Newcastle's errors in the first half took them out of the equation. Far too much possession to the chooks and it took it out of the Knights. Young and Marzhew did not put in GF performances.
And the 2 stupid short drop outs straight to Tupou’s wing, both of which led to good field position and eventual tries to the Roosters.

I can’t believe no one has mentioned this! If Ponga kicks long on even one of those occasions, the Roosters don’t score. It was an idiotic thing to do, imo, especially twice!

and yet we continue to do it on a regular basis.

YES, we are idiots.

If you can't back your winger to take a short drop out then what's he taking the field for? It's pretty basic prerequisite now for wingers to be able to compete for short drop outs.

Tupou is 6ft 5” and renowned for out leaping all comers to take a high ball. I still feel it was a stupid decision to go short, especially twice, and it was a decision that cost them the game, imo.

Flip is correct.
The short drop outs were beyond stupid when the opposition possessed the two best leaping wingers in the game.

Young and Marzhew were well off the pace despite that.

The scoreline really flattered Newcastle given how in control of the game Easts looked to be.
