$50 Million reason Wests Tigers are prepared to quit Campbelltown.

LO has a better atmosphere because the event itself is a destination . And what I mean by that is, is much like a festival , or premier league match or even college football in the USA , the crowd knows what it is , and there’s a hype around it , which means beers and young people .
It started when I used to live in the area , that LO matches became an attraction as much as the game .
Very much akin to a premier league match .
Whereas C-town , is the place you take your kids for an afternoon out watching the footy .
There’s not too many people at LO there to just watch the footy .
The attraction is LO . The mystique that it is this amazing atmosphere and place to experience football , has actually now created the reality .
LO whilst good , was hardly this must see experience in the 90s with 7-8k max attending games . Yet the nostalgia around it has like I said , managed to manifest an inaccurate memory , into a reality .
C-town just doesn’t have that . It doesn’t have 15-20k drunken lunatics ready to start chanting Turuva s name , or The Hokey Pokey but about Hoppas butt hole fingers .
You can’t manufacture that . Which is a real issue with going forward out of C-town . If they upgraded LO to 30k it would sell out because it’s a “LO match” .
I’m not saying I want that , but yea that atmosphere is lightning in a bottle .

Seems like Richo might be getting $$$ spent on Campbelltown.
I've seen an adv. for a ground manager? or similar? to be employed.
Could be the 1st step in Campbelltown becoming the super stadium WT's badly need 🙂.
I imagine we will be hearing something positive from Richo fairly soon if it's true.

They were saying on radio the other day if the Federal govt were going to tip any coin in it would have been part of the recent federal election smooching

Local Govt = nothing

State Govt = Have provided almost $17m for the proposed COE...lucky to get anything out of them for CSS

They were not confident of any funding for CSS

Yes I think Cambo may miss the cash hand outs , Richo putting pressure on but probably knows it’s dead in the water , same as offering Galvin million when knowing he’s not staying no matter what

I guess that means the old Stadium Manager has gone/ is going.
I wonder why

We have an old stadium that holds the same numbers but no one turns up.

The club has no future in Campbelltown. 25 years of treating it like a cattle yard with no interest In the area other than trying to stop juniors getting pinched is showing.

Shit owners, shit club, shit coach, majority shit players
. . . . . . . . got to be some truth in there somewhere coming from a good Leumeah lad.

st george have a nursery at Wollongong, they dont play massive y games there and still hold that nursery
if we stop playing nrl games at CSS we will still have Macarthur as our nursery
Magpies should ditch Lidcombe and play home games at CSS

Thats the problem, they just seem to do what they want...go about their merry way happy to be anchored at the bottom of the ladder year in year out....just as long as theyre playing = ie: happy to exist...relive to 80s at Lidcombe all 300 of em

There seems to be no cohesion with WTs...but a fair bit of animosity

so frustrating 25 years on we don't have wests tigers in all grades !

Man if that’s the case how the hell can Campbelltown council constantly have negative things to say about the club. The council puts nothing in themselves . Much like the leagues club out there .”play games there and we will spend money on the infrastructure”
THATS NOT HOW BILLION DOLLAR SPORTS OPPERATE! You pay to play …. Leichhardt council has figured it out . What the hell is wrong with C-town .
Every single game , if it’s 15-20k nearly half of those people if not more are coming from other areas , and spending money in the C town community . Even if it’s food and alcohol , grabbing a pie at the pie shop , that’s money that wouldn’t be there if the game wasn’t on . Even getting a Big Mac is money being put into the community .
All the pubs around the stadium … anyways it’s just dumb .
Sporting events and sports teams add immeasurably value to a community . Especially if it’s a sport like nrl / afl in Aus , or nfl/nba in the USA , football in Europe . It can generate and reinvigorate a town if the right investment and good faith is put in. Look at Wrexham . Sure deadpool bought the team so there’s a curiosity there , but the whole town has lifted , as the team has grown and success has come to the team. Housing prices , new economy’s like tourism , construction projects to reinvigorate the town to match the new demand from tourism , as well as upgrades to the stadium .
It’s all relative .
Like if the nsw gov knocked down C-town and built a stadium that’s of the size of Comm Bank but the new age of one of the USA stadiums , tell me that ground wouldn’t generate income , just by being there . You could attract concerts , sporting events , whatever gets a crowd . And where’s there’s large gatherings of people there’s money . So money for the vendors , money for the hotels , money for the shops around , money to fill your car with petrol .
The club wants to move there … but man that community does sweet F A to make the club feel welcome .

"We haven't got a solution": NSW Premier's frank admission over Accor Stadium

NSW Premier Chris Minns has acknowledged there is no immediate solution to the state's stadium conundrum, with questions swirling around the future of Accor Stadium and the broader sporting infrastructure strategy.

Speaking on Freddy and the Eighth podcast on Wide World of Sports, Minns addressed the long-running debate about redeveloping suburban grounds like Kogarah Oval and Shark Park, while also weighing in on the growing calls for a roof at the state's biggest venue.

His answer was clear: "We haven't got a solution at the moment."

That admission comes as pressure builds from sporting bodies and fans alike, with interest in a potential $300 million roof for the 83,000-seat Accor Stadium.

While remaining open to the possibility, Minns remained grounded: "It could happen, but it's super expensive. My issue right now is getting our finances under control."

