2DAY FM prank call

Sad to hear the news the nurse at the center of this has suicided. …but this has angered me, if anyones at fault imo its the nurse---yet its a total over reaction to what was meant to be a bit of fun
Now those that remain - radio hosts and Kate & William have to carry this with them for life, due to the selfish thin skinned reaction of the nurse (if in fact the suicide was entirely due to the prank call) we dont know what else was going on with her

The prank was simply that, a prank… The UK Press is very unforgiving and the pressure from the local media/papparazi would most likely of been the reason this lady felt this was her only option. I dont feel the 2Day Hosts are responsible, but now will surely wear a big burden of this scenario.

Either way, its a very sad story now and you have to feel for the family of the lady.

Sorry Guys

I've never understood why people have to make prank calls? At best they don't achieve anything other than to embarrass the victim and at worst they have this type of reaction.

I've seen pranks go horribly wrong and both the 'prankers' and the 'prankees' get seriously hurt.

This is just another example.

There was an incident a couple of years ago where a Sydney radio station rang one of the top ranking students in the HSC to tell her there had been a mistake in her mark. She had a nervous breakdown.

In my humble opinion the radio hosts in this example are oxygen thiefs and should have the rest of their lives to ponder the cracking joke they played!

And how many end up as the humourous episode its intended to be?
The majority I'd guess

Pretty sad state of affairs these days when we gotta stop, think, take stock of the situation before we tell a group of mates a joke for fear of someone being upset or offended

I think if the hospital had followed proper procedure….we wouldnt be at this stage
I know I wouldnt be too impressed with my doctor giving out personal info over the phone to anyone who happened to call without verifying their ID

2 Day are getting hammered, when its the hospital/nurse that stuffed up

Don't really know what to think…...just that it is so so sad..

I would imagine that William and Kate would be feeling pretty upset about the whole situation, should have been one of the happiest moments if their lives.....just hope things don't get worse

But this isn't a case of telling a joke to a group of mates. This is making a complete stranger the butt of your jokes and making that stranger aware that you are doing so. How someone can do this and have no feelings for what that person is going through is horrible.

I wonder how shows like Candid Camera and Funniest Home Videos rate so highly?

It wasnt horrible….it was a harmless joke that someone took to extreme lengths

Oh so blame the victim. 2 Day should get hammered. The trouble is this wasn't a "mate" that the practical joke was played on, the perpetrators had no prior knowledge or insight into this person. They crossed the line big time all for the sake of a few rating points, great work. They need to ponder that error of judgement for the rest of their lives.

Yes this is the problem. People and the media carry on like the royals are God or something and are therefore untouchable, when they are actually just flesh and blood like the rest of us. When someone makes a mistake that concerns a member of the royal family, they are crucified - it's bloody ridiculous and a very sad indictment on society as a whole. I really hate the idolatry and worship of man.

I dont think that making someone the "laughing stock" of much of the world to be humorous when there was a possibility that they could lose there job over it.What eventuated was even more tragic.
The radio station concerned is known for allowing announcers to go beyond what is acceptable and really is to blame.

Regardless of how you look at this incident, 2DAYFM have an extremely seedy history with a reputation of sinking to the lowest common denominator to get a few ratings. Need anyone need reminding of the 14 yr old that the fat slob put on a lie detector to ask her about her sexual history? which turned into an admission about rape.

There have been other incidents that he and his blond bimbo of a co-host have been involved in that have been on the low end of the class spectrum but due to a tiring brain and quite a few JD's this evening, i can't think of any others

Yeh, I blame the ''victim''
It was a harmless joke….if she is so unbalanced and unstable to commit suicide she shouldnt be in that position....she should be in the nut house with a shrink....next time you tell a joke to a group of mates you better explain first what it will be all about so no one takes offense, then take a survey of your listeners, get some knowledge and insight into them so you know things will all end up fine once the ppunch lines delivered.

Just another case of PC gone mad

I want to know why no one is asking any questions of the hospital, was the nurse hammered by fellow staff/management over the prank and how badly? There's more going on surely.

When you listen to the prank, the way that the pranksters spoke during the call had red flags all over it. If the nurse was that naive to think that the Queen would call first hand is bad enough but to also think that Charles and her would talk so candidly like the way they did just blows me away. I think that she deserved any reprimanding that came her way. She should have passed the call onto someone higher up the totem pole than herself.

In saying that, like Ink said, you dont know what happened on the other side or if there were any other mitigating circumstances that would have contributed to her going over the edge. I think that if there were other factors involved, her family should come out and say something to put the DJ's, William and Kate's mind at ease.

Very sad, but at the end of the day it was just a prank that had tragic outcomes. Bloody PC

My thoughts are that this incident is the result of society's de-evolution with regards to what is deemed a news worthy entity.

By this I mean look at what the western world sees as important events….Taylor Swift's romances, Hollywood starlets drug and alcohol problems, Reality tv 'stars', touring boy bands......Kate Middleton being pregnant.

We are bombarded with this crap on a daily basis to the point that our news has become saturated with entertainment gossip. We are fed snippets of how world economies are operating in a 60 second market wrap and then are subjected to a 10 minute segment on which contestant got booted off dancing with the stars complete with interviews. They briefly mention the unrest in Egypt in a bulletin and then follow that with an indepth analysis of fashion week. They again breifly mention the tensions in the gulf followed by a panel discussing what sex Kate Middleton's baby will be.

It is pathetic.

The prank last week was poorly executed yet succeeded by fluke beyond even the hosts expectations. The nurse stuffed up and if she broke protocols then should have copped her kick up the arse and moved on. What eventuated however was the worlds "news" departments went into overdrive and the story headlined all coverage for an entire week. It wasnt that serious and even Prince Charles saw it as typical Aussie larakinism. I do feel for the nurse because she knew damned well that in England she would be outed and harrased by a relentless media fueling the publics thirst for ridiculous gossip. She would become a mini celebrity for having a lax in judgement and being fooled by a silly prank call. It was a huge story over nothing. In the end, possibly in her desperation she has taken the ultimate escape route. That is truly tragic if it is the reason for this action.

I dont blame the nurse, I dont blame the Royals, I dont blame the pranksters. I blame the worlds media and to an even greater extent I blame the mindless sheep of the world who thirst for this information on celebrities. I blame presenters such as those on the morning shows who ignore real news for this populist BS. Those that crave entertainment gossip and make people like Kardashian a star....these are the people that the media was catering to when making such a fuss over a womans pregnancy. The same selection of society who drive other celebrities to their ends through relentless gossip. I absolutely despise people like this and to me they have blood on their hands once again.

Couldn't agree more. That entire section of society should be exterminated and whatever ramains are left should be flushed down the toilet
