WESTS TIGERS coach Tim Sheens says star centre Chris Lawrence hasn't recovered from a concussion sustained in last Saturday night's loss to South Sydney and is one of three selected players yet to be cleared for Sunday's heavyweight showdown with Penrith at Campbelltown Sports Stadium.

The others in doubt are prop Keith Galloway, with a concussion also sustained against the Rabbitohs, and fullback Wade McKinnon, who was selected to make a return from a hamstring injury against Souths but still wasn't right.

''Chris is not well,'' Sheens said yesterday. ''I won't know whether he's playing until the doctor makes a final decision. It's a knock to the head and we're not going to know how well he has recovered until the end of the week.

''He had an element of amnesia after the game and he's had headaches since. All we can do is wait and see how he is in a couple more days. If the doc says he can't play, then he won't play.''

The Tigers returned yesterday from a couple of days in camp at Kiama. Lawrence went on the trip but did not join in training with the team. Galloway was there as well but was also restricted in training.

''Chris didn't come back on in the game against Souths after he went off hurt,'' Sheens said. ''Keith did, but sometimes on the night a player can get a head knock and then be tested and give all the right answers to the questions and be allowed back out, only to feel a bit off later.

''Keith hasn't been 100 per cent this week, so it's a wait-and-see thing with him as well. Wade's still got to prove himself. He was picked last week, but he was still aware of his hamstring, so we left him out. He has to prove his fitness if he's going to play this week.''

Sheens said he felt no need to tell Beau Ryan to scale down his television commitments after the winger had an awful game against Souths. Some observers have connected the two things, wondering if Ryan had lost focus but the coach said such suggestions were unfair to the player.

''He hasn't had a poor season, has he?'' Sheens said. ''He's been doing the television all year, so for people to suddenly suggest it's the problem when he has had one unhappy game is pretty poor, to be quite honest. He's played well for me on the wing, and at fullback at times, as well.

''One unhappy game doesn't mean it's the end of his TV career. It's a matter of how he handles things over the next few weeks. If he were to have a run of bad form he would have to look at why, and if he thought the TV was getting in the way he would have to address that.

''But it would be the same for any player who wasn't playing well - he would have to look at why. Beau doesn't do TV 24 hours a day. He does it in his spare time - most of his time is spent training and playing football.

''He doesn't do it every week, either. Sometimes, a couple of segments are recorded on the same day. I think it's often good for a player to have a bit of a distraction away from football, so that he's not thinking about footy all the time.''

Ryan took it upon himself to apologise for his form against Souths when the team mixed with fans at a members' day at Concord Oval on Sunday.

The Tigers have been heavily criticised in the wake of their loss to the Rabbitohs. They were beaten by a try in extra time after leading by 16 points during the second half against a team that was missing several players through injury and suspension.

But Sheens was adamant the criticism was unwarranted, saying: ''It was a game we always knew was going to be tough, and we lost after the bell.''

Great it just keeps getting Better. We need to have all players on deck to beat the Panthers. Oh well looks like another loss on the cards.

I find it a disgrace that Nathan Merritt got off for that hit on Chris Lawrence, just for the sake of a camera angle because it happened so fast…
Chris Lawrence is a fantastic young bloke & is not the type that would fake an injury as well...

Our injuries are made worse due to the rubbish replacements Sheens picks for injured players.

I.e second rowers replacing props etc.

For example, I bet if Galloway is out, Flanagan will replace him.

Yeah….....its Sheeeeensie's fault blokes are injured.

Wow......you really are freakily stalking Sheens.

Every thread its SHeens' fault.

Scarey!!!

Any chance we cant get one Sheens sucks thread and get the mods to just channel them all into one uber whingey/moaney/whiney/i want my mummy thread.

so do you think it's a good idea to replace a heavy front rower with the worlds smallest back rower??

I think you are the one stalking me, your unconditional love for then man is well….creepy

I for one am a bit sick of all the Sheens bashers. i dont mind anyones opinion ( even if i dont agree ) but geez every thread i read the same old people just stick the boot into the coach. we are sitting 5th and could go as high as second with a win this week but no you guys just keep whining over and over. please give it a break.

its not that Fergie… its more the constant Sheens bashing.. its OLD, and anything that goes wrong in the team its always his fault.. next itll be Sheens fault that Lawrence got concussion...

Please point out to me where I said that?

Simon perhaps it would be wise to actually debate a point for once. I know you are capable of this, surely?

T-REXX, the same applies to you. Either debate and address my point (which is a fair one) or just don't bother posting if all you have to say is I have NI.

Lawrence will be a big blow for us as he has been great all season, but he should sit this one out and get himself rite for next week, Concussions are serious and he couldnt even walk off the feild even if they think he is fit he should still sit this w/e out imo.

Also does any-one know how many games Lote has played this year including RU in England, because atm he is looking lethagic and burnt out, maybe due the work load he has put his body through this year. If we get asured of a finals spot this w/e i would think it a good idea to give him and Heighno a week off to freshin up.

This is fantastic news for Fitzy. He can fill the void at centre of fullback. Or if Sheens was daring enough he could give him the job at prop. Pretty sure it's the ONLY position he hasn't played yet!!

How exactly does naming a 2nd rower as prop cause an injury??? If you're a forward you're going to be hit by some big boppers from the other mob no matter what number you've got on your back.

I think he means that the effect injuries have on our side is far worse because they are not direct positional replacements.

Yes, this is exactly what I meant.

Replacing Payten with Flanagan or Galloway with Flanagan makes the loss through injury even worse than it should be.

Besides, haven't we had enough of blaming injuries? Injuries are part and parcel of any football side, and IMO we haven't had it THAT bad this season. Look at Souths last week - they were missing more than half their forward pack and a few backs and still managed to beat us.

I think our worse injury toll has been 2006, and fair enough that year you could blame injury for alot of our performances. But this year, I don't think so. I thought this was the year of no excuses?
