311 Weeks...

The Wahs will be a good challenge. I can’t think of another club who we are more evenly matched up against. They themselves have shown a bit of grit the last two weeks. Very reminiscent of the Wahs of 2023. JFH has steeled them a lot. Big test for us. I think considerably bigger challenge than the last two weeks. Good thing we are at home. If we can jag 3 in a row, it will make the build up to the Broncos a lot of fun.

I’m concerned about the Wahs

Given our history, 3 in a row is impossible

However, if our pack shows up, we might be in with a good shot
I was faking my confidence thanks for wrecking it haha

I think the key is that for Api, Luai, Turuva, Bird, Hunt, May and some of the guys who haven't been in grade that long it will be a total non issue

I agree and think the chat will not be focused on any stats at all. Probably more so around needing to start games better and improvement areas. This flips the script for me.

If we start like we did against the Dolphins, we may not be able to come home over the top of them so easily. One thing our team has been able to do the past 2 weeks is score in clumps whilst holding the opposition out. Need to continue this as it breaks the opposition.
4 tries to 0 in 16 minutes v Parra.
3 tries to 0 in 12 minutes v Dolphins.

Would be great to break this dismal record once and for all. Damn it’d be great to win about 7 or 8 in a row, but I’m probably dreaming on that one lol.

I’d like to get excited about our prospects this year, but then I’m reminded that we sat at 2-1 this time last season also with an impressive win over Cronulla and a narrow win over one of the same teams we’ve beaten this year.

Will we be different this year? Are we capable of 3 in a row or even more? I guess we’ll find out soon enough. As I said I’d like to get excited, but we’ve all been burned by this team and this club for so long, it’s hard to imagine any real change until it actually happens on the field.

That said, dare I say something feels different this year. The new recruits have brought something I haven’t seen at this club for a long, long time - teamwork and a desire to play for each other, as well as skill in the backs and mongrel in the pack. Api has grown an extra leg since Luai and Turuva have arrived. In fact, their enthusiasm, along with May, Bird & Skelton, has affected the whole team. There’s an idiot poster on here who keeps insisting Luai is a dud buy and he’d rather have Brooks back 🙄 Don’t know what his beef is, but if he can’t see the difference Luai has made to this team just by his mere presence alone, then the guy has no idea about team sports. Sure he may not have set the world on fire in the first few games, but you cannot underestimate his influence on a game and on the team with his talk and the little things he does that often go unnoticed because he’s a halfback and is expected to make the big plays all the time. Just seeing him running around in our number 7 jersey makes me more confident than ever before.

The team is still quite rusty and combinations aren’t quite there yet, but you can actually believe that there will be improvements coming the more they play together over the season, whereas in previous years the glaring weaknesses never seemed to go away. Two differences that have stood out for me in just 3 games is being able to keep teams scoreless for half a game and being the team scoring in the 5 minutes before halftime rather than the team being scored against! If they can keep that up, those 2 improvements alone give me hope for a better season ahead.

Tbf we were playing against the ref along with the fins

The penalty count was abysmal, some warranted but no consistency across the two teams

Just to emphasise how bad this current run is;
  • Since 2022, all 16 of our peers have won 3 in a row at least twice each.
  • 14 of them managed to do it last season - the Bulldogs have already managed to do it this year.
  • Most of them have recorded more than three in a row multiple times.
  • Since 2012 we have managed the feat just 3 times - once in 2014, once in 2016 and once in 2018. Thats 3 times in our last 12 full seasons!
  • In 2012 we had a run of 7 wins in a row seperated by a bye week, meaning we went 2 months without a loss. There are people on this forum who have never seen us be that successful and that was the year we were favourites to win the comp and came 10th
  • In 2011 we had a run of 9 wins in a row culminating with the second semi final loss where Warriors scored on the bell
  • In all, we have had 15 runs of 3 or more wins in succession in 25 seasons - our best years being 2010 where we went on 4 runs and of course 2005 where did it 3 times including the run through the finals for the premiership.
  • There is no other year where we did it more than once.
  • It is currently 6 years, 11 months and 2 weeks for us and counting - lets hope our 26th season brings a few more.

Good opportunity here, Wahs are typically very inconsistent, but so are we. Obviously we are a vastly improved side to recent years and playing a much simpler style that should reap a result against the Wahs. Reckon we weather the initial onslaught and have faith that our rotations get the job done this week, Dolphins game will build a lot of belief, interested to see who comes in for Skelton

crazy stat to have gone that long without going three on the trot. it's time to get the monkey off the back.

this NZ forward pack is going to be the toughest we've played so far. two internationals in JFH and Barnett in the middle, Niukore and Capewell on the edges and two underrated first graders at 9 and 13. if we allow them to lay a platform their spine will hurt us.

Our recent record against the Warrirors is woeful considering they were uprooted and depleted during the Covid years and outside 2023, they've been anchored to the bottom of the table.

The last victory over the Warriors I can remember was on a Sunday night at Campbelltown in 2019 when Farah scored a hattrick - a good omen perhaps.

I heard the coach and players mention Melboure @melbourne 4 or 5 times yesterday. My theory is we got ahead and then started thinking about next week, which meant we made life hard for ourselves last night.

This is the one. I'm putting my left and right nutsacks on it, but not the one in the middle.

Darwinism happening right here on the WTF forum. 😉
Until yesterday the double nutsack human didn't exist and then bammo in one day the triple has come to the fore.

It's a very miserable record.

I know a lot of people here go on about fixing our defence. That's justified. However, it's clear that our ability to score more points this season is what's winning us more games. 42 missed tackles and 5 errors against the Dragons but we still won the game.

If we want to break that Hoodoo, I think we should really go after the Storm and not hold back.
