$50 Million reason Wests Tigers are prepared to quit Campbelltown.

I think you will be disappointed CC.

$110M gets you nothing especially given it's government funding. That means there needs to be a strategic business case raised and presented for consideration and approval etc - that is all included in the capital budget so by the time the consultants get it done they will chew through around $2M. Add in 2.5 to 3% per annum in CPI and that will reduce the buying power in real terms by around $10M. So by the time construction comes around we will be looking at $44M for LO and $55M for CAmbo.

I struggled to find something current, in real $ terms, that equates to what we are looking at. The closest I could find, that is publicly available, is the Queensland Government funding of a $62.78 million redevelopment of Browne Park (Rockhampton, QLD) to provide a fit-for-purpose regional facility.
Browne Park Redevelopment

Based on what it is costing the QLD governemnt in today's $ we are likely to see:
  • Seating Capacity Upgrade:
Replace a single grandstand with a three-level 3,500-seat grandstand featuring a roof with improved sightlines, new seating to meet current accessibility compliance (ramps/lifts).
  • Facilities Modernisation:
New player change rooms (M/F), recovery and medical facilities, referees’ rooms, and upgraded media/press facilities.
  • Spectator Amenities:
Improved food/beverage outlets, upgraded toilets, family-friendly zones.
  • Technology & Safety:
LED lighting to broadcast standard, upgraded big screens, improved PA/security systems.
  • Partial Roof Structures:
Roof coverage for parts of the redeveloped stand, but not full coverage across the stadium.
For $309M Penrith will end up with:
  • New western stand including improved:
    • player facilities catering for both male and female sports
    • visitor amenities
    • food and beverage areas
    • grandstand seating.
  • New eastern stand, including:
    • spectator amenities
    • food and beverage areas
    • grandstand seating.
  • Refurbished and new stadium entries on the northern and western boundaries.
  • Upgrades to the existing western training field to create:
    • a dedicated player warm-up area
    • an activation hub at the western entry to the stadium
    • additional event day car parking.
So when you look at it in the bigger picture for Wests Tigers the players and corporates will get much better facilities and there will be some improved seating, toilet facilities and disabled access to meet modern requirements along with better food delivery capabilities. The rest of the grounds will get some new lipstick.
I am not seeing 50m in that let alone 300m.

Sure Toilets and showers are a PITA. But you building them for a stadium where you set it out in Bulk.. I.e. rows of showers, not like our bathrooms. A home Bathroom, done right is around the 25k mark. Yes you need to waterproof, tile, test and all the rest. It's a 100k job, not a 1m job.

Sure LED lighting and proper sound systems cost money. Yet not that much, were talking maybe 400k, if top notch 1m.

Add ramps for the disabled. Great! lay concrete at an incline... Yes your concreters are expensive but how damn complex is a ramp? Really??

50m is Issac Moses doing the bricklaying or something?

(Sorry I just don't get it, you may agree or disagree... I still don't get it. Seems like a colossal markup when a good brainy site manager would get it done for far less.).

You don't have a site manager running it - a Govt contract will have a Head Contract/Managing Contract in place where they are taking a cut, meeting all of the Govt reporting requirements etc. You may not see it but if you look at the Qld Project I linked you too that is the cost.

$50M won't go far.

the money really doesn't purchase much , grateful we got it. Do smart discissions have a used by date ,by the time wokes penpushers and luncheon discussions are done with the environmentalists , Leaves a roof and corporate facilities. Preferer a 50/50 split , Wouldn't be upset if the West s connections can manage the politics and turn us into a force

could you plz post a photo of the example you make

Campbelltown blows. The stadium and the area. Miserable place.

Lilyfield is a natural amphitheatre of sorts with the grandstand, hill, the properties at the south-south-eastern end, and even the fig trees at the northern end, assisting to enclose the arena. The ground is built into the topography nestled between Glover st at the top, and Mary St below. The grandstand is also above the field (you need to walk up stairs from the field to the dressing room).

Leumeah is totally opposite to that. For the most part, it's a flat piece of land with a couple of grand stands built on top of it. In winter, it's the coldest place on earth. It's a wind tunnel right through it.

I am a season ticket gold member since 2000 for all grounds, some I sit next to at LO since 2000 do not have CSS membership seating.
if membership drops off from an 8 game move to CSS, then the move will not be a success.
I will still be keeping a membership to go to all grounds
hope redevelopment of both grounds work out ok

I notice you keep using words like “if’ and “could”. What’s the point on dwelling if you can’t even say for sure.

Richo has pulled the right rein on everything since he has been here
this will be his first mistake
those crowds last year were against strong sydney clubs, like when parramatta plays at LO they bring the crowd.

People just don't realise, They think because it's a lot of money, You'll get a lot of stuff.
Even if they just replaced the seating.
20,000 odd seats at say $10 a throw - There's almost 1/4 mill in Seats when they're installed.

The Dollars, They quickly run away.

What you say might have substance…but it’s the past … this commitment is not about the magpies fans from 25 years ago as harsh as that might seem …the audience they should be targeting in the South West now, will have little or no recollections of when the Wests Magpies were still around in the top grade
Yeah I agree with that - the club has done such a rubbish job of connecting with the south-west throughout its first 25 years, it really has to start from now. Any goodwill Western Suburbs were able to generate during their 1987-2000 tenure has been p*ssed down the drain by certain factions within the JV.

This is only ever going to work if they show a genuine commitment to the region. Represent the area and start playing for the people of the south-west.

Footy fans aren’t stupid, they will invariably spot a phoney. Why would anyone expect the Macarthur people to support a team associated so heavily with Leichhardt.

Wests fans had their team uprooted from the inner west years ago and they never made anything of it.

The inner city suburban grounds are steeped in tradition, memories and history and trying to put that to the side while making the case that new migrants to the South West are going to prop up the club in future is short sighted...there's way more competition from the Bulldogs, Penrith, Souths, Parra by moving out that way. This population growth will be spread amongst them.

Go to the inner west and it is and always has been Tigers.

We will see though...not death riding it, just saying if you forego your tradition and something that people love, you might not get the support you think you will.
That’s a sweeping statement.

Wests always struggled financially whether they were in the inner west or south-west. They were however Club Champions in 1991 and did make the semis as often as Balmain did during their time at Campbelltown.

During Tommy’s years as coach, the club did manage to forge a genuine connection. Sadly by the very late 90s, Wests hit rock bottom both on and off the paddock.

what decade do you think it is ,
Look I get it. It's 2025 which is why some things are more expensive.

I also get we can't do a 1970's football drive. Pay people in meat pies and autographs and get a few blokes on the weekend. I get it.

Heck maybe I am a grumpy old man. But I don't see 50m let alone 300m in construction costs.
Sydney is known to be WAY more expensive then other states when were building things.

I miss the old managers. The one who would not only get 3 quotes but grill each line item.

It's what Jolls says.

It's not the manager though.
It's the Project manager, the site manager, the work and safety manager, the assistant manager, the assistant to the assistant manager. The Environmental impact statement... for a stadium replacing a stadium.

Plus the lollypop girls. their manager and the assistants because we can't close any roads and detour cars. For some reason we can't have one person watching 2x automated gates and need 2 people holding a stop sign at either end...

Look not angry at the board or anyone. It's the way things are now. But I am calling the BS as I see it.

This post highlighted something I’d previously not thought a lot about. Wests people have experienced relocation before, whereas Balmain types feel horribly threatened by any sniff of change.

No one is saying zero games at Leichhardt.
No one is suggesting we discard tradition.
