Bit unfair quoting 5 years imo.

He debuted in round 24, 2013 and had one game. 2014, 2015, 2016 and this year fair enough.

Basically he has had 4 years - most of that time with no direction basically a reserve grade roster and a halves partner that stifled him into almost a slow death. He is still 22 years old - **Thurston wasn't any better at that age.**

I agree next year with a pack that has a bit of grunt, an experienced halves partner, a full off season with Cleary (he worked wonders teaching his son) and a team without no hopers like Lovett (who thinks millimetres are metres in attack), should do pretty well.

Yeah, Thurston was no better at that age. That's why he played Origin in 2005 and got the Cowboys to the Grand Final…....................at the age of 22.

Maybe we should look at signing a backup in case Brooks doesn't kick on next year. I'd imagine it will be his last chance as well, with Cleary here and everything.

I love the quote that gets trotted out that Thurston wasnt any better at that age. It is thorough crap and a totally misleading lie. At that same age JT had already been a part of a GF win, earned a players player award at Origin level, won Dally M halfback of the year, won Dally M player of the year, captained a club and played in a second GF.

Yep Russel, he was no better :roll noob.

Probably sounds crazy, but I think a lot of his problems stem from his personality. He seems scared of his own shadow, how do you expect him to bark out orders to his forward pack.

Sounds perfectly reasonable go me - he lacks confidence. He has occasional games where he seems 'on' and goes really well but for the most part he's like a school boy playing with men and wants to blend into the background. Compare his personality with Moses for a fairly stark comparison of confidence levels.

Hopefully this can be improved with experience but it may be that he never fully emerges from his shell. I think the ability is there but will need someone to bring it out.

On today's effort, do you believe the reported 1mil to retain Ash Taylor is good value? He was behind a well beaten pack admittedly.

Definitely not. Paying overs is simple bad business.

Cooper Cronk 33 years of age.
Johnathan Thurston 34
Mitchell Pearce 28.
Cherry Evens 28
Adam Reynolds 27
Ben Hunt 27
Chad Townsend 26
Look Brooks 22
Nathan Cleary 20
Make you own judgement but all I can say is from what I have seen this year apart from Cronk and Thurston there is no other half on that list that is consistent and not struggling at some point with some aspects of their game.
…... people can criticise Brooks for his weaknesses however at 22 he is not doing too bad.

Brooks has improved his running game and defense big time. The major flaw is his erratic kicking game and poof pass selection. He needs to work hard at his trade as if he can improve some aspects of his game it shows he has the talent just needs the work. If Cleary can't improve him then move on next year.

What's a "poof pass" , walking down Oxford street?

It's good that there are some people on here that can actually have a laugh.
Cheers

I think Cleary has told him to ignore the grubber in goal. He is quite bad at those, either much too long or into legs.

Cleary has probably told him the up and under can be a lottery. He was only doing high balls. The grubbers today were done by others, Tui, Teddy.

I feel Luke is inconsistent and more often than not ends up on the poor side of his performances. I've heard the only reason he signed was that we were the only offer he had, not the best offer the only offer. Surely Luke knows he has two years to show his worth otherwise it is UK or out. This may help him get his game into gear but I feel the club is looming ahead just in case. The start of next year will be important for him as he is probably one of the first on the chopping block.

I have always been a luke brooks fan but what worried me the most about his performance yesterday is that the tigers had their best performance yesterday in a month. The forwards layed a great platform we defended well our outside backs were playing with shape yet still brooks failed to shine. He had every chance to take the right decison with the ball yet still he failed to deliver particularly with his kicking. He opts for the cross field bomb instead of a grubber when we have a attacking set every time. I dont know whether brooks will ever build that confidence that is required to be a nrl halfback. Its almost like mitchell moses has grabbed his nuts and has refused to give them back to him.

Brooks continues to disappoint. No other no7 in the NRL would gift the other team 3 7 tackle restarts and he did not miss his mark by inches, he was way out.

On the other hand my mind goes back to some go the no7 we have tried in the past and Brooks looks like Johns in comparison with most of them so maybe Iam being a tad hard on him. Certainly his defence has improved and he is starting to run a little more so there are some good signs.

You would imagine Nathan Cleary might come into picture if Brooks fails to deliver in 2018 although I get the feeling that Ivan probably wants to avoid the father son thing at the same club

I might be a glass half full type, but I thought that his short kicking game was his only let down yesterday. Defensively he was strong, his long kicks were decent and his running game was good. His only real noticeable let down for me yesterday was his poor kicking through and behind the line.

Reynolds is pretty effective at grubbers and bring in the Halfbacks from U20's and NSW cup for preseason training to see if they have potential to play first grade.
