Did AC/DC copy Beatles Helter Skelter - still one of my favourites

I thought they just recorded the same generic drum beat on one song, liked it, and pasted it over every track they ever recorded.

Do you know the song"? I have the double white album and ringo is complaining that "I have blisters on my fingers" from the number of times he had to thrash the drums for this song - you are caught with your pants down trying to perform a Hopoate

OR was Ringo doing something else to get blistered fingers?

This is bloody ridiculous.
from Wiki
"A Whiter Shade of Pale" has continued to receive critical acclaim. Along with Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody", "A Whiter Shade of Pale" was jointly recognised as "The Best British Pop Single 1952–1977" at the BRIT Awards, part of Elizabeth II's Silver Jubilee.
–-----------------------------------------

The song was only written as a response to Beatle's Hey Jude. Surely some of the Beatles and Rolling Stone and Kinks and Animals songs deserve the award over this song.

Why? cause you don't agree with it!

I play the song about every second day, the classical remake mentioned above that I prefer over the original - Beatles Yesterday was song of the century and had about double the cover versions of Shade of Pale. another great remake is the classical version of Nights of White Satin. Satisfaction (stones) had a greater impact - it was regulation at every venue I attended. There are about 500 Beatle cover groups but how many procol Harum cover groups?

Song of the century in whose estimation?

Most popular does not make it better.

here's where you get it

"Yesterday" was voted Best Song of the 20th century in a 1999 BBC Radio 2 poll.[43]

Glory Glory to South Sydney would have to rank as one of the best NRL songs

Disagree on both counts - the second most emphatically.

One of the best. One of the great music story tellers.

Saw him at the Regent Theatre when he visited - I think about 78/79.

Came out to the foyer to talk to the people - great Guy and a great loss to the Music Industry.

Did you have free tickets? I am surprised at what you said earlier in this thread on a Sunday - the Lord's day.

You must mean counting his money.

Absolutely - how could you ever doubt.

Did actually have free tickets - one of the industry perks at the time.

Whiter Shade of Pale isn't even Procol Harem's best song. As to Harry Chapin, I'm torn between WOLD and Taxi - very similar story telling songs and both brilliant.

Wrong decade, but any Alice In Chains fans?

Wouldn't say I was a massive fan but they were pretty good at their peak. Absolutely tragic story though. Drugs do horrible things to talented people.

For the most part i agree. Kids these days dont know what they are missing out on. So much of the modern music simply has no beat.

You wait and wait and wait for the beat to drop or the temp to change but nothing errr.

That said there is some good stuff around, its just harder to find.

There is lots of good music around some of it borrows from the old - Greta Van Fleet have some great riffs and the singer sounds like Page. Muse, Killers, queens of the Stone Age, two pieces like royal blood, polish club and black pistol fire. Also heard a song the other day from a band called magpie salute called omission, great riffs

Sure the 60's and 70 were great they were truely pioneers, Aussie rock was outstanding in the 70 and 80, grung with bands like nirvana, pearl jam, soundgarden, Alice in chains and so on.

Music evolves and revolves but there is always a room for more.

Same, I love it when i can hear the bands i like and the influence they have on a modern artists. However i also like a lot of new material that is a long way removed from our generation. Having a young teenager does that to you. Sometimes you just have to say yeah thats pretty cool, i like it.

There is some good original and very modern music out there that is worth a listen.

Who are some of the modern bands/singers you would recommend?
Cog would be the band I would recommend from the last few years. Five Finger Death Punch have some great songs if you like hard rock, plenty of booming drums, kickarse guitars and Pantera-inspired vocals. Beaut music for a drink or ten!

I used to listen to Cog in my 20's, good band.

There are some good bands still around. The Mars Volta are a phenomenal band. Deloused in the Comatorium was a masterpiece, Frances the Mute was brilliant as well, but they fell away after Jeremy Ward died.

Flea and John Fruiscante from the Chillis played on the first album, and Fruiscante played on the following two after that too IIRC.

Also, can't go past Reznor and NIN either.
