Even a 34 point halftime lead didn't seem safe midway through the second half. Not many teams lead by a margin like that and have to rely on a penalty goal to get far enough in front they can be run down.

You just knew it was coming

My mate text me at halftime and said "I hope you guys keep the cows to nil". I said "mate we are the worst front runners in the comp, we don't know how to put a team to the sword, we will be lucky to hang on and win".

Manly have shown us how far we are.
They lost 2 of their backs 5/8th (1st 10mins) and Center in the first half, plus some busted up players and had forwards playing center & making try savers on wingers - playing against the Raiders....

We have a long way to go. No excuses we need to be tougher judges on the team if we want the culture to change & play finals footy.

Manly showed today what true grit courage and mental toughness can achieve, no excuses oh we coped injuries we got bad calls .
Just a will to win by playing 80mins

We did win. With similar adversity to manly.

Nicely said Mighty

Do you think it would help having two dummy halves do you think grant not being up to the 80 has anything to do with it?

A centre and a five eighth inside the first 5 minutes, plus lost Tommy Turbo with about about 25 to play, that is where we need to be

I think where we are at is exactly where we've been the last twenty years (with the exception of three seasons). We're a middling team and we're going to finish anywhere between 7th and 12th, more likely out of the 8. We lack the mental fortitude to play competitively for 80 minutes and we let teams in through really stupid overplaying when we're just at the point of really killing the match. It just happens every match all year, besides some matches where we're just overmatched and get lapped.

I think this team is decent and the forwards are strong for the first time in a long time and Maguire deserves credit for that. But our defense is really good until it needs to be and our attacking game looks great when we aren't under pressure and neither of those aspects of the game will allow us to win important games. It's a mystery why we can't solve our mental frailties but I for one want Benji in the team because at least it's more entertaining when he's playing. I was feeling like I had egg on my face halfway through last night, until the second half happened and that was just the exact pattern of how tigers games go. Conceding 20 points in a half (and they were unlucky not to score more) against a cowboys team without Michael Morgan and Valentine Holmes is just woeful defense. They didn't lift their game, it was just classic tigers play: bad errors, soft edges, inability to create and build pressure.

Did our team make excuses?

Not a real comparison really ...Canberra would have put 60 on the Cows based on Saturday night

Doubt it. They are overrated.

Any win is a good win - from a fans perspective -as far as I am concerned at this point, and some are better than others. When all the rounds are done it wont matter how you win as long as you win enough games to make the finals.

I didnt watch it but if we played with 14 for 40 mins, then im not all that unhappy with the result.

I did watch and you have it right. Missing 2 for the entire half and 3 for most of it really sapped us and as others have said our left side was disrupted. The stats were incredible, massive disparity in possession and field position. We should have lost by 20.

I knew the result before I watched and was actually more happy with the second half after I watched. Our defence was still solid, we didnt let in easy tries and we hit hard and scrambled well. Overall a good step forward and a lesson for the boys. Im sure Madge will keep up the no excuses mantra, but I think it was OK tbh.

Canberra couldn't score against a 14 man Manly team..

In the first half, Reynolds dropped the ball cold from the kick off after our first try. We had to defend 3 sets on our line. Musgrove also dropped the ball on the first a few metres out from the try line and againwe had a long period of defence. The top teams like the Roosters will hammer home tries if this is repeated. We need to improve and be smarter.

I regularly see posts about dropped kick-offs... it doesn't stop Ben Hunt

The team showed last Saturday that it can be fairly sound defensively and, in addition, a couple of their tries were well constructed team efforts (as opposed to opportunistic or individual brilliance). I think that indicates some overall improvement.

The result in the second half was a bit disappointing but, as others here have said, not entirely unexpected given the weight of possession against us, the loss of key forwards to injury, the need to switch some positions and the overall fatigue from the continual defensive effort.

If we can eliminate some of the turnovers and penalties and retain a bit more possession, I think this team has what to takes to go up another level this year.

It's not all doom and gloom (yet).

Yeah agree on most part but I wonder how teams go playing for 60 minutes with 15 and then 14 especially given 2 middle forwards and a winger which caused a reshuffle…

I suppose we should ask Manly after yesterday's game.
