44-0

Deserves its own thread as I don’t believe it’s getting the attention it deserves. I know it’s no secret how diabolical the second half was, but that score has rarely been highlighted

Probably too embarassing for all to discuss?
Even more relevant given we were leading at half time, albeit by a narrow margin. For me, even when we were up 10-0, I always thought we woud crumble as soon as the Dragons started to get it together. Which they did. For this sort of result to happen (44-0) you have to wonder at which point players lost the belief - if they ever had it. Or what was said at half time.

And don’t forget they had some disallowed tries and bombed at least one as well.
As soon as they scored their second try last night the writing was on the wall. I was furious at all the missed tackles. The second half was an extension of that effort.

We were never going to maintain that first 20 minutes, but I don’t think even the most jaded supporter could have predicted that big of a meltdown.

We, the fans, need a honest response from the club as to WTF happened at half time and in the resulting 2nd half. If contracts have to be torn up so be it, but I do think its deeper than that.

I think Saints shifted up a gear and just blew us away, we couldnt compete against a big side (WT have long been too small in forwards and backs against the general league trend of bigger guys), the usual brain fart sin bin just collapsed the team morale, and such senior players that we do have are fading - Api being the exception.

Why can we never shift up a gear? Are we too fragile to listen to someone tearing us a new one?

Worst half of footy I've seen from us, I think ever.

No discipline, no thought to grind our way back into the game.

Dumb passes, dumb offloads from a team with no possession.

Anything that could go wrong did.

No players to replace them next week except for Sezar.

Reminded me of the Broncos a few years ago who were young and when things didn't go their way they couldn't change momentum.

With that effort against an average team your looking at a possible 88 nil scoreline in the future. Maybe 100 nil if its actually against a good team.

Nothing to see here though according to some. Its to be expected.

There's no excuse for what happened. Doesn't matter what goes against you, you simply can't allow what happened.

However there are some things to highlight. I'm not blaming the ref, as I think we got a lucky penalty before half time that gave us the lead. So things go both ways. But to start the 2nd half we could have a recieved a penalty on 3 separate tackles coming out from our end, in fact I believe they were blatant penalties. We then kicked down field and Butler gave saints a penalty straight away for slowing down the play the ball when it wasn't even slow at all. Different rulings like that have to be stopped by the NRL. That got saints upfield to hit the lead. Then Sullivan can't help but be a nkb and gets 10 in the bin.

A miss kick by Hunt goes closer to the touchline then he intended and its now 6 minutes a man down and we haven't touched the ball.

Seyfarth then drops the back tackle 2, meaning Saints have 100% of the ball for the 10 minutes we are a man down.

We gave up.

It started with the ref, then stupidity by Sullivan, then luck for Saints, then stupidity by Seyfarth, then no heart.

Well, we could make an argument that the "weaker" teams don't get favors by the refs...However, I can cop this when the score is close, and a crucial decision goes against you. When the score is what it was last night, we really are climbing mirrors, your majesty 🙂 And in any case, the ability for a team to cop it on the chin and still put in, is a measure of how well they are coached, physically and mentally. One or two substandard games, I can also cop. When it becomes the standard (and the best we can do) I worry.

Yeah, they shifted up a gear alright and blew us away in the second half just like they did the previous week scoring 22 unanswered points to beat Penrith.

Were we not ready for that?

Did Benji not get any news about the team they were to play next?

Was he oblivious to what happened during our bye because he was in Fiji and was totally switched off?

What did Flanno do at half time in the Penrith game?

What he did was tear them a new one and let them know in uncertain terms that they were playing a reserve grade side that had their origin stars out and he got a response in front of the oppositions home crowd.

Being down by 2 points at half time against a Wests Tigers team that at the best of times could be described as a reserve grade side and was currently decimated by injury and suspensions, what do you think Flanno would have told them at half time, would he have ripped into them again for being behind in front of their fans at their own home ground against a much more inferior team than what they faced the previous week?

What did Benji tell our guys at half time, did he not think the opposition were going to come out with all guns blazing, what did he do to to instill a bit of pride in the jumper, to re-enforce the need for discipline and the value of ball security for the remainder of the game.

In all honesty I was pretty proud, despite all the errors that we fought back to lead at half time and knew deep down that they would without a doubt get over the top of us in the second half, but never did I imagine that we would be so bad as to have 40+ unanswered points scored against us.

Yeah just made me realise the off season ain't so bad
It’s ok, I got through the night. 😎
It’s hard to keep my anticipation for the coming season in check, but I think back to the Tommy Tribute game. Bagipantstellus there with Tommy’s jersey made me feel ill, then they started the game. A terrible day in our history for me. Always brings me back to reality though.
