2024 Pre-Season

Declan Casey & Heath Mason are two from the T&T squad to make the trip to NZ with the Top 30 & Dev players. Might give us an indication who of the T&Ts has impressed during the pre-season.

That is interesting. Only 2 players outside our Top Squad (supplementary players included) are heading to the first trial.
This round a lot of teams play a nsw cup team or even a tier below.

Last year vs the Warriors, Bula for instance played and wasn’t on a Development deal at that stage.

Apparently Chris Faagutu did not make the trip to NZ with the rest of the team cos he picked up a shoulder injury couple weeks ago. Apparently stayed to rehab the shoulder to push for selection in the 2nd trial

Do you think could he be used anywhere else? Or will his size limit him to 1 or 6 for this year?

he’s only ever played 1 or 6 thru Junior Reps but at the Schoolboys tournament he played a bit of 9 and 13 as well, so there is a chance he could kick on and become the specialist utility many teams run with these days.

he’s a bit like Connor Watson for mine. lightning quick, versatile and a body shape that holds up for most positions. gotta feel for the kid that Bula came from the clouds, he was 12 months too late. I hope we keep him long term but given the dearth of quality halves across the game I think we may lose him in time.

Poor recruitment
Over confidence in club juniors

We failed to leverage 05 and build a powerhouse club around them. It was decided by the powers above that we already had the cattle to form this dynasty. They were wrong.

If memory serves me right, Benji was injured for long periods between 06-09 too.

Usually excited for the start of the season, and this Las Vegas venture should really set it off with a bang (even if the sceptics don’t have a clue what they’re watching). I don’t know, maybe it was that lacklustre performance against the fellow wooden spoon contenders as a preview to our season ahead, but I’m just not feeling it ATM 😕.
