Excuses.

I had a look through the Canberra team and they were even younger.

And none of Afoa, Geyer, Murray, Sukkar, Broederlow, Aho, Samuelu, Hodges, Lanyon, and Jack (basically the whole pack) are Flegg age. It's a bit different to a couple of years ago, or end of last year when they were getting spanked running out with the likes of Kit Laulilii, Miller, and Broederlow or Godinet, Mitch Taotua & Tapua-Moors. Afoa and Geyer in particular have been really disappointing as leaders of the pack, particularly as they're considered as next man up for NRL.
That's disappointing to see Bunty on your list, wonder if he's pissed by no opportunity in 1st grade, looked useful in the trials.

Disappointing result from the Wests Magpies in NSW Cup. this team is a real head scratcher!

Some notes in no particular order:

- Latu Fainu was very good. Played 80 mins all at halfback. Scored a tried with a nice step & acceleration. Try assist putting Mason through. Crisp passing & did all the general kicking - was pretty good for the first time this year he's had to manage a kicking game.
- To my eye, the team lacked energy until the 2nd half. Owen Pattie owned us from dummyhalf & kept us on the backfoot behind the ruck.
- Skelton was strong with his yardage carries and some high kick defusals. Impressed with his effort areas & involvement.
- Sukkar only played the 1st half, was our best forward until then with his carries & solidifying our left edge. Looks like he'll come into our NRL side if KPP misses.
- Attard went off with concussion close to HT (looked pretty groggy), Mason went back to fullback and did some good things in attack (long break & sweeping try off Latu) but missed a tackle on the line with Broederlow to cost a try. Next week with Attard likely out in concussion protocols, I'd bring Logan Brookes up tbh. Mason is not the future at fullback.
- Bailey Hodges is a footballer. One of our best early at hooker with his defensive efforts & ok service then had to play left centre in 2nd half and actually did a job. Contributed to Faingaa's 2nd try with a super fast play the ball.
- Andrews is a work-in-progress. No doubting his ability in attack but needs to improve his defence on the edges. Contributed to about 2 of their tries.
- Geyer & Bunty were meh in the middle. Geyer costly with 2 handling errors & Bunty does a job but only looks Cup level tbh.
- Murray tried hard, effort is always there, some good yardage carries with his leg speed & some nice offloads but missed a couple of crucial tackles (with others) which led to Raiders tries.
- This team lacked a creative dummyhalf - imo Hodges & Josese Lanyon are much better locks who can fill in at dummyhalf. We are not seeing the best of Lanyon given he is not being used at lock.
- My best were Latu, Skelton, Fainga'a, Hodges & Mason.

Broederlow and Saukuru were both defensive liabilities and were directly responsible for 4 tries between them.
No idea why we want to persist with Broederlow as an edge back rower when he’s always been a defensive liability when playing in that position. When he has been moved to prop he looks so much better in attack and defence. Can we please move him back there.
Likewise Saukuru always struggles defensively when playing centre, so we were asking for trouble with them defending on the same edge.
It was Andrews worst game for us, he didn’t look interested for some reason.