No easy fix for the future of sporting venues in Sydney

Minns also defended the importance of Accor amid criticism, noting that "60,000 people on Monday, the biggest crowds we've seen in the NRL for suburban week-by-week games in years, wouldn't happen if we didn't have a giant stadium out there."

The Premier explained the government's long-term financial planning runs in four-year cycles and dismissed any suggestion of raising taxes to fund stadium works:

"People are already paying more than they've ever paid-rent, mortgages, groceries. There's no room left in their back pocket. We're living in the most expensive city on Earth. I just can't ask for a cent more from anyone."

With the state's budget under strain and no clear plan in place, the future of Sydney's major sporting venues remains unresolved.

Happened to be at a function at Commbank yesterday..its a magnificent facility where everyone feels very close to he action..all seated..30000 capacity
It has 2 problems..its a 2km walk from the station, and the ground is entirely devoted to the Eels despite beingfully funded by govt
Was in the eels Directors viewing facility...massive room ..,but rite next door they have separate suites for several of their prominent teams over the years
Im very envious
Pays to be a swinging seat!!
BTW..ticket prices for Panthers home game were $65 adults and $40 kids..expensive day out for a familiy

The real shame about this West and Then West Tigers have had plenty of opportunity to get it right at Campbelltown but have only every done halfhearted job. There is no real marketing, there is no real school interaction, there is no radio segment on C91.3 to tell people about the club and its plans. I do not believe we have any real involvement with schools like st Greg's anymore.

I see scouts from other clubs every weekend i hardly see anyone of note from West Tigers.

None of that is true mate sorry . We definitely have an affiliation with st Greg’s, there’s tigers promotional billboards around c town as you drive through , and there’s an office on queen st , which the scouting department works out of , and they’ve quadrupled thier school interactions in the past year .
Our main affiliation moving forward will be with eagle vale sports high that’s just getting off the ground .
I’m happy to be proven wrong .
I actually noticed the change the last year or so , that you actually do see tigers things around , and at least a minor attempt letting the community know it’s tigers territory . It could be too little too late though.
I drive through the joint a few times a week , give or take .
None of that has anything to do with government funding on a new stadium that will house 2 professional sports teams … well 3 if you include wnrl .
It’s the biggest growing area in Australia and it has a third rate stadium like C town . It’s a joke IMO. It has zero atmosphere , and I don’t think it’s just because of the different vibes and people who attend those games . The sound is lost there . It needs to be knocked down and a state of the art , purpose built arena put in . It’s ridiculous that it’s Bruce stadium then 250-300km then comm bank / Accor . And nothing worth noting in between. Thats a huge area not being serviced by sporting infrastructure .

I’ve always thought Accor has made the most sense as a stadium due to its geography . It’s centrally located , and right in the heart of legacy Balmain territory. Concord is literally 5-10 mins up the road.
it’s funny if the Accor upgrades had gone through which were designed to make the stadium just as good for smaller crowds as much as bigger ones , I don’t think there would be any debate about where we should play our matches. Moving forward . As it stands , that stadium is 26 years old now , and really only can service massive sporting events effectively

The Macarthur region has exploded with new suburbs popping up seemingly over night and there's still a hell of a lot of redevelopment going on. From Appin to Edmondson Park to Rossmore and beyond the Cities of Campbelltown and Camden have seen and continue to see enormous growth.
With that growth, there's an abundance of kids playing soccer (football for the purists) league (including group 6) and union.
The area has an NRL team a NRLW team an A-League team and a second tier Rugby Union team.
Taking all that into account the building of a brand new stadium capable of holding 35- 40 thousands and entertainment area in the region makes a lot of sense. Whether that be at the current site at Leumeah or a little closer to Liverpool at Glenfield or Bardia/Edmondson Park.

If a completely new stadium was built there (rather than Leumeah) I'm sure the Bulldogs would play out of there rather than Accor or CommBank. Wests Tigers could build a club either joined to the stadium complex or be adjacent to it with undercover access.

Get old Harry's Meriton and Mastertons to form a consortium together with the Holman Barnes Group and others to build a mix of commercial-residental with hotels and an entertainment component to be designed to flow into and around the new club house and stadium..........ahhhhh......if only!

But oh hell Chris Minns, this would be so good for the economy of South Western Sydney delivering hundreds of jobs and work for dozens of local small businesses:-

Another world class stadium for NSW that can hold international clashes such as world cup games, provide another venue for concerts as well as being a home ground for Wests Tigers Men's and Women's NRL teams, Macarthur Bulls FC possibly possibly the Campbelltown Harlequins or even the Bulldogs. It would be close to public transport (near a major junction) and has an airport nice and handy for interstate visiting players & fans.

BUILD IT AND THEY WILL COME!!

We can’t loose Cambo , it’s where a huge catchment is and we need to work on he development of school interaction , local, club support , I know we are doing stuff but Cambo is still a ground we can play at , if we were winning more games people will just turn up , I can’t see people saying he seats aren’t soft enough or the pie line is to long , it’s all part of the game day , go early , eat early fixes that , and take a blanket to sit over the seat if ya bum is not up to the plastic seats or Timber seats , gee I went to Leichhard many times as a kid and it was Timber slats , hot dog and a pies washed down with a coke , exceptional days , harden up folks
