Bateman being left out isn’t the big story, he is at the end of his career.
Welsby, the Pommie version of Billy Slater is.
They are copping a huge reality check ahead of the World Cup. Losing that semi to Samoa in the last WC was embarrassing as that Samoan side was not that good. The Samoan team now is far better.
It is possible we have a WC semi final that does not feature England.
That will be very bad for the international game.

No it’s not our fault. We’ve had lots of players defect from our squad and we are still likely favourites to win the WC.
The rest need to get their shit together.
