A Call to action - Rozelle Village

Balmain Leagues Club plans sent to ICAC
From: The Daily Telegraph November 20, 2012

OPPONENTS of the former Balmain Leagues Club site redevelopment last night voted for ICAC to examine the controversial proposal's connections to Eddie Obeid.

At a public meeting, more than 200 residents and business owners supported a motion by Leichhardt mayor Darcy Byrne to ask ICAC to examine the"relationships" that shaped the Rozelle Village development proposal, including the role of Mr Obeid.

ICAC is currently investigating allegations the Obeid family profited from leaked government information.

Just because the NIMBYs and the inept Leichhardt Council voted for it to go to ICAC asnd some little meeting doesn't mean it will. I very much doubt it will end up at ICAC plus Barry O Farrell is too smart to hand back planning power of the site to Leichhardt Council. The project will go ahead in some shape or form. I as a rate payer wish I could stop Leichhardt Council wasting money doing all these costly reports to oppose the project.

I still am waiting for the club to sue Leixhhardt council to get the money owed to them back.

Also can someone that is involved with Balmain Leagues club tell me if they have every received compensation from the NSW government for closiing the club early because of the failed metro project ( I know a few companies that tendered to build it received compensation and I am sure that Balmain Leagues should be entilted to compenstaion as well, I have never read anything about them receiving any).

Barry is also too smart to stand in the way of a proposed ICAC inquiry.

If Rozelle gets up and going, do they intend on calling the club, Wests Tigers Leagues Club.

I don't think so, it would be a step forward though.

This is despite their not being a single shred of evidence that Obeid has the slightest interest in the project… Seriously I used to know people at ICAC and they'd just groan every time they read something like this...

Probably. Although the artist's rendtion did have a very large Wests Tigers logo in the window!! And if you can't trust an artist's rendition of a development what can you trust?

MORE than 200 Rozelle residents have called on the Independent Commission Against Corruption to expand its enquiry to look at the involvement of power broker and former politician, Eddie Obeid, into the proposed Balmain Tigers redevelopment.

At the public meeting held by Leichhardt Council at Balmain Town Hall on Monday night, residents and councillors also passed a motion calling on the state premier, Barry O'Farrell, to hand back control of the site to Council.

**The meeting followed revelations by the former planning minister Frank Sartor to the Commission that Mr Obeid had called him lobbying for the redevelopment while he was minister.**
About one week ago, revised plans for the contentious two-tower development were released, showing a reduction in height from 32 to 24 storeys. About $30 million worth of eco-friendly design measures were also deemed unviable and scrapped.

A spokesman for the Rozelle Residents Action Group, Mark Wallis, attended the meeting and said residents were "overwhelmingly against" the revised plans.

"We also found out today that the developers, Rozelle Village, have put out a tender calling for builders, even though the development hasn't been approved.

"Perhaps they know something we don't."

The Leichhardt mayor, Darcy Byrne, said he would write to the Commission asking them to advise him about Obeid's role in the development.

"This whole redevelopment has been a saga marred by a lack of transparency," Cr Byrne said.

"We can't have these important decisions that will impact the community being made behind closed doors."

Your source notwithstanding there is still no evident Obeid has any financial interest in Rozelle. Given the previous government didn't approve it and the decision making has zero to do with Obeid I would strongly suggest the whole thing is a red herring. His lobbying couldn't have been too effective - the development went virtually nowhere when he was in government. Either the suggestion is that Obeid has influence over the current independent assessment of the project or Darcy Byrne should stop being so dishonest.

The artist's rendition (yes I know the limitations therein but still…) would suggest it will be called Tigers

Only 35 mins later:

Mate, dont pretend you know everything…..you just was made to look very foolish

Lots of opinions in this thread backed by biased desire rather than facts

Happy to be corrected by the article that was sent. I was unaware of that at the time. Do you fact check every singe post on this forum?

What is getting tired is your constant personal attacks on anyone who doesn't share your opinion. You've got no interest in discussing this rationally you've just lobbed on to throw another personal grenade.

I dont fact check, but I dont state things im unsure of as fact…its really very simple

I have little knowledge on this topic, (thus my minimal input here)
it seems youre in the same boat

Just cut the BS and all's sweet

Yeah I made a post that wasn't quite accurate, someone sent something in more detail and it went from there - no issue and I'm happy to accept the additional info. Normally I try to make a point of what is my opinion or what I believe to be fact - I'm not perfect and I'm posting in between doing other things. Of course I make mistakes, of course I don't know everything. Never said I did.

There's no BS on my part. You've just got to drop off this witch hunt and it will be sweet. Stick to the topic and lay off the constant personal reflections.
