NRL Squad for this weekends trial

Tyronne Roberts-Davis, Zac Cini, Reece Hoffman, Tommy Talau, Allan Fitzgibbon, Daine Laurie, Jock Madden, Alex Seyfarth, Jake Simpkin, Stefano Utoikamanu, Michael Chee Kam, Kelma Tuilagi, Tuki Simpkins, Jacob Liddle, Kiah Cooper, Tyler Field, Ky Rodwell, Zach Dockar-Clay, Edenn Rogers-Smith, Iverson Fuatimau, Joe Taipari, William Kei, Logen Dillon, Israel Ogden, Curtis Wilson, Liam Scolari, Austin Dias, Regan Hughes, Semisi Kioa, Etuale Lui, Mavoni Tuifua, Daniel Sykes, Billy Stapelton

Thanks for the list. I wonder how many will get a run, and for how long? It looks like the credits after a movie.

Apparently the first 13 players on the list , are the starting team ie. Roberts - Davis is playing fullback through to Tui Simpkins at lock .

Backup FB is my concern, and i think they want to see how Davis goes. We need cover for this position.

We have Laurie and Mbye.

Laurie at FB, mbye not capable last year at 1 . Good utility and hope he gets his form back. We need someone capable in case of injuries or suspension to Laurie. Fullback is where we suffered badly last year.

Disagree, he is a good fullback if he can get his issues under the highball under control.

Mbye is a talent when he wants to be. He is nearing the end of his contract and has been shopped around for 2 yrs. I expect a big year from him this year, but his future is uncertain. 1,6,7and 9 are crucial , and we have backup for 6,7, and 9. Last year we had Momo,Mbye, and Doeihie, who not only did not gain ground on kick returns, but gave little assistance to the halves either through the ruck or on the edges.None of them were good in this position.

Dude you do this all the time . Leave out facts to suit your arguement . Does Daine Laurie not exist ?

? Mbye , Laurie , AD , AJ .... that’s literally the pecking order as I see it . How many do you want ? It’s 1 position . A really important one , for sure , but still 1 position .

I was worried about our depth at fullback and 5/8th but Laurie coming across has really turned that into a strength. 13 is the position that needs strengthening over the next 12 months now.

Tukimihia Simpkin playing lock in the trial despite being a second rower at cowboys. Maybe they want to turn him into a lock for the future

A backrow of Tui, Blore , Luci ? Maybe that’s the plan , if they develop well enough . He came from Union , and 13 at times can be siimilar to number 8 and , the way some teams use thier flankers . Maybe it’s a more familiar role , rather than the hole running edge forward. That’s way more like an outside centre , in Union .

I have to admit I have never seen Simpkin play so maybe he is a possibility at lock.

Don't think Simpkin will play lock..hooker or nothing..

Doueihi and Momo are both not fullbacks, Mbyes best position is fullback. He is almost the archetype of the fullback from the last 15 years when sweep/ block plays dominated the game, his issues were underneath the high ball. We have also signed Laurie who is a fullback. It is 2021 not 2020.

Thanks for the correction mate, I thought Simpkin was the hooker and Simpkins was the lock, but someone had posted it the other way earlier and I thought I must have been wrong.

I should remember that the only time I am wrong is when I believe someone else is right lol.

On another note . I know it’s just trials , and they’re fielding thier reserves , but at the very least the dragons lack real depth , and dare I say it, quality . I don’t see where the lineup change , is coming from the get them higher up the ladder . They really benefitted at the end of last year from teams clocking off at the end of the season . They are garbage , have recruited poorly and thier depth looks tigers 2018 levels bad . I’m going to put 100 on them for the spoon I think.
I watched last week and tonight , both games have a had good chunk of thier 30 man participating.

What happened to Madison Johns who went in last years trials at

Cooper is a centre with a good left foot step, can't comment beyond that. Johns was trying to join NSW Police...

Is it right to assume that the team will be running out as ordered above??

E.G. Laurie in 6 and Simpkin at 9, Liddle at 14 etc. I know they aren’t numbered but they do seem to be systematically organised by position 1-13.

Interesting to see AJ not in the team whilst eligible, especially with Talau named. Don’t want to read to much into it but makes me wonder if maybe AJ is rated above TT and hence is being saved for starting 13 next weekend...

EDIT - others already picked up on this while I was writing I see now

Expect changes

Sloane, and Sullivan for them will be extremely good for them in the future but they are atleast 2 years off cracking it full time IMO. Also notice the difference in some of the size of their kids to ours. They look atleast 80kgs dripping wet, meanwhile our kids look like man mountains

It’s very hard to see where the dragons will improve next year, 2021 Jack Bird and a broken Andrew Macca are not the answer

That's a good point, much easier for him to play lock than second row as a rugby convert who hasn't played much league. He's a big body but I'm interested to see how mobile he is - apparently he's sat down some of the boys at training which is promising

He might hit like a truck . With a decent motor. He’d played flanker in Union , which means a whole lot of work getting from breakdown to breakdown . Look I could be way off the mark here , but the logic seems pretty sound .

Agree. They way the lock has most recently evolved in league (Victor Radley, Cameron Murray’s) is very similar to an open side breakaway in union.. Need to be faster than the middle forwards.
In defence they need to Get to the ruck fast and plug up any looming holes either side of the ruck.
In attack, be more agile than the middle forwards and change angles so the defence doesn’t have as much time to reset.

Yep . But that’s at least 2 years away. Our juniors look massive compared to them .

Looking forward to seeing how Tyler Field goes as there were some raps about him as a gun schoolboy at 5/8 and also William Kei.
Also big fan of Ky Rodwell at Prop. Hoping he plays well to get a contract.

Means nought but they’ll be wearing Rorters jerseys so I’ll be tuning in hopeful of a cricket score.

Dudes like Allan Fitz, Roberts Davies and Rodwell will be playing for a contract so will be very interesting to watch. Can’t wait

HEY DUDE, we were talking backup! You are just looking for an aurgument as usual. CHILL OUT.

Pumped to see how our young guns go!
Got a good feeling about Reece Hoffman for some reason.

All the young guns now a year older and working with the top side. I hope Reece and all the kids go well, it's the Tigers future.

Not a bad starting 13 IMO!! Any idea on how long each player will be on the field?

23 mins 45 seconds each

Those picked in the first 17 should give us a reasonable indication where they are at having trained together for a decent period of time. Hard to see the benefit of throwing everyone else in (effectively almost another 17), a hotchpotch of JF, some CC players & other randoms who haven’t played for 12 months.

Last year we saw these players trying to impress, going themselves when they should have passed it, every man for himself etc - the sort of thing this trial encourages.

I think they should just pick their best 17 and let JF players play a full game beforehand. To say they are getting an NRL experience against an opposition of pretty much fringe players will hardly give that much upside.

Most will be lucky to get 15 minutes.
