Cameron Munster and the Storm surprised nobody when they got on the front foot in grand final week with the usual sob story that Melbourne doesn’t get a fair go with Sydneysiders.
That might be because few sides have polarised fans since 1908 like the Purple Wrestling Cult from south of the border.
Here are 25 reasons why plenty of league fans can’t cop them.

1. The salary cap cheating.

2. Still claiming no one knew anything about the rorts apart from fall-guy ex-AFL club CEO Brian Waldron.

13. Because it’s always a Sydney-agenda whenever anyone dares express an opinion about the Storm’s grubby tactics.

16. Smith’s testimonial at least three seasons before he retired.

19. For ostracising club legend Cooper Cronk for daring to leave the purple cult.

20. Robbing Nathan Hindmarsh of a grand final ring in 2009.

21. Because like the wack-job religious cult of Scientology, anyone who doesn’t worship at the Storm alter is immediately excommunicated. For life.

22. Because most Victorians still refer to rugby league as “the rugby”.

23. Because there is nothing rugby league about sipping on a latte in a laneway bar wearing a turtleneck skivvy.

24. For pioneering Billy Slater’s now banned Bend It like David Beckham slide tackle to save a try.

25. Because even if you do worship at the Storm altar the only yarns you’re allowed to tell are stories which paint Melbourne as the greatest sporting organisation in history.

Hooper is the worst journo ever. He’s stretched two or three things into 25 separate points 😂

Hooper struggled on NRL 360 tonight telling this story. He mentioned the salary cap scandal then completely froze when he couldn’t think of any other of the 24 points. Later in the show he stated that Mitch Kenny and Tyrone May would start in the centres on Sunday... As much as we love hassling him, I must admit I felt for him tonight.

I admire Bellamy, Slater, Smith Papenhuyzen and their other big names. Bellamy has been so good for so long and his players just keep improving. We need to hit and exceed the Storm benchmark. Interesting issue is, I bet Bellamy would love to get his hands on Talau, Kei, Risk, Scolari and turn them into top flight players. We have homework to do the same.

We can only dream of Storm's sucess. Bellamy is the greatest coach and record speaks for itself. Storm to win this Sunday. Believe they will go out hard to unsettle Penrith. Great front runners. Storm are great to watch especially when Papps and JAC have ball in hand.

Yep. For some reason I've always disliked that guy. Probably had a lot to do with his sulking about 2005 saying the best two teams weren't in the GF (Parra and Saints I assume he meant.)

It was hilarious after the GF, and it was even funnier after the cap cheating how many Parra fans felt entitled to the premiership, despite forgetting that Melbourne beat teams to get there who should have faced off against them.

They came into the comp a few years before us in AFL heartland and have become the most successful team in the league.

And unlike other clubs, they develop their own talent, make the most of rejects from other clubs and even let some of their better players go when need be (e.g Inglis, Folau).

The fact that they're in the grand final with Papenhuyzen at fullback while we cry into our beer at a record run of not making the finals says it all.
