There’s no coach turning this team around in less than 3 years. Madge doing the best with the crap he has been given. His recruitment has been smart **and the club as a whole is building,** unfortunately a tough draw and some poor performances will not make us look good on the ladder come the end of the year but as a whole I think the club is building the right way.

He’s going about things a whole lot better than our last couple coaches. He’s playing the long game which takes patience but in our current predicament it’s the best option. We can’t afford a new coach, extend Madge one more season and see how he goes.

Desperately need to keep cleaning out the rubbish from our cap, he’s trying his best and will continue to try. I’m happy he’s tough and willing to yell and drop players, a soft coach wouldn’t be able to change our culture I think

He’s not perfect and has made mistakes but he’s our best option

Seriously Josh. Can you please pinpoint and articulate exactly where and how we are building as a club because mate all I see are the same performances, the same words, the same excuses, the same situations roll out every week every year. There is no evidence that I see that we are building. We are doing stuff - yes. But we are not building. In fact it could be argued we are regressing.

We are investing in youth, cleaning up our salary cap, new training facilities coming, Madge’s recruitment has been good, training at a higher level than previous years, while there’s been hiccups we have showed more heart and resilience in some perfomances this year then we have the last 3 seasons.

Madge is playing the long game and it will take a long time, the steps he has taken are the best ones you could do. He’s been a lot smarter than previous coaches and has a genuine eye on the long term future of the club which can be seen by trying to realign with St Greg’s among other things.

Unfortunately we will probably end up 10th or 11th on the ladder. Hard draw and some poor performances have lead us there but there isn’t an instant fix to our problems

That’s doing stuff. Where’s the evidence we are building? We are buying players yep? Was there any evidence tonight that the players we are buying are building our club?
I was hopeful we were building. Not seeing it at all in any aspect of our play.

Your weekly thread marathon ellery

Feels like groundhog day...

I am sure I made posts saying Benji needs to go / Benji is too inconsistent / Benji's one good game does not excuse his 4 bad ones in 2017, 2018, 2019...

I am also sure I mentioned Moses is not a captain once or twice.

All I really want is new leadership and some vets with legit footy IQ.

I am not even religious...but even I'd almost pray for someone like Michael Crocker, JWH and Wade Graham.

Good luck getting a big name signing here. Last one was Tuqiri. Only option is youth at this point

Still a long way to go until the roster is fixed. Most of the signings Madge has made have been quite good. Guess we will have to see if Madge is the man but that will require patience from the club and the fans. Like I said no coach is fixing this club in a short period of time, it’ll take any coach a good 3+ years to fix the mess we are in.

100% agree. Yeah it’s the same every year and yeah I went through every year at high school without a single finals appearance, with renewed hope every year. But the coach isn’t the problem in my opinion

Jennings say hi ?
Also playing Doohey at the back when blind Freddy can see he ain’t a fullback

Madge extended Brooks who’s useless

Gave Lawrence another year who’s useless ..

Gives momirovski another 2 years who’s useless

Gives a total Gronk the captaincy who’s useless

The list goes on ...
Even Taylorball was more effective than this crap !

Well whats your answer Tiger Steve? Sack Maguire for who? Green? Payton? Griffin? Do you really think one of these would make a difference with our overpaid plodders? You're kidding yourself. The facts are we have a below par squad thanks mainly to Cleary paying overs for has-beens. We will never attract a marquee signing anytime soon.

We have to look to the future of our juniors and pray a couple thrive at a similar time. I'm happy to keep Madge here and over see this and no-one else.

Look at the players that have moved clubs since Madge arrived Ese'se, Fifita, Green are they better than what we have? Are we not chasing or are players not coming.

While Hartigan may have time to fix the roster based on players that may be good in 3 years, I don't think Madge has that luxury.

Wonder what the relationship between these 2 is like and who is pulling the strings? Is Madge being overruled? Could that be why he is looking for the exit?

I can’t take you seriously if you think Taylor is a better option than Madge.

Jennings was a good signing at the time who didn’t work out, not every signing will, you expect the coach to be perfect? Doueihi may not be a permanent fullback but is our best option at the moment. When brooks was resigned he was back to back player of the year. Momirovski is a solid player. Can’t agree with re-signing Lawrence and the Mbye captaincy might not seem right to us but Madge has his reasons.

Look at the bigger picture mate. Madge is working towards slowly building us into a good club which is the only option, and I’m pretty sure the club will stick by him. Impossible to expect instant results

Big question is can he do it over a full season, big different. Not every assistant can make the step up to head coach but I’m interested to see how he goes. Cowboys would be a good job for any coach they don’t need that much work, it’s a good roster they just need a freshen up

Still too early in his Payten's tenure to dump a premiership winning coach for him. It would be madness. Craig Bellamy would even struggle with pour current lineup.

Madge could lose all remaining games it won’t matter. It’s a rebuild whichever way you look at it.
A finals appearance won’t make a difference we won’t challenge any top sides even if we were perfect and scraped into 8th. We need to build from the ground up. We will suck until 2022 for sure and certain.

I agree. Gonna be a slow process.

I don’t think Madge is the problem but I can’t be sure he’s the solution either. Have to wait and see, either way gonna be a long 18 months I think.

Would need an outstanding off season recruitment drive to turn us around for next season. Need some good halves a good winger and another top line prop/second rower

There's one player that nobody seems to mention, he seems like a bit of a forum favourite and I've never really been sold on him and I think it's about time someone called him out and that someone may as well by me, so here goes...............

Aloiai

This guy has enough NRL experience now and has been at the club long enough to become a leader of our pack when we desperately need one but he just isn't and I don't think he'll ever be.
The opportunity for him to become one is there and has been there for a while now, but I just don't think he's got it in him.

I've reserved judgement on Josh and waited for him to become a regular starter which he has become but now I feel I've seen enough of him to know that he's not a top line footballer.

He's not our biggest problem but I can't see us doing much better if he's a part of our future starting pack, sorry

Couple of our boys see him as a leader They’ve mentioned it in articles and whatnot. He’s been good for us this year. Has his lazy moments but is overall a pretty good prop in my eyes. If we sign better he will be great as an impact prop off the bench.

Non of the players we’ve mentioned will take us to the big dance ...
Madge is pissing into the wind and he knows it !
We have Brooks until 2023
Mbye until 2022
So what does he do with them ??

He can’t even get them to do the basics right ...
Tackle
Line speed
Kick chase

There's one player that nobody seems to mention, he seems like a bit of a forum favourite and I've never really been sold on him and I think it's about time someone called him out and that someone may as well by me, so here goes...............

He was good up until the Eels game. Since then, he's been complete garbage. Back to his old rubbish of butter fingers and getting monstered by opposition props.

If he's our leader we have bigger issues than I thought.
