with Bennett and Maguire, so to land Madge would be great, at least we'd be moving forward. Would be even better if we release some dead weight and sign another one or two quality players.

Edit: I know its not going to help your confidence but it felt good to me, to get a laugh out of Panthers fans having meltdowns already.

Tacky does a good job of stirring up the kennel

Any coach who turns down Manly is our kind of coach…

Interesting one that.
I’d say our facilities are terrible, worse than manly.
Roster at manly would suit Madge more.

Don’t really get it.

His decision not to coach Manly was probably more about having the spectre of Bob Fulton hanging over his head - much like Gould at Penrith, thankfully we have no such bozos trying to control things here.

The Tigers are in the process of finalising the release of Ivan Cleary before they can put pen to paper with Maguire.

We are a long way away from April 1st

Cya Cleary. Go hang with Gould and be told what to do.

After all its all about money.

Something about a bus….

Happy is upset and questioning whether we spoke to Toovey? He’s manly why on earth would we want him here… JT repeat written all over it.

Happy by name but not by nature

Test series between England and New Zealand finishes on the 11th of November. With our preseason starting on the 15th of November. Don't think madge will be there for day one of training. I'd say we would have his support staff in place for day one of preseason.

Who are they…you can't just sack the current ones for no reason...

Disappointed about Bennett, but that was really only ever going to be a short term arrangement if it had come to fruition. Madge hopefully coaches us for a decade. Good pick up. Credit to Pascoe.

This is a very disappointing outcome. I have to say I expected more from our Board.

Really? What did you expect? If Moses won’t do come down from the mountain what the hell are supposed to do?
We got a best coach currently available to start in 2 weeks. Duh!!

I expected our Board to demonstrate more vision towards the future by signing O'Brien or the Broncs assistant if Bennett didn't want to come. To me, Maguire is yesterday's man and the strong sense is the Board grabbed a name, any name even if it isn't a particularly good one in an overreaction to the potential loss of Cleary.

Maguire now not only has a huge task ahead of him to prove he isn't yesterday's man but also to recruit high calibre players to the club.
